Annie, what a beautiful bounty! You have been working very hard - and it shows! Can I come shop in your pantry? I promise my check won't bounce:-) What kind of apples did you pick for the Apple Butter? I had roasted chestnuts in Italy, they sold them on the street in Rome, and they were good (I'd had them before as a child), but kind of mealy. I think they need some extra embellishment, like some peanut butter and chocolate for starters......

Annie, looks like you've been very busy. They all look really great. I like to make my spaghetti with home canned tomatoes, too....there's a big difference isn't there. Do you can the potatoes?

Annie it all looks so good, I certainly can see how busy you have been. I need to decide if I need more tomatoes canned this year or not, I may be able to slide... But I have my Annie's Salsa!

I also need to sit down with the calendar and decide when to make kraut....thanks to you.

Beautiful tomatoes! That is a lot of sauce. I feel your pain. I still have to peel, cut and freeze my apples. Don't know what I am going to do with the bountiful crop of Brussel sprouts since I am the only one that likes them. BTW I love roasted chestnuts over an open fire (in the fireplace)! Use to have them every Christmas.

Friend called yesterday trying to get rid of the last of his tomatoes-- thought I'd like them for canning-- I gritted my teeth & said "no ,thx but I'm done canning for the year" .

All I'm going to do is a few jars of chunky applesauce-- not even doing pear mincemeat or applebutter-- have a few jars left from last year .

Never had chestnuts? I love chestnuts. Used to get really nice roasted chestnuts from the street vendor's in NYC, don't know if they still sell chestnuts, but the smell of them was such a nice familiar smell, those roasted chestnuts! Sounds good with the honey and the cayenne. I've never had them any way but roasted! YUM!

What, has Elery moved in? Hee-hee. My girlfriend got Italian chestnuts from the Korean market yesterday and split a bag with me. They're tasty. All chestnuts aren't equal - some are tastier than others. Sometimes you get a batch that just taste like potato! A neat trick to eating them - cut in half and use a grapefruit spoon to get the meat out.

Annie you've done it again! What an amazing bounty of produce and I'm sure you will get every last tomato into a jar for your winter supply. I really don't know how you manage to always do so many things, and do them so well!

Like Donna I remember the chestnut braziers on the street corners of Rome and that was many years ago but I know I liked them. They were also sold in the streets in the Balearic Islands when I lived in Mallorca. They were so good and hot on a cold crispy day.

Wow Annie! No moss grows under your feet! I didn't have a great year for tomatoes. However, I am still canning sauce from ones I put in the freezer early on. I stumbled on your apple chutney recipe a while back and thats on my list of things to make. I never did play with my butternut squashes last weekend, but the g0od thing about butternuts is they will wait!

The chestnuts sound like they'd be great with that glaze.

Why, Gina, living in sin? Me? Oh no, you know I wouldn't. LOL Besides, it would be a 3 hour commute for either of us to move in with the other, so we take turns driving back and forth.

Sharon, I certainly plan to get every darned one of those tomatoes into a jar somehow, after all the planting and weeding and watering!

Diane, there are still tomatoes in the garden, if you really want some. (grin) As far as I'm concerned, that's where they are staying too. I can give them away, if I pick them. No way am I picking any more for anyone else, if they want them, they pick them themselves!

It's the first time I had chestnuts and they sure are a lot of work. I'll take Gina's suggestion about the grapefruit spoon next time. As Donna mentioned, they are kind of "mealy" and didn't taste like I'd expected, plus I thought they'd be more crunchy, like filberts or something. The jury is still out on whether I think they're good enough to pick/remove outer covering/score/roast/shell any more.
