Gardening and canning...

I know, I've not been around so much. I've been canning, gardening and trying (with no luck at all) to get the *&^& DSL to work. Sigh.

Still, I've gotten lots of tomatoes:

Some are plain canned tomatoes for this winter's chili and spaghetti, but some became salsa:

These are still waiting for me, I'm thinking maybe just ONE more batch of salsa.....

I picked the apples and made apple butter:

Just yesterday I picked some butternut squash and dug the Red Pontiac potatoes. This year they were huge, some I used last weekend in the corned beef hash for the Michigan Run, but these are waiting in the garage to become something:

Just because it's that time of year, Elery and I went to the Pick Your Own Chestnut place and picked these. I've never had chestnuts before and to me, they taste kind of like winter squash. Odd...

We ate a few as is and glazed some with honey, cinnamon and cayenne pepper. I'm trying hard not to think of Nat King Cole singing "Chestnuts Roasting On an Open Fire.
