Our Drop In Company....Really!

Our friends Jim and Kathy called at 10:30 to invite us to Lunch with them.

So, we drove 6 miles to our little Rural Airport to great them. Jim always brings another Pilot along in the event of some unforseen something or another. God forbid!

We were going to fly to another destination to eat lunch, but decided to eat at the famous Schobels Restaurant here. By the time we ate the weather turned a little scarey and they flew back home.

So, we didn't get to go up with them today. We are planning a trip to Mustang Island in the coming weeks though. I haven't been in a Private Plane since I was 13.

Things are going quite well in our house/greenhouse. WeÂre glad itÂs been a cool summer here in the North East. WeÂre able to keep the greenhouse temps only about 10 degrees above the outside temp. Cabin stays cool Â just like any other house, you close your windows/curtains in the morning. Plants seem to be thriving (blossom end rot on tomatoes Â weÂve read this common on trellised plants). Bit of an aphid problem (on the hard shelled gourds), maybe IÂll try oak leaves. Now we just let the daddy long legs do their thing Âgood way to spot bug problems (look for the "good bugs" as well as the bad). Trees are doing their job Â filtered shade through the morning hours, then starts again around 2:00 p.m. If itÂs a sunny day, we mist and water down the floor (gravel) mid-day. We wrestle with the divide between trying to grow most of our food (a noble, yet lofty goal) and using the space as living space. Next year more space will be allotted for veggie production, but the ping pong table has got to stay. More work to be done (isnÂt there always?) Â automatic watering, permanent planting beds, replacing the fountain with a small pond and waterfalls. WeÂve just finished splitting 5 cords of wood for this winter and weÂre already thinking ahead about how to best subdivide the space for overwintering (our aim is to keep the temp at a minimum of 45). For all the African Cichlids I have had over the years, I am really down to mainly Clown Loach, Silver Dollars, and various catfish/Pleco's. This tank was once an active Malawi colony of hundreds of fish, with a few Tangyanika. I really like the Compressiceps family of fish also. For awhile it seemed like they were all breeding like crazy.. When I quit selling/trading to a local aquarium shop, I cut way back on my aquariums.. This tank was also a C. Frontosa colony, with the Burundi type, and even some Zaire Blue for awhile. I am tempted to go back to Malawi Cichlids, they are so active and colorful.

Rosewitch, England was definitely one of my favorite places I have ever visited. My folks took me there when I was 14, and I remember bits and pieces the Crown jewels, walking amongst the Stonehenge stones (roped off now, vandalism), Stratford upon Avon. Time for me to take my own 14YO. Im trying to think how I can get over there for a whole summer, LOL. Dlynn, I could have worked so much more. I didnt really look at night time stuff and there was loads to do. Greece: cant help you, but shoot Yasou a line, she went a few years ago. LOL Annie! Teresa, well go together. I wanted to explore more cooking and food shops/stores but didnt get to. Terri, here is more a link to Pictures of England, a website pointed out to me by Denise. I started it on Bourton on the Water, where we stayed for a few days. Thanks Sharon, I was actually thinking how can I even come close to posting her quality of travel guides, I dont do the pictures she does LOL. We might have sat at the same table in the Cheshire Cheeses dining room! Sawdust still there, but we didnt make it to the cellar. I missed a lot of the British Museum. It has changed.check out the new atrium. I couldnt keep up with DH and DS16. Afternoons, when I planned museums, I crashed. Next time! Pam, lots of people did more than we did per day! Theater every night, more attractions, I cant imagine. Gina heh heh yeah I need another vacation like a hole in my head. Speaking of whichDH has another week off in August. Nooooooooo! Kathleen, DH says he took an average of 200 pictures a day. Yup. Me, I just buy the post cards or Google the images, same thing (DARFC from the photo bugs here) Cathy, thanks for giving me the War and Peace moniker heh heh. Next time I go with CF friends! Jim flys the plane himself, but feels safer with his Pilot coming along. So would I.

At lunch he told us a story of how he feel asleep at a stop light one day. LOL!

I wish I would have had the pilot take the picture so I could have been in it. What a dummie!

My son's GP's and biological father, both had planes. Four seaters, back then.
Remember once we even flew our dog with us!

My Dad and his brothers used to do "Circus" flying stunts....

Me...I've never been in a plane...by choice...

My boss owns his own plane...a 4 seater. We have done alot of flying with him. One Saturday, he called and asked if we wanted to fly up and see Dean's mom (300 miles)...so, we took her out for lunch! Dean has flown alot more than I have with him...I am not a fan of small places. Just last summer they flew up for the day when his mother sold her house as he had to sign papers. My boss will get a hinkling for a good pie and flies to a town that is about 3 hours from us...just to buy a couple of pies! lol He can think of alot of excuses just to fly. Although with the price of fuel right now....he isn't flying as much. :(

I love flying in a small aircraft. I figure if something goes wrong we can always land on the freeway or golf course. LOL. My friend has a plane and she lets me fly it. I am good in right and left, but I seem to forget about up and down. 3 dimensions is weird.
My friend's cousin flew in the Thunderbirds. Boy, I'd like to go up in one of those.

"Jim and Kathy"? Do you happen to live in northern Arkansas? I have friends, Jim and Kathy, there and I believe he flies. Wouldn't it be great if they were the same couple?

How many does his plane seat? My FIL has a 2 seater SuperCub plane. You sit in back of the pilot. He would love to fly all the time, but the weather can change so quickly! And fuel is $$$!

Jim is a Texan and so is Kathy. They have been together since their Teen Years. Main Man has known them all of his life.

Jim also, owns a Jet, but he uses that for his business in St Croix. I really wanna go in that baby. And when I do....you guys are definately getting pictures.

We call those quick short trips for food "going for a $50 hamburger." Of course with the price of fuel now, we probably should call them $100 dollar hamburgers LOL. Any excuse will do to go up, even a few times around the flight pattern or a few touch downs.

I miss our plane...it was sooo nice to be bop around in...don't miss the expense of owning one...that's my older son standing in the door of the plane...so ours has been gone for a long while!

Cessna 414 or 421, would need to see the front to tell.
Another fine aircraft. Very expensive.
I would miss it dearly.

Great plane Liz. That's a beauty. I can't even imagine the expense of one. And they say horses are expensive. LOL

This is our friend Oscar with his T-34. He flew formation at air shows with it. He just sold it last year. He turned 75 and I guess he thought it was time to unload the planes. He also sold his 210 Cessna this past year too. I did get to fly in it once, practically sitting in his wife's lap. I don't fly well. About the time I was loosening up and trying to enjoy the flight, we landed. I'm sure my friend, Karen, was glad to get the feeling back in her hand from me squeezing it. LOL
