Saturday Market update

Yesterday was a slow day at the market, not just for me, everyone said so. I sold all but 3 bags of rolls and one bag of focaccia that I gave to my friend the Chicken Lady. I did have a repeat customer that bought two loaves and another that bought 2 bags of rolls. A co-worker from my office was there with his DW and precious 2 yr. old daughter. He seemed pleased so see me and bought a bag of rolls, but what he really wanted was something sweet.

I still have people asking for sourdough bread so this morning I am experimenting with one of my best tasting recipes to see how I can fit the rising time to suit my schedule. Don't know if the addition of a small amount of yeast will effect the flavor, but I have to try as w/o it the rising is 6-8 hours each in the bowl and in the pan. Each time I saw a bag of my competitor's bread go by, I was more convinced to offer my sourdough. And....the sourdough is very cost effective with a larger profit for me!

A small disaster: I had samples of my spicy focaccia (crushed red pepper flakes) for tasting and one of my most loyal customers had a crumb go down the wrong way and had to run to get her water bottle. I was worried that she might reconsider her purchase but she assured me that the bread was not the culprit but only that it went down the wrong way. I wrote "spicy" on the label just to warn people and cautioned them before I offered the sample. Maybe next time I will leave out the heat.

Yesterday I met the town mayor, and some other vendors -- all just very nice folks. I'm a fixture now and other vendors and customers recognize me. I also met a fellow quilter and we had a nice chat.

I like to offer something new each week along with the items that sell well. Gives me a change-up in the baking and planning and adds variety to my offerings.

That's it for this week's update.
