Is this a good price for birdseed/Do you prefer birdseed mixes?
Comments (15)I buy most of my birdseed at Tractor Supply for several reasons. First, I pass the store several times a week going here or there and can get in and out in a jiffy even if I stop to ooooh and ahhhhh at the baby chicks and ducklets for a couple minutes. Secondly, because of the rapid shelf turnover, I know the seed stocks are probably fresher than other places where the seed or seed mixes may have been sitting on the shelf or in a warehouse for months. Thirdly, I typically buy only BOSS seeds for the birds and a bag of shelled peanuts as a blue jay treat. As to suet cakes, I feed those only during the winter and make my own using what seed I have on hand, peanut pieces, lard, and chunky peanut better. Any mix with safflower or corn goes uneaten around here and even the squirrels ignore those bits that are tossed out of the feeder onto the ground. While I much prefer to buy seed at a real feed store, all our local feed stores have moved farther out or gone out of business here a bouts. Counting travel time, it quickly became more labor and dollar intensive to visit a feed store when quite honestly, I don't know that most backyard type birds can tell the difference or want to know where you got their vittles....See MoreHow to get a good price on a Bluestar RNB. Comments (17)Peke - did your $200 shipping include installation? I've been quoted $500 from our dealer for delivery (from their shop, 20 miles from us), assembly if required (we may be getting the tall backsplash with the shelf), and installation. Not hook-up - that has to be done by a gas pro, apparently. I reckon $500 is steep, but the dealer has no competition within 500 miles, unfortunately for us....See MoreGood Rug Deal? Should I get them?
Comments (6)LOL Sue! I should have prefaced the LR picture. That is an old, old picture from about 4yrs or so ago. The banana leaf table in that pic is in the basement. W/ more kids running around there just wasn't enough space for all of them and the coffee table (it's about 42" in diameter). Our current coffee table is this $2 find: And I have 3 trunks in the attic that I've used for a coffee table at various times. The one that I'm thinking of is a big old white tool chest that has great moulding on it. It was one of my first auction buys w/ my mom almost 20yrs ago. It would also be a great space to store throws and extra pillows if I chose to use that one. At any rate - last minute thought last night worked out great. I thought why not buy both and put them both in the LR for one large rug? There's no repeat pattern and I could quickly whipstitch the 2 together. DH was sweet enough to agree and went out and got the 2nd one for me (that was an ordeal when the store sold him the wrong rug - but he volunteered to go back and make sure that I got the right one - he's so sweet!). Looks great and I've ended up w/ a 10'x14' rug for $100. I tried to take some pictures w/ DH's camera this morning but his battery was dead too!!!!! Fingers crossed this wjnd. or tonight I will get pictures of the rug, the requested blackboard and th erequested pic of my after Christmas sale feather trees!...See MoreCraigslist: if you don't really know pricing, how do you decide?
Comments (15)It's what you feel is a good deal that counts when buying. Selling is a different issue, and it takes time. We sold vintage for years, and Ebay was the WORST resource EVER for uninformed buyers and sellers. What seems like a minor difference can be a major one when it comes to price (well, it looks *almost* like mine). Additionally, it seems that people assume everyone else listing the widget knows what they're doing, when they might just be flying blind too. The only good comparisions on Ebay are exactly the same as your item with BIDS-buy it nows and listings with 0 bids mean ziltch. And archived listings from more than even a few months ago might or might not be a good resource, as certain items ebb and flow like the tide (for a while, you couldn't touch a Duaflex camera, they were HOT for TTV photography, I think that's died down now-we don't sell vintage anymore-no space-so I haven't kept up on the trends). Then you've got sellers that inheritated something they were always told was "worth a lot of money". Well, maybe it was, once. And now...you can give it away, maybe (like those console radio/record players or sets of china, except certain patterns). Also, it depends on your location. We live in NYS. Where we live, I could sell something...say...an old wooden crate for $10, whereas it might sell for $30 in NYC. Vintage prices here are WAYY lower than there....See Moremclarke
