labeling in my sewing/craft room

In my craft room, I have five drawers. Two are the sterilite plastic kind from Target. Three are in a small wooden chest of drawers. I'd like to use the same kind of label on all five but what can I use that is not permanent? Stick-on kind would work for the plastic but not for the chest. Might the kinds of metal looking raised letters you use with scrapbooking work (I'm not a scrapbooker)?

I just don't want to damage the finish on the chest should I rearrange the drawers.

I think you run the risk of damaging the chest. However you may try using the tacky blue stuff. We used to hang posters on our walls with that stuff. Break a little piece of tacky off and it should hold your labels on and I don't think that'd mess up your chest. Then the labels could be the same...just stuck on differently.

Since it's my sewing/craft room, it can be a little funky right? The room's walls are neutral but teal is the accent throughouut. What if I found some of that tacky stuff in a fun color and pressed it - in some freeform shapes - into the fronts of each drawer. Then I could press letters indicating the contents on the front of the drawer. Wonder if the tacky stuff would dry out?

I am quite sure that the specs OTT builds their lights for for Joanns and other big box stores are different than the specs they use for lighting stores and independent stores. I have an OTT light floor lamp purchased from Eunice Farmer Fabrics in St Louis several years ago that performs very well, except for a design flaw that makes the frame fragile at the extension rod - and OTT has replaced this for me twice, once when I broke it by putting too much tension on it, once when my son did the same thing. The light is good and the lamp is attractive. (They discontinued the design a long time ago). At the time I was working at that store, (my post retirement "fun job") and a shipment came in that OTT immediately recalled saying that wasn't supposed to be our stock, that it was meant for Joanns and was built to a different spec to sell at a different price point. I recently bought a tabletop OTT light from a big box store and I have to say the quality is far inferior. The casing material is cheap and the screw that holds the lamp part up horizontal to the table constantly comes loose and the light part sags. I look forward to seeing what other lighting might be suggested, as I too am going to be in the market for some sewing lighting when our new build is finished.

maybe a halogen PAR reflector bulb with a narrower beam spread (spot instead of flood) if you aim them carefully, although it may yield an unevenly lit room. I have a few Cree CR6 (a.k.a. Ecosmart ECO-575L if you're at Home Depot) modules in a similar setup as yours, which are intended to be used for recessed lighting in ceilings but I've found work great in track lights and such as well because the built-in trim kit bezel helps shield the light and they wind up looking like this: For $10 you can add one of three colors of anodyzed trim pieces for the baffle if you don't like white, like the bronze one here, to further reduce glare: (I suppose you can chop off the three rotating tabs that are intended to hold the module in place when placed in a generic 6" diameter recessed can if you find their appearance distracting).

I have a large office type desk for my sewing machine.it has 5 drawers in it,then across the room i have a conference table that DH made leg extensions for so it would be counter height.I do a lot of sewing and quilting as well. If money and space was no object,i'd like to have one of the larger size kitchen islands in the center of my floor for cutting,and i'd like it to have lots of drawers underneath for storage.I would keep my machine as is,as it is in front of a large window that looks out over my gardens. When i want to do other work at my desk,i just shove my machine to the back of the desk.I also have my serger set up on my cutting table at one end,and i did this so that i would have to get up to use it,and that way i'm not continually sitting.I always stand up to serge.Of course my iron board is at the other end of the room. I plan to redo my room in the next few months,and have already started weeding it out.But unfortunately i still won't be able to afford the counter.Oh well,i'll survive,at least i have a designated room for my sewing and crafts. kathi

This is definitely an eating-the-elephant-one-bite-at-a-time situation with the paperwork. I've found it helps to just grab one file and go to another room- then you are only dealing with that one stack of papers and not looking at all the rest. I bet when you get started, you will find that you know pretty quickly what things to toss and what things to keep. Another tactic I've heard is to imagine what it will look like when it is all done. That's suppose to motivate you to get it done :^) More and more I have applied that Marie Kondo theory about keeping like things together. It does help especially with craft supplies. Just grouping stuff that goes together all together has eliminated a lot of unneeded duplicates. I've also found that sometimes when I get all the supplies for a particular craft together, it was very uninspiring and the whole lot goes to donation. The one craft I still enjoy above all others is sewing and in particular, sewing scrap style quilts. That means I have a lot of smaller pieces of fabric to get organized. Right now they are grouped with like fabrics, folded and put in gallon ziploc bags. Then those bags are all in a large, opaque rubbermaid tub. I've been going back and forth lately with the idea of moving them all to clear under bed style boxes (that will still fit in the closet) which would give better organization and easier access to them. Still don't know if I will eventually do that, but I wouldn't do that with all my craft supplies, only the ones that most interest me. Once you identify that, then they aren't clutter, they are something to organize. I also keep a couple of drawers of rather disorganized craft supplies- these I have little interest in and am keeping them for DD in case she has some interest in crafting with them. When she has outgrown them, out they will go, but until then they aren't worth the time to organize, only to hide away. You can do it. It might not happen overnight, but it can happen!

It may dry out on top but it would still be tacky umderneath. I stuck some on the corners of a painting frame 10 years ago to keep it from going crooked. It is still tacky and easy to roll off. However I was only using a bit of the stuff. I don't know what would happen if you use a lot.

I don't think it comes in funky colors. I've only seen it in blue or white.

I would check into scrapbooking supplies at the dollar store to use to make your labels and bristol board to glue your design on to. There are interesting frames letters and stick on's there. Then you could use juat a bit of the ticky-tacky to hold them on to the chest.

The blue stuff will leave a greasy dark spot on some things- I wouldn't trust it on something that you don't want ruined.

May I suggest a double sided acid-free tape, non permanent type, found with artist/photo supplies. Sorry I can't direct you to a specific supplier, we used it when I worked at a framing shop.

I just thought of a solution where you won't have to tape on the drawer front at all and would be colorful. Use a wide ribbon. Tape one end just over the lip of the drawer front on the inside of the drawer. Tape the other end just under the bottom lip. Then you can glue on letters or staple or pin on cards or mark with a permanent marker. Measure the ribbon and decide what you want to do. Do your glueing or pinning and especially use the permanent marker. Let everything dry and then tape it on
