I have very broad tolerances (enjoyment actually) in terms of fruit flavor but you can have Muntingia, at least if the several bushes I tried over the years were typical.

Mlang: Agree with the others that Northstar is an excellent Morello, and widely available from both net and mailorder sources. It may be a little late to be ordering now. Growing fruit means looking down the road a little. Your requirement that a tree hold fruit in its 2nd year may be difficult to meet. You cannot look sternly at a fruit tree and order it to produce. Cherry trees normally do not set and hold fruit until at least year 3, and often not until year 4. Fruit trees are not radishes. You wait. But the sooner you plant, the shorter the wait. Or did you mean to say Gisela 5? That's what I just got from Raintree. I couldn't find another source of Gisela 5 on the internet anywhere, and I looked pretty hard. Raintree's got it.... but be warned, you're going to have to pay good money to get it.

I have read that in this instance that people can do two grafts. The native variety being the most hardy and strongest rooting, then a short intermediary piece which can bridge between the native and fruiting varieties. Can anyone assist? Or know someone who can? I have cut down a large native cherry and would like to graft lapins and stella to the sprouts which are sure to come up this spring. "example taken from plum/almond stone fruit grafting" - " Also (and this is where the fun starts) most fruit trees in the Prunus genus are sometimes compatible with each other: almonds, apricots, nectarines, peaches, and plums all are compatible for grafting, but occasionally it's complicated. For example, some plum rootstock is not compatible with peaches or nectarines; and some almonds require an intermediate step before grafting onto some plum rootstocks."
