I say...get the half round hall table, both chests....do not paint....and the rounded mirror with the criss crosses. The antique mirror looks like it belongs above a dresser....it has side swivel holes in it...right?

nicole - thanks for weighing in. I don't know if that one mirror has swivel holes or not but I think you're right about it belonging in the bedroom. What do you think about me painting that other mirror red? I have a lot of Raspberry truffle left from the library.

i like the hallway table!....wonder if you should just find another place for the runner and get a smaller rug for just in front of the door???

The reason I was thinking about painting the mirror is because it's oak and it's the lighter oak that doesn't go well with any of the other things in the house. Maybe I could just try to darken it a bit?

I don't really want a secretary there. I really need a chest for all the table linens as I have no place to put them so they're staggered all over the house. Plus I'd like to have a flat top to decorate. :) But I might need to keep looking. Shoot. I dunno.

Yes, the roundtopped mirror looks very good. The one there now makes me feel I might walk right through the glass if I was not paying attention. It gives substance to the end of your hall.

I like the hall table. I think busybee3's idea of removing the long runner and using only a short one in front of the door would eliminate any off-center issues.

I don't think the stacked chest will look right turned in the corner as you propose. It seems to need some breathing room. Even if you don't want a secretary there, one of those secretary bottoms with a slant top lid (and no high glass-doored hutch above) would have at least two good drawers beneath it. It might even double as a writing desk which is very appropriate in a library.

If you go with something like the aforementioned piece, then you can without hesitation get the stacked chest for near the French doors. I think it will be more modular and fit in more places than the larger chest, which will basically put your chair totally in front of the French door. With the stacked chest, you might sort of keep one side of the chair paired with the chest and give more space to the passageway.

The oak mirror could use a darker, stained finish! No, don't paint it. Love it tho! Chests are a HOT decor item.....I hope they're still available...? Get shopping girl!!!!!! Those were both really nice! Be sure to tell us it you got it all.....

Well, even though everyone else seems to think otherwise, I think the mirror would look smashing painted in the Raspberry Truffle.

I like all the pieces, and think they look to be in good condition. Except for the big wood mirror with the framework, that looks newer and too modern to me. Kind of common. The half table I am not sure on value, depends on how old it is. It is not like you would never find something like it again, they are very common. When I can't decide, I ask myself how much I love something....the rule tends to be that if you really really love it, you will find a way to make it work.

As for painting, and hardware, those are small things that you can always change later. best to live with the stuff for a while first, see how it works for you.

I say definitely get the hall table and change the rug if you have to. Get the round top mirror and stain it darker. And get the taller of the two chests for the library space. The shorter, wider one I like for a bedroom or bathroom.

My entry rug is off center to accommodate my antique sideboard against one wall, much as you show in your photo. I doubt anyone notices.
I like both chests but you won't love the chest if it sticks out in the spot you need to fill. However, sometimes I buy something great from CL for a particular space--love the item when it comes home, but it doesn't really work where I wanted it. Then, I rearrange everything to accommodate the new purchase.

Okay, I only ended up getting the hall table out of this bunch but that's okay. I simply love it!

Now the question is, just generally right now because I can't find the camera to take pictures, where in the very small entry to put it.

If you page up to the top of the thread you can see the old table at bottom of the stairs. Right now I put the table there but then I wondered if I should scoot it down closer to the front door and just leave the space at the bottom of the stairs open?

(The big doorstop on the wall is going away this week.)

I went through all the foyer threads here I could find but most people have really large entries compared to mine.

Leave the table where it is, so that you are not fighting with switches, etc when you want to place a mirror or a lamp.

Lose the runner and get a round or octagonal rug for the entry, to make the space feel wider.
