That appears to be a forage-type Tall Fescue (TF). Note: This is different than modified types of TF known as Turf Type Tall Fescue (TTTF) which have thinner blades and blend well into other grass types like Kentucky Blue Grass. TF is considered a weed in residential lawns because it's undesirable due to not blending in well with other turf grass. You will either have to dig it out (which can be hard given the deep roots), or use chemical means. If there are a lot of clumps, like in the image in the original post on this thread then chemical means would be the way to go. Tall Fescue is a grass, so regular weed killers that are safe for lawns wont work. You will need to use a weed & grass killer that contains Glyphosate. Home Depot has a good 41% glyphosate concentrate, there is no reason to spend more on a name brand like RoundUp, they contain the exact same stuff. Buy a 1 gallon spray can and spot spray. Be aware that Glyphosate will kill EVERYTHING so be very careful and follow the instructions on the label. TF can be hard to kill (again because of the deep roots) you might need to spray twice about a week or week and a half after the first application. Good luck! My roses have good drainage also, but we have had so much rain for the past month that the roses are suffering from too much water--lots of yellow leaves appearing. So I think that may be part of your problem. I'm hoping a week or two of sun coming up here will be the "cure." I'm not sure how true-to-life the color of the canes in your picture is, but to me, it looks like you have canker/freeze damage on some--maybe a lot--of the canes. Did you have that big Easter Freeze like we did? I had to prune a number of my roses back to a few inches from the ground as a result. (Good news--healthy growth has been appearing.) On some of those brown canes, prune back a bit and see if the cane has clear white pith in the center. If not, keep pruning back (yes, most of the cane, in some cases) until you see the good white pith. That means you have arrived at the healthy portion of the cane and future growth from the healthy part will also be healthy. Those are my two best suggestions. There are actually two types of fairy lilies... Habranthus and Zephyranthes. One of them has blooms that face up, and the other has blooms that face downward, though I can never remember which is which. There are several varieties of each... and they come in a delicious assortment of color shades! For a taste, go to Ebay and do a search in the Garden section for Habranthus and Zephyranthes... you'll see everything from pink with a burgundy eye, to yellows and whites in different shades... a very beautiful little bulb! I grow mine in a pot on my east window sill, and I treat them like my Hippeastrum. I'm certain to allow them to dry out in between waterings, and they seem to grow leaves all winter long but remain rather dormant in the bloom department... at some point over summer, they begin growing scapes a few days following a decent watering, like they would outdoors if it rained. The flowers don't last very long, but the bulbs bloom intermittently all summer and into fall. I love these little guys! I've got several in a clay pot, and they've grown a few babies since I got them. It took about a year for them to bloom after I first potted them, so I think perhaps they need to settle in for a bit before they take to flowering regularly. I highly recommend them for pot culture in the north! They are tender, so they must be brought indoors for winter, just like Hippeastrum bulbs. I must thank Cindee again for these beauties! I don't think he was scamming us, he really wanted to do us a favor. There were some extras (I had started to type a post but deleted it when he came b/c I was also writing that he hadn't shown up today as promised. There was about $180 for leveling the joists (he said he could tell before he ripped the old vinyl off but I thought it was just the vinyl), and after he pointed out that there *was* such a thing as inside corner and the builder used J channel instead, I checked out the back corner of the garage under the downspout, found the builder used his only piece there, so bought material and CIL spent a couple of hours pulling vinyl off the house and installing that, reinstalling vinyl, when he had only planned on pulling top couple feet of the garage to put the beam in. $20 here and there adds up, but there seemed to be a lot of "wasted" time too on his cell phone, getting ready each day, cleaning up (would have gone quicker if he had just worked 6-8 hr days instead of 3-5 hrs) and we did have a couple of cases of "measure once, cut twice" where at least the first cut was something he could recover from. Also a lot of "adjusting" after he got sections up, even after leveling the joists the carrying beam was sagging in the middle of the porch (he said due to sonotubes sinking) so to avoid the bowed appearance he had to lower the ends and not go strictly off measurements from the wooden beam. That was necessary, I wouldn't want to accentuate the problem, he's really trying to do a good job but he doesn't always think things out ahead of time, measure *everything* and draw it out like John does. John will even make prototypes or cardboard templates, etc (on the clock of course). But even with all the unforseen things (he was telling me the other day why remodels start at $180/sf compared to $125 for new construction) I we really are running short on $ and patience, I just want to finish this up. I only mentioned the project overruns in the first post b/c while the "nominal" $100 damage "retainer" might seem like a big thing to them, he's also making more than twice what he expected off this project so maybe it wouldn't have been such a big deal? I was torn b/t wanting to make him take the consequences of his actions (esp. since I specially told him not to do what he did, to stop) and wanting to cut him a break b/c things are tough for them right now. Not to mention we have haying to do ;-) Moot point now, since there is a lot more going on with that branch of the family than I knew, this is piddly stuff.
