Nightstand and lamp suggestions?

Hi All,

Over the summer, we bought this bed. We didn't buy nightstands at the time because this bedroom doesn't have the space for it. But we're moving to our new house in March and I'm at a loss. I don't want to be matchy-matchy, but I don't know if off-white nightstands would work or not. Or if they should be dark walnut like the bed. And then lamps? Would I want something rather tall because of the headboard height? The second pic is of our new bedroom's wall color. Anyone want to help me shop? TIA!

Thanks! I don't know how to size the pictures like that. It is easier to look at that way.

The duvet color reads true. In the smaller version of the new bedroom pic, the color is reading way grayer than IRL. The color of the new room is a grayed down bluish green... that description probably doesn't help a bit! But on my monitor, the true color of the new bedroom shows in the big pic.

OMG - what a goofball I am. I have been working so many hours and am so short on sleep - sorry I didn't include the link for the lamp. It would center over the bed, so the art would move. It is a bit on the modern side, but I think might be very cool in your space: giclee retro lamp You can see that they have the shade for sale alone, as well as other styles of the lamp with the shade at the bottom of the page. I like how it picks up your colors, including the taupe/beige squares that echo your bedding and window treatments. Do look at their selection of lamps. Many have free shipping, and they have tons of plug-in wall lamps that don't have to be hardwired to work. Seeing your floor plan, I would be inclined to flip the bed to the opposite wall, and let the dresser be on the wall by the closets. Seems like you could put the dresser a bit to the left on that wall, and still fit in a nice chair in the corner near the window. Thanks for moving the pillow! LOL

This was over our bed until a week ago. I made it before we acquired our sweet, little brown dog (who now sleeps with us) and it is a huge ordeal to keep it dust and fur free. I was also getting a little tired of all of the gathers & trim. The painting will stay and since I still like the fabric, I'll be re-doing the drapes on either side of the bed from "puddling" rod pockets to floor-length pinch pleats.

amieekim, I would love an overhead light. However, it would be very costly and a lot of work to put in since they would have to drill through joists to run wiring (not to mention all the holes in then ceiling!). I already checked for the living room (wanted a ceiling fan/light). That's why I was thinking of the upward light that worked off the remote. I could either keep the remote on the nightstand or mount it on the wall by the light switch and not have to walk over to turn it on/off. I might be putting a chair by it and get one that also had a reading light attached.

Thanks for the comments everyone! So I think I’m leaning towards white or charcoal, and floating. I’ll probably end up making them with my father. Unfortunately I’m past the point where I could easily add pendants, so I think I’ll have to just go with taller lamps. As for the wardrobe, doors are certainly coming — that’s what I meant by the “high-gloss white doors” in my original post :) I got most of them hung today, but there’s still more custom work to do on the wardrobe :) Thanks!

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm wondering where you found the duvet--I have been looking and looking for something in just those colors.

FWIW, I wouldn't do off-white nightstands. My instinct would be to go with the dark walnut, but I probably tend too much toward the matchy-matchy. Would it work to go with a wood somewhat lighter than the headboard? That wouldn't match, but wouldn't contrast as much as the off-white.

Have fun choosing, anyway.

The duvet cover is Pottery Barn's "Marie Floral". I bought it brand new off of ebay. PB isn't making it anymore, so ebay's probably your best bet!

I would do an iron nightstand to make it a bit less heavy. Maybe a glass top if that is not too much of a PITB or a wood top (dark).

Would it be too late to consider sconces on the wall next to the headboard?

I'm hitting myself on my forehead right now saying, "Now, why didn't I think of that?" Yes, yes, yes! An iron nightstand would be perfect. The glass part I'm not sure about. Why would it be a PITB? Because of fingerprints? I love the look of the one you linked, and with the weight of the bed itself, it would be nice to keep the nightstands a little airy.

I wanted sconces put it, but DH hated the idea of committing to where the bed would be with hardwired sconces because our new room will allow two ways to place the bed. But, I may still look into sconces that get plugged in now that you mention it. I had given up on the idea altogether, but I guess they don't have to be hardwired. Thanks! What a wealth of knowledge is here. :-)
