My Valentine's Day Table

I couldn't believe my luck when I found this set of dishes at the TS ! There was a complete service for 8..incl.all the cups for $4.88 !!! This pattern is called the Rose Garden and it's from Tabletops Unlimited. I just love them and since I found them 4 days before Valentine's day..well..it must have been fate. I'm having a blast with this..I've got to hurry up and get moved and get all my "stuff" out of storage so I'll have more tablescaping things to work with.

I can't believe the price you got on those dishes! They definitely are a 'treasure find'.
And again, your table is lovely. Two done so fast...just amazes me. LOL.

Did I know you were moving? With my major memory problems, this seems news to me. I do remember Oreo!

Susan, your table is beautiful and I love your new dishes. I am so happy that you found the dishes at such a great price. Nothing says LOVE like a rose.

Looks like you had a blast creating this table. All the candy, petals and decorations look grat. Your napkins rings are wonderful.

My new job is closer to the $Tree, so I've become an addict, but I've found out the more often you go the more likely you are to find the good stuff. I bought a whole new set of bright striped plates and wine glasses last week, I'll try to post pix. Sorry, I'm late getting back here. Glad you all appreciated that I joined in the fun of decorating for Valentine's. I got the plates last year at Target, sure would love to find some cute little heart shaped salad plates. The puffed hearts are from Michael's, came in a bag of four or six I think, got them last year too. The Happy Valentine's sign on the hutch came from Big Lots. I thought I had some chocolate in cute candy wrappers to put on the table but couldn't find them--wonder who DID find them????? LOL If you like cherubs, check your Dollar Tree. My local one had some really nice sized ones that were very cute. I almost bought a couple but then talked myself out of it. Thanks for looking. Luvs

Propagating roses is as easy as chopping off a piece & sticking them in the ground. It's even easier to bend a branch to the ground, lay a rock on it so it maintains contact with the ground, and forget about it for a while. (Ground layering.) The potato thing is a fun and interesting trick desperate pioneers tried to keep their cuttings from drying out while traveling by covered wagon, and sometimes they took root along the way. It is not the easiest or most reliable way to propagate roses, unless they need to travel in a covered wagon for a few weeks first. The legacy and determined spirit of these gardeners of the past to bring the plants they loved with them is worth passing on! (Correctly.) Not in the sensational way this "advice" has gone viral over the past 18 mos over Facebook & Pinterest. It's hard to beat Kalanchoes for easy-to-get-along-with house plants that bloom profusely, if you're looking for more candidates for your awesome collection.

Milosmom..I think I would love pink and green even without it being Valentine's day.. it's just such a happy combination of colors it makes me want to smile :>)

This table was actually done for my sisters and I. We try to get together at least once a month and have lunch and have done so for quite some time. My cop son,Jason, calls it the "twisted sisters crunch and munch session" lol ! My mom started all this when we were very young. When my sisters and I would get mad and wouldn't speak to each other,she made a "tea-party" for us. We had to act civilized and "play nice". We had so much fun that it was impossible to stay angry with each other and we continued this tradition on up through our high school years. When my sister Jeannie and I left home the tea-parties kind of dwindled away. She and I had gotten mad at each other about a year later and hadn't spoken for a week.I got a phone call from my mom telling me she needed me at the house..that it was important.I was painting my living room and had paint on my clothes.. in my hair,etc. but when mom called and said to get home,we didn't ask questions..we just went. I pulled up in my parents yard and then Jeannie pulls up behind me. The first thought I had was "crap..what's she doing here. We walked in the house..not speaking to each other..and yelled for mom ( she hated it when we did that..lol ).She called us into the dining room and lo and behold..there's our other 3 younger sisters and our tea party ! You know the drill..act civilized and play nice ..sigh..Well,we've been speaking ever since and the tea parties have continued..with the exception of several years when my job was taking me from the East Coast to the West Coast and I couldn't get home very much.And I can still hear my mom at our lunches..act civilized and play nice..I miss her so much, God rest her soul.

Susan..I can't believe the price for those dishes.
They are ABSOLUTELY Beautiful and your table looks just lovely.
I can see those dishes used in so many different settings.
What fun they will be.
I too must say I loved reading about your mother, sisters and the 'Tea Parties'. What priceless memories. How lucky to have had such a clever mom to create this tradition for all of you and to teach you all to
'act civilized and "play nice" '. lol

Like the others, I too love hearing about your Mom and the tea parties. What a smart Mom, and what great memories she gave all of you. I bet she's smiling down on all of you and the continuing tradition.

Let me get this straight...Oreo is eating you out of house and home, so you are moving? LOL

As for your pretty pink and green, you can play with those colors a lot thru Easter and Spring. The shade of green on your napkins is so pretty, along with those glasses.

Wow! I really love your new rose plates--and what a great bargain too! The green of your napkin is just so perfect with those plates, just a perfect combination.

Your story brought tears to my eyes--how wonderful that you girls have continued the teas. Your Mom was very smart to give you all a tool for overcoming your disagreements and remaining close. Just wonderful!

Lovely dishes, and a tremendous price - I'd have snapped them up quickly too! Roses are wonderful for Valentine's but I know you will use them at many other times also to set a pretty table.

Thank all of you for your sweet comments :>). The thing I most love and appreciate about my mom is that she gave us all wings to fly and she raised all of us to be strong individuals who weren't afraid to try anything. I have a HUGE family .. 4 sisters and 5 brothers .. and she always let each and everyone of us know how much she loved us.Even after I moved out, if I wasen't feeling well,she'd tell me to come home,she'd take care of me.I used to love to sit in her lap in her old rocking chair and have her brush my hair when I didn't feel good and I still did that as an adult. I didn't find out until after she died that all my brothers and sisters went home to be rocked by mom if the were sick or upset .. lol ! I wonder why people don't rock their children anymore ? Mamas' laps are the safest place on Earth in a rocking chair.
Karen .. ROFL !! No, he hasent' eaten the house yet.. but I did find a board on my fence that looks as though he's chewing his way out to get to the house ..lol ! I also have his full brother. He was a year old Feb.12 and his name is Almost A Valentine and he was foaled on my place and both of them are constantly into mischief. I guess it's a good thing though. I lost my 27 yr. old mare Jan.4 and that was kind of devastating, so these 2 characters keep my mind off losing Lady.

What a fantastic family your Mom raised, she sure sounded special too.

I'm so sorry about the loss of Lady, know that's been tough on you. She lived to a grand old age for you!
I'd love to see photos of Oreo again, and Valentine. Do you have them in an album or can email me some?
