I like the shape and size of it and the ottoman, Unless money is not an object I think before you decide you really should call and get estimates on the cost to have it reupholstered, I think you'll get big time sticker shock! it's NOT CHEAP. Unless you can do it yourself?

Pretty room! I think it would look nice in there. I had a similar chair and ottoman reupholstered a couple of years ago. I forget the exact amount but it was over $600 and that was using my fabric. I'm in SE PA.

Thanks rjinga; that's really the question here; whether it's worth reupholstering a good quality chair. I think the cost to upholster both pieces would be around $450, and I live in NC where good fabric is plentiful and cheap. I think I'm looking at $550-600 besides the cost of the chair. I haven't looked at new upholstery in awhile, so honestly don't know what the cost of a good chair would be. We get tons of wing chairs on CL but haven't seen too many with the ottoman, and that's what intrigues me. But the numbers have to make sense to make it worthwhile.

A Sherrill wing chair with ottoman, if I am not mistaken, would be a couple thousand dollars.

pal, wow, thank you. I've responded to the seller to take a look once I read your post. The numbers make sense in that case, so we'll see how it looks/sits IRL.

I would be cautious about buying upholstered items. (bedbugs and such)

Bedbugs? Since I'm planning to reupholster it, I didn't think that would be a problem. Hope I'm right, especially if the chair looks good IRL. I love to buy things used and reupholster them since living in NC there are so many great fabric sources here; you can get a high end fabric for a song and have a custom look for less.

I have two Sherrill club chairs that are about ten years old and still look like new. They are very comfortable and the quality is top notch. If the style works and they are in good shape I would snap them up.

I agree with the others -- Really Good furniture with classic lines (like that chair and ottoman) is worth investing in. If you're OK with the post-reupholster costs, then I'd say Grab It!

Ellendi, I'm right there with you. :) I'd only buy secondhand upholstered furniture if I were going to completely reupholster it - which I assume the OP is? It's a pretty chair, timeless lines.

Thanks all for your input. I'm going to see the chair on Sunday, and if it looks good, will offer $100. My guess is the sellers will jump on that as their ad says "must sell". I think it's a fair price assuming the chair is structurally sound.

I will be reupholstering it, so if I get it, that's the next step. I'm thinking of a velvet, or maybe chenille. I know I want something with good texture and feel. I may need some GW help with that. But, first things first.

brittone2, I had the curtains made a few years ago. I do love them. Country Curtains has a similar look but as I recall the checks are not as big. I found the fabric on FabricGuru.com. Buffalo checks are always in style if you like the look!

I saw the chair yesterday and my heart just wasn't in it.

I'm afraid it will be too big for the space. Height was good but I think I need something with less volume otherwise. I'm going to look for an armchair with space between the arms and seat; maybe a taller version of the chair I have.
