Digital recorders

When I was a child, my mother used to give many readings at different local gatherings. There were 2 childrens stories that she told a lot. I heard them many many times. I suspect that she likely practised on me. I told them to my kids and grandkids but they don't remember too much about them. I don't want to lose them and as I'm now 80 years old I have been giving this a lot of thought. I bought a digital recorder and tried to record them on there. Of course there are some errors, but that is understandable and forgiveable. My big problem is that there is a lot of static at the beginning and ending and in between the 2 stories, presumably from my handlong the recorder. Is there anyway to erase this without disturbing what follows or preceeds?

All suggesions appreciated.
