I don't know which model mine is, but it looks exactly like the one you're considering. It's great; I highly recommend it, especially if you have a place to store it when it's not in use. Bear in mind you'll have to keep the insert in the freezer, so that will take some room as well.

Wow, fast answer! But surely you don't mean that I have to keep the insert in the freezer all the time. Couldn't I put it in a day or so before I make ice cream?

I have that one too. We use it all the time - it is loud but that's the only down side at all. We love it!

I think that claire de luna or I don't always anticipate a day ahead of time when we will want ice cream, so it makes sense to just store the insert in the freezer for whenever the mood strikes you...:-) But sure, it doesn't have to be in there. It does take anywhere from 8 to 22 hours (I think) to be ready.

Just 10 days ago I bought a red 1 1/2 qt Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker thru Amazon.com. $48.65 no shipping, no tax, came thru in 3 days. I believe the white was $2 cheaper.

Have made 3 batches so far. First batch recipe was wrong,
then I switch to my 'old favorite' and the others has been
great. I keep the bowl in the freezer all the time, ready to go. I find on this 1 1/2 qt size five cups of mix is quite enough. As it freezes it expands. No mess with the ice and salt. We use a 30 minute time, it is soft set at this point, then put in the freezer to set up.

Perfect size for the two of us. I think a busy young family would need the 2 qt. size.

Lacey, you should know better than to ask this group if you should purchase an ice-cream maker! They are all enablers.

I have one too! And I found one for my cleaning lady--at a pawn shop, for heavens sake!

Of course you should buy an ice cream maker, geez. Remember who you're talking to! (grin)

I have one and don't use it a lot, but I do use it often enough to keep the insert in the freezer for those times The Princess and Bruvver come over and want some ice cream, it's ready to go.

Actually, I usually freeze some of my homemade yogurt with fruit or jam, they eat it up like it's really ice cream!

I bought a Cuisinart ice cream maker just a week after buying a Kitchenaid attachment maker, and I much prefer the KA. The Cuisinart is extremely loud, as noted above, and so I had to put it in the sewing room, since my kitchen has an open layout. (I hate open layouts for kitchens BTW - I want to be able to close doors! My old kitchen had very nice old pocket doors, which I much prefer.)

The KA holds 2 quarts, but the Cuisinart holds only 1-1/2 quarts, and I found that that is just a bit too small. The price is great, but just make sure that it can go into a closed off room of its own. I couldn't watch TV while mine was going in the kitchen.

The one I'm looking at makes 2 qts, according to the info. Loud could be a problem since I have a small house with an open floor plan. I live a long way from stores so I'm not going to be making ice cream on a whim--I'd need to plan ahead to get ingredients. And it's just me here--no active family. But I was thinking about having ice cream parties. Ya think my friends would mind?

BTW, if I wanted to make a couple of different types of ice cream for parties, I'd have to start several days in advance, right. Freeze the inset, make the first recipe. Freeze again, make the second. Is that right?

Yes, that's correct.

The thing about the noise: my Cuisinart ice cream maker (I have the 1-1/2 qt. model) makes some noise, but it processes the ice cream or sorbet in 30 minutes or less. You won't have to tolerate the 'noise' for long!
