How high is your ceiling? If you will have a 36" high vanity and allow 10" between the sink top and the mirror, the total height will be 98". You'll need at least 9 feet for the mirror not to look cramped.

Just from your inspiration picture there's a lot going on in that bathroom.

Ceiling height is 8 ft.

Hmmm, I measured from my standard height vanity and I was going to place it 4-5 inches above the counter like my current one is. 10 inches is just too high for me.

I'm short, and bending to get close to the mirror is easier with a lower vanity. Maybe split the difference on vanity height, which leaves 6 inches of room at the top. Hmmmm, again.

The mirror you have pictured is kind of a stylized Georgian mirror (English), with a broken arch pediment (that would be the 'horns') with applied, plastic molding at the top. Not Louis Philippe at all. See pic at bottom.

I think Victoria would say to go for it, you'll find a place if for it if you love it, even if you don't use it in the bathroom. Do you love it enough to adjust some of the other bathroom items/finishes to make it work better?

I do tend to like over scaled things. You know, one big piece that draws your attention. I can also clutter the heck out of a room and love it because everything makes me smile. sigh.

See, I thought my inspiration pic seemed pretty spare once you take away the accessories and that big, wonderful mirror would be a great focal point. I guess I need to work on my definition :)

I don't have a "style", so anything will work. My house is a nondescript ranch and my bedroom has elements of Asian, French, and English country with a rustic pine headboard I built. I can go a lot of directions.

Can you design folks please tell me what is busy about the bathroom? I am truly curious and want to learn this stuff. I would see it as a fairly neutral bathroom and like alex said a fancy mirror like that would be the focal point. Is it the herringbone on the floor? I guess that is the only thing I see as maybe "busy". I love the mirror by the way but I am a sucker for dentil molding.

That mirror is so gorgeous I would be pounding down the door to get it if I lived close enough. I have a pediment bed that I just love and your mirror reminds me of it! You see that I called it "your mirror"? Seriously Alex you just have to get it before it's too late!

I literally laughed myself silly over the Kingdom mirror episode when I read it several months ago. When I get home from work tonight I am going to take a glass of wine into the lr, curl up and re-read it!

Well, to me, the "busyness" of the inspiration photo is the distinctive pattern on the floor, plus the large number of drawers, all with multiple frame trim and large pulls. There is no plain plane of wood at all; it looks very busy to me, even though I love it. I personally would never use that floor (which looks so contemporary to me) in the large herringbone with that more traditional style vanity, which has an overall checkerboard pattern (not sure what to call it - lines of squares and rectangles). Then the marble shower tiles and the mosaic patterned shower floor add more elements. The colors do not seem to work together on my monitor, which increases the dissonance to my eye. Gold tones in the wood, pink tones in the floor and grey tones in the shower - but monitors are quirky and it may look different on yours.
