A Valentine's Day Wedding, with a twist

In fact, this wedding had several twists to it.

The time of the wedding was 12 noon. It was held in the Social Hall of the church, not the Sanctuary. Tables were set up on both sides of the room, with white tablecloths, programs and flowers on each.

The bride and groom are in their mid-sixties, she widowed for five years; he, never married.

The ceremony followed traditional lines, with the song "Valentine" sung by a friend and "Love Song" by another friend. The vows, the rings, the memorial candle, and "The Lord's Prayer" sung by a pastor, followed by the Benediction, completed the ceremony.

What made this wedding so different, other than it being held in the hall, not the Sanctuary, is that both the bride and groom have health problems.

As the Pastor, groom, best man, etc. stood at the front waiting, we could see the groom's portable oxygen tank, although he wasn't using it. Just a precaution.

The Matron of honor, flower girl and ring bearer came in. When "Here Comes the Bride" started, she made her entrance, walked down to the front, pushing her wheeled walker-with-the seat . She had a bridal bouquet in one hand as she also held on to the walker. At the front, she deftly twirled the walker around and sat down on the seat, where she stayed until time for the Kiss the Bride. She stood and it was a meaningful hug and kiss. And she sat back down.

Then the guests were invited to a long table where a plentiful catered lunch was served, followed by the cutting of the cake.

The couple is leaving today for a 5-day cruise, walker and oxygen tank included.

Is that gutsy, or what?

BTW, did I mention that they met online, even though they lived maybe 15 miles apart!

Bon Voyage!!
