What goes in the hutch and how wide is the walkway in front of it? Are the oven and microwave a stack or is there counter there? I'm asking, because I'd like to see the cooktop offset from the sink, and, especially, the dishwasher.

While you're making dinner are people going to come streaming through the mudroom and squeeze past you as you work, between sink and stove, to go up to the bedrooms? Some of the aisles look a little tight for the traffic and activity they might receive.

Have you shared before about the number and ages of people in your family, and the kind of activities that go on around your home?

Okay, here is some elaboration/answers to your q's:
Re the hutch: I have a ton of decorative serving pieces that I use a lot - so I envision those in the top part of the hutch behind glass, and in cabinets below would be other oven pieces that I occasionally use. As drawn the walkway in front is a little more than 3 feet, but I think they're going to try to shift everything down a little to make that a bit wider.
The oven stack is an the electrolux icon wall oven with the high speed oven above it (also acts as a microwave as I understand it). How might you suggest offseting the cooktop? I think they are working with some venting issues so moving DW might be easier. I am used to having the DW to the right of the sink but I could change habits! Also in the island will be the pull out trash/recycling.
As far as traffic flow in from the Mud room, if people want to get to the bedrooms, I am hoping they will go through the music room. That may take some getting used to also. I picture most times flow will come in from the mudroom to the family room/island stool area.
Here's our family sitn: 6 and 10 yr old boys who will probably drop their school stuff and make a beeline for the backyard (through the breakfast room).

Remember they won't always be 6 and 10, and will eventually making beelines to their own 'lairs,' -after grabbing something out of the fridge. ;-)

If the oven had been undercounter with the micro in the uppers, I would've wanted to shift the cooktop down that direction to offset things. If your dish storage is by the fridge, I wouldn't move the dishwasher. In your last plan you had a 4 ft aisle, but now it looks to be 42"?

Non kitchen related observations that are probably none of my business, but just throwing them out for you to consider and either think about or ignore ;-):

-You don't mind if the music room serves as a hallway? And, as I've said, I'm afraid that it won't be the path most likely chosen, and in house designing you have to really be practical about the likely movements of the family unless you want 'retraining' to be a long-term practice...But you know your family and yourself best for that one.

-That's a long way from the back door running to the powder room with wet, muddy shoes or boots? Or they'll drop them off by the bfast table?

Great observations, rhome410 - thanks so much. I think the aisle between the sink and cooktop was reduced to 42" to make the powder and mud rooms a bit bigger. I think we have enough clearance on the stool side of the island to shift the island toward the family room another 6". Great catch.
What do you think about moving the Refrig toward the island more (eg, centered on that right hand section of counter)?
Also great question sbout mud/traffic from backyard to powder room. Right now everyone accesses the backyard from a door by the proposed pantry. I imagine that door will still be used (in addition to the access from the new breakfast room). As far as the traffic through the music room...currently there's a lot of traffic through it and it seems fine. The label 'music room' makes it seem a little more precious than it is. It was a small dining room when we moved in, so it's now the room where the digital piano is and overall doesn't get used a whole lot!
Keep the ideas,questions,tweaks coming! The first layout I posted generated A LOT of concern so I am relieved that there don't seem to be big problems with this...

Have you thought about shifting the ovens to the pantry wall? That would mean you could center your cooktop on that cabinet run really making it a focal point and then you'd have a lot more counter space on the refg side of the cooktop. I love the floorplan...

My first thought was to shrink that 6' in the powder room and gain it in the kitchen. Then I began to wonder about changing that mud room/powder room portion of the plan altogether to change the flow in that area.

Does anyone have thoughts on centering the cooktop and the refrig in their current cabinet runs? eg cooktop centered btwn wallovens and other edge; and fridge moved down more toward the family room? Thanks

I probably would center the cooktop between the ovens and wall...It would get you clear of conflict with the open dw.

Centering the fridge would get it out of the doorway, which is a plus, but it might what I think is nice dish storage and the counter too much. After you move the cooktop, you only have two larger stretches of counter...left of the sink and by the fridge, and I think I'd try to keep them. Does the counter wrap around the corner to the breakfast room, where it says 'bar' or will that be separated somehow from the counter by the fridge?

Yes, I had been thinking that the counter would wrap around to the breakfast room. It says 'bar' because there will be an undercounter bar refig there and bar-glassware, but there will be space for lots of other things that I haven't quite determined yet (placemats, napkins - maybe some dishes?...). Good point about the long stretches of counter. To the left of the sink we'll have trash/recycling pull outs, so that limits the undercounter space there.

Great point about the powder room's distance from the mudhall. My powder room is a direct shot across from the mudhall and I have never regretted that. I don't know where you live, but "snowday emergencies" or for that matter outdoor/garage work etc. "emergencies" might be something to consider. It looks like you could easily open this powder room plan up to the mudhall just by changing the door to the mudhall side so it might be a good thing to consider. Also, I didn't see your original posts, but could you move the fridge to the pantry area and then move the message center next to the fridge? This could cut down on the amount of activity concentrated in that area. Don't know if the message center means desk, but this might be a good placement--over near fridge-- for a desk area because it would be more open to the family room. You could then have your pantry area in the present fridge/message center area. Another option might be to split that area and use some of it for a pantry and some of it oriented toward the mudhall depending on how/if you change that room.

Just took another look at your overall plan and am wondering if that wall between the breakfast area and family room is solid? If so, and if you need it for support, could you do a half wall/ column combination or some sort of stand alone column there to open it up more to the family room?
