I got my second eye done

This morning I had the cataract removed and a lens implanted in my left eye. Like the first procedure, on my right eye, it was easy and pain free. I couldn't believe how MUCH BETTER I see out of the right eye. I even drive without my glasses. Dottie

I am glad the procedure went well for you. I have the beginnings of cataracts on both eyes. I will gladly have them done as soon as my doctor says the time is right. I hope I don't have to wear glasses afterwards.

Smiling, Kristi! You give me renewed HOPE! I have one and only one order and each day goes by, I hope it will be THE day! My order consists of: Showmaster Ambiance Night Star Pink Floyd (2) Rio Negro Bogota Harlequin All are new to me except for Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd has a primary place in my hybridization efforts with Johnsonii as well as Amputo, Misty and Papilo. As Scarlet O'Hara says, maybe "Tomorrow"! Gosh! I do need to watch that movie again. I adore it. Being a Southern Bell, I guess I would, huh? I am such a Romantic. That's my major weakness as well as hippeastrum and all subtropicals!

I'm doing good for an 80 year old. Do not spend much time on garden web since the changes. I'm into African Violets now. I have two shelf units-5 shelves each. I do the RRs for leaves and have about 50 now. My hoya are outside on the patio under the roof. Get some rain when the wind blows. I've sore of neglected them. I love when they bloom though. We sit outside in the evening and the fragrance is beautiful. I wished they bloomed more often than once a year. I may bring some inside and put some of the smaller leaved ones on a shelf instead of the violets. I am on Facebook more than here on Gardenweb. I can't get used to all the changes. It was easier before because i had tabs for the hoya forum, african violet forum, and the cactus forum. Now I just go to African violets and only when we are active in a RR, which is now. Most of the violet people went to facebook. Such is the times, changing, changing. Good to see you are still with the hoya. Keep up the great work.

I second what mizscarlett said. PTSD or even TSD is a very real thing that happens to many people, not just soldiers. Arcy- I understand why you wrote what you did, it is the common stance of the general public to abused and battered persons; I used to feel much the same. BUT....unless you have lived through it yourself and had the same crushing emotions, guilt, worthlessness and self loathing that these people have experienced from years of emotional abuse, you really are in no place to judge. It is easy to view as an outsider and say, "you should have just left", it is FAR more difficult to do when you've been, slowly over time, made to live in fear for your life and the lives of those you love or been made to believe that you are, in fact, worthless. The worst damage people like OPs husband do isn't physical, it's emotional and mental. Her mother was willing to pay for the divorce but she was so worried for her mother's safety from this lunatic that she was willing to endure additional abuse to keep her mother safe. You berating her for something she already regrets is simply blaming the victim and encourages other people to NOT come forward. Many people who are abused (not saying this is necessarily the OPs stance) state that their abuser is quite charming at first, a "catch". Slowly, over time the verbal and emotional abuse escalates but they still say, "s/he's so great, and they've never hurt me!". Then the first time comes and they are physically abused. They are so shocked that it happened and "it's never happened before" that they write it off. It happens again, a few months go by and it happens again...and again....and again. At this point it is happening at an alarming frequency but by this point, the battered person is so broken, so ashamed at not recognizing what was initially happening, that they stay silent. The victim blames themself. THEN, in worst case scenarios, they begin to actually believe what the abuser says. They believe they deserve this. They believe they messed up, believe they are worthless, believe they are at fault. Frankly, as much as I want to judge and blame someone for their past mistakes, I can NOT sit by and blame a battered person for their poor decisions regarding their abuser. It's not right and it's not fair. msgenie- you've been given some great advice already. The only thing I can add to it is that you've already given him power and control over 50 years of your life. He is gone now and you can finally live. Try to NOT let his ghost take any more of your life from you. You only get one life, one chance at this big game; make it count. Regret nothing, learn from it.

My lenses were over and above what my insurance would pay, too, in order to correct for severe astigmatism as well as my very serious myopia. My doctor was genius.....he corrected one eye just a wee bit less than perfect, which allows me to see near and far; I can read all but the tiniest print without readers and even apply my makeup! There is no way that I could be happier with the results. Even after two years, I still find myself groping for my glasses when I wake up in the morning, lol. The surgery was such a blessing for me. One thing that I had to deal with, especially for the first several months, was uncomfortable dryness. I was encouraged to use a gloppy gel at night, and a couple of different kinds of drops during the day. I still use lubricating drops a couple of times a day.

I hope all goes smoothly for you, Dottie. I truly can't imagine what it would be like to be able to see without glasses.

After a friend had her eye problems and was nearly totally blind for about two years it really becomes a miracle to be able to see again, and a real life-changing event.

Good for you Dottie my dear, I hope things go smoothly for you. Follow directions. Don't take any chances on compromising your gain.

Nice to see good things happen to GOOD people for a change!! :D

Oh, Dottie - isn't this surgery a miracle?!!! I wore glasses since 4th grade - now almost 60. I had the surgery in both eyes a year ago - goodbye glasses - my cataracts were so bad I had almost no sight in either eye, even with glasses. I was truely blessed! I now have perfect vision in both eyes. I am so happy yours went well!

Glad it went well. Don't forget to keep using those eye drops. I thought I'd never get finished putting those drops in Harry's eye (s).

Yea!!! I am so glad your surgeries went well and you are enjoying the beautiful sights again. I just have to say Dottie you are my heroine. I found out I had very bad cataracts on the 28 of Jan. I was frightened 1/2 unto death of the surgery. Then I saw your first post "One eye done." I got my fear under control, called a few places, talked to several people and got one of the top eye surgeons in the state (Luckily here in town) to see me. I had my first appointment on Feb 8th. The first surgery on the 10th then spent a very sweet Valentines weekend with the DH. LOL Second surgery is this Wednesday the 24th. All because you gave me the courage in that post. I can't wait to see the stars again clearly with both eyes. I have had a mild headache for most of the time since the 10th from the trying to get both eyes to focus but I wouldn't change a thing. The worst parts were the gooey stuff over night before surgery and the nearly 2 hrs of surgery prep. Drops, more drops, little later more drops and then more drops and some more drops. I think they started leaking out my ears. If we put all those before, during and after eye drops together we could float a raft. Thank you so much for all you did for me. "Heres lookin at you kid"

Liljunkr, your post made me feel soooooo good. I'm glad you getting this done. I'm giving you a pat on the back and a YOU GO GIRL!!! I'll still need glasses for close up like reading, but it was my distance vision that had me worried. I have to renew my drivers license in April, and was told it would have been border line weather I would pass the eye test. Dottie

it is just amazing isn't it? i had mine done on dec. 7th and dec. 14th, and it's the best thing i've ever done. i told my doctor he gave me the best Christmas gift i've ever received. it was amazing how easy and painless the surgeries were, and i am walking around with no glasses at all.
simply a miracle.

the only difference my mom found was she had to use sunglasses when driving...and when she lived in las vegas the were a fixture, lol...she loved not depending on glasses ...

Dottie and Lil -- It's great to hear how much good these surgeries have done you both. I guess if one lives long enough, cataracts are pretty likely. Isn't it *wonderful* we can be 'fixed'!

Does anyone know if this procedure can be repeated if necessary? Is this the same procedure used to correct poor vision (with the cataract removal added)?

I thought my world was ending when I arrived in eighth grade with braces and glasses. (Ah, vanity!) I still have awful teeth, but it would be nice to dispense with glasses!
