Market Day - Sat. Sept. 26

Today dawned gray, drizzly, chilly with more of same predicted all day -- 70% chance of rain. But I had ten loaves of bread to sell and was willing to give it a try. I had planned to make cinnamon buns last night, but my gut feeling said "don't do it, you are going to come home with a lot of bread."

But......I sold out again before 11:30 -- if you count trading Chicken Lady a loaf of bread for a dozen eggs! Again I had repeat customers buying 2 loaves and one young man that I didn't recognize drove up in his truck, got out, walked over and bought a loaf of sourdough, got back in his truck and drove away. He never even looked at any of the other 5 vendors.

This week I made Country French Baguettes, the Amish Wheat, 100% Whole Wheat, and Sourdough -- no rolls this week. A good week when I sell out of everything!

Excuse me, but I need to go make bread....I have none in my house.

Good for you Teresa!

I hope you will also be able to find a good big water resistant umbrella for your stand on days like that when the weather is a bit dodgy.

Great that you now have repeat customers and new ones driving up just to buy from you!

Hi folks! Granny!!!!! Of course you count!!!!! I'll take pictures of the Mail Pouch "barn" and other stuff so Lee can show you on his computer. Beverly hasn't even seen them yet! I broke my little finger and am waiting to see the hand specialist to be sure I didn't damage any tendons or ligaments. I hope not. This nine fingered typing is for the birds! I keep trying to use the splinted finger and typing really weird stuff! I also pulled the muscles of my chest badly enough that they thought that I might have a broken rib. Sheesh! I'm still going to find a way to pot up those last few plants! There is NO WAY I'll let if spoil my once in a lifetime trip with the boys. We're going snorkeling, para sailing, catamaran sailing, swimming with the dolphins and even some time for just laying on the beach! No heavy lifting for me until after the cruise! I'm overwhelmed with all the stuff I need to do in the next two weeks so I'd better go make another list and start checking things off! Barbi, was that you who wanted the baby arborvitae? I'll save them for you. I did dig up the campion that seeded itself in my stone path before I hurt myself. (*again*) They are a nice biennial. Mine are white but Beverly has some rose ones so who knows what color the seeds the bees made! I have Solomon's seal that needs dividing and some salvia that seeded into my stone path too. The candy tuft jumped the path but it might have to wait 'til fall. I can't wait to see Betty and Ron all the way from Michigan. I keep killing my forget-me-nots! Wonder what I'm doing to them? I hope everyone is doing well and my penchant for injuring myself is not "catching"! ~~Mimi

Hi Diane,I was wondering if getting there at around 11:30 but at least before noon would be too late to come?My friend Sue won't be able to make it She is due to become a Grandmother for the first time any time now and is afraid to venture off.So I have another friend Jacquie who is coming with me and she doesn't get off till late early morning and we won't get on the road till around 9:30am or so and it's a good hour and half or better from here. So will I be too late? I sure hope not.Hope to see you all soon.

Mimi, Loved the pictures,Your very good at posting and taking pictures. Didn't know my hair was so grey till I saw my picture.I didn't even recognize me.LOL I will have to tame it down a bit. Mimi and Beverly you two took a great picture together.And Beverly you have such an Angelic face and the pictures taken of you captures that. Hi goils! Gosh--how great to see all of the posts!!! :):) Tikanas-- great questions! It's been a looong time since we've done this, so here goes: 1) My interests/hobbies are: reading, HERE, junk rooting, auctions (whodathunk??), crossstitch, and I love my hairy 24 pound cat! :) 2) Well, I am an accountant by degree, but I have recently had the good forture to become a fulltime auctioneer, which I just love! 3) No kids, unless you count the hairball and hubby! LOL! 4) I am 41, and feel like 17 most days! :):):) I've been posting here since late '98, and these are the greatest ladies! I've had the pleasure to meet BJ, KYSusieQ and Zig, and they are all just as lovelt in person as they are here. :) And I just bought an old battered copy of the 5 Little Peppers several weeks ago--and sat down and read it--talk about memories! :) Lynn--((((hugs))) and treats to Simon--my 24 pounder wasn't quite that big at a year, so your purrball is going toi be huge-- :):) Things have gotten interesting here--I've told you all about my first auction that is coming up on 9/12--well the %@#$%!! that has the real estate option is acting like a $%@#%!! and is threating to sue my @ss. I'm not sure just exactly why, since I am just selling the personal property of the lady's. I suspect he knows he has a shadey deal, and now, he is threating the old lady as well. I'd like to...well.... I don't know what to do--Raeanne--any ideas? Gotta go--tomorrow's a long day--we're working a flea market over the weekend and Monday, so it will be a busy one for me! Yea, AGAIN! You are doing great. No bread in the house~that's funny. Bill looks a little forlorn when everything I bake goes out the door.

It is James Dean Festival weekend here. There was no farmer's market. I had planned to make cinnamon rolls and sell them in front of the house as it is on the main drag between the park and the downtown. Rain dampened my enthusiasm, too. My only baking was orders for the B&B. We loved Ann T's danish! I'll be making that next week for the market.

My goal this week is to see if I can make 12 loaves of bread instead of just 10. If I can increase my output a little then I will increase my income from this small extra income scheme!

Usually I make bread on Thursday and Friday evenings after work and try to put one recipe of dough in the fridge on Wed. night. The Country French loaves were rather big, so maybe I can get three out of the recipe instead of just 2. Plus, that recipe is really -- I mean really -- inexpensive to make.

Chicken Lady said she could pick up more 25# bags of flour for me as it is near her daughters school! Otherwise I would have a very difficult time getting away from work to travel to get more flour. She knows I would do what I could to help her.

Yay for you! We went to one farmers market all the way across town this afternoon. What a shame to see most of the foods and products were brought in by truck loads. Didn't see any locally grown locally made items. I just bought a bunch of dill weeds but that was also from BC, not Alberta.

Good job, Teresa. I know how fabulous your bread recipes are...I make lots of them: Struan, Country French Loaf, your pizza dough, your focaccia...thanks to your expert bread baking and teaching, I have become a bread maker...never as good as you, of course, but we do enjoy my bread.
