Best kitchen cabinet WEBSITES.

I've been shopping for new kitchen cabinets, and am frustrated with several websites - tiny photos, no click-to-enlarge, no easy scrolling, limited palettes shown. You have to click a photo, click back to the gallery, click a new photo, etc, instead of clicking a "next picture" button. I'm especially annoyed with photos of dark-finished kitchens at 300 px square with no zoom - I can't even see where the doors ARE, much less what they look like!

With that in mind, I compiled a list of the best kitchen cabinet WEBSITES - the ones I've found will give you that hair-fine zoom on a molding detail, a great color palette (monitor disclaimer here), a close-up of that interesting foot treatment, or good galleries of great room layouts. I'm not rating them by price point or product quality, but by their window shopping creds and their powers of idea generation. (Cuisines Laurier is pretty darn expensive, for example, but I'm not wild about their website.)

The crown jewel, the best so far, the ultimate drool site with the easiest navigation, IMHO. Click a gallery image and it pops up a full-screen slideshow of gorgeous woodwork.

A Conestoga dealer. Great navigation through door styles to help me pick the one(s) that appeal most. More technical explanations of reverse cove panel raises than I can possibly absorb.

Lovely products, nice galleries with easy navigation. A little slow to load is the only drawback.

I am in middle of an entire house down to the studs reno. I spent a lot of time on http://www.google.com/prdhp?hl=en&tab=wf doing research on prices. I went with the best prices, sometimes could not find any feedback and sat anxious until things arrived. In the end, I furnished a 2.5 bath, 2 sink kitchen for less than half of the local plumbing supply 'discounted' prices and ended up with higher end items. Here are the best places I've found: dealyard.com - if you can find what you want, the prices are just plain unbelievable on high end products, in a few cases, I paid 10% of list for discontinued styles of high end European items. we ordered seven faucets, one shower set, one shower/bath set, one roman bath set from here all arrived in perfect condition. was in three separate boxes, fed ex, the company only had signature required on one of the three boxes, so two boxes were left outside our home one day, and the third box needed signature - all three should have needed signature - weird glitch. Would suggest calling the company after placing order to make sure they require signature - I didn't do this. faucetdirect.com - ordered jacuzzi air tub and kohler cast iron bath tub. prices were the best for these items. they were shipped separately. it was snowing the day the kohler arrived and the ups driver said that dropping the tub to the curb was not included in the delivery, so the contractor plus plumber actually lifted it themselves. customer service said it was not their fault, UPS said it was not their fault, either way, I did pay for curbside delivery and did not get it, I would suggest when ordering large items like this to talk to the company ahead of time, which I did not do. homeproductstogo.com - ordered three toto toilets. no problems. really nice local delivery company was used who insisted on helping us take the items into our home - I did not pay for white glove service, and got it anyway overstock.com - kitchen sinks. no problems. Online sites we used- Overstock.com IraWoods.com eFaucets.com wayfair.com ebay.com For your toilets, tubs, sinks, faucets, etc. I definitely recommend going to your local kitchen/bath/plumbing showrooms and inquire about what they may have in the back or in a bargain bin. Sometimes you will have to listen to a spiel about the great deals they have out front and ask again about closeouts or things that were ordered wrong, overstocks, etc that they may have in the back before they get the message that you know those pieces exist and you are only interested in those items. We got a top of the line Kohler tub with all the bells and whistles that was a floor model for 10% of retail (yes, 10% so we got a 90% discount). Our kitchen sink was 50% off, our bathroom sinks were purchased for 5-10% of retail (some were 5% and the others were 10%--so a 90-95% discount) & our custom shower fixture setup was 55% off. These deals were all gotten in the showrooms with no haggling at all. The only item that was discounted because it was discontinued was the shower fixture setup, everything else is still current and available today at full retail. Don't forget to check your area Habitat for Humanity Restores too. CEFreeman on the kitchen forums has found some totally awesome deals on brand new current style items in her local store that she posts for everyone to see. Hope this helps!

Emmie you might like to have a look at this book by Dave Huss. I have this one in my collection of digital photography books. I think you would be very happy with it as he takes you through the fundamentals in a manner which is easy to read and understand. I see he also has another book that looks like it would be suitable, although I'm not familiar with it. I'll put that link here at the bottom. There are many good books for beginners available and if you do a Google search, you'll also find websites with tutorials for using a digital camera. Good Luck. I read the comments here and viewed some of the links, well, I do agree that you can do the flooring without raising the cabinets. The real negative here is that if you raise the floor too much, it makes it impossible to get appliances out for repair or replacement. You might have the space under the cabinet, or maybe get a dishwasher that is slightly shorter. Either way if you’re doing a floating floor like it seems you are it should be OK. Another consideration, as if you don’t have enough decisions. Lol is to use a vinyl floor with a wood finish. Pretty much the same thickness as the linoleum you have currently but it should solve all of your problems. They sell it at the home stores and I’m sure the same place/ price as you are looking at the other wood floor. They are really nice looking, I actually like it better than the hardwood. It seems to be a lot more durable in my opinion :-)

I forgot - Fieldstone has a good site too. I like the diagrams of the door profiles; sometimes it's hard to look at a flat image and tell if it's curved or raised or whatever.

Ayr may or may not have a great website but I am convinced they are the best or one of the best cabinetmakers. Do you like Loves2cook4six's cabinets? The fabulous toekick drawers? Persnickety cabinetry. Ayr Cabinet or Cabinetry out of Nappanee Indiana do fabulous work. They have a nice website but I don't think their website is their best marketing tool. Their work is definitely the best showing of their quality. A meeting with Ken Miller is a superb way to showcase the quality of their work. And customers such as me and Loves2cook4six, by word of mouth, tell you just how superior these Amish Cabmakers are.

@westsider40: I am in the early stages of shopping for cabinets and still trying to nail down what I like. So many details make a fine cabinet - such as toekick drawers, dovetails, inset, fine finishes - but the only things I have to *look* at are pictures in magazines or the cabinet displays at my local big box. That's why I compiled, for myself, the list of cabinet websites that educated my eye and let me pinpoint construction details that I wanted to reproduce in person.

After I get my style nailed down, I'll be searching for recommendations as to quality. :-) Unfortunately my tastes are Crown Point and my budget is Conestoga.

Being in HotLanta, you'd think I had more options available. While there are fine cabinet shops around, most are open 9-5, M-F, and 10-2 on Saturday. I work full-time and the list of places I have to go that are only open 10-2 on Saturday stretches out a month of Sundays.

try ccworks.com ....Ideal Home uk.com [go to their kitchen gallery-in decorating I think]-very good for compact designs and others. Merillat and Kraft Maid are not bad.
Of course, Christopher Peacock kitchens and William Ohs kitchens...
