Well, the last hurrah of summer is almost over. Thanks to Earl, didnÂt plan on cooking up a storm.

Just BBQ ribs with mango sauce and finished up with a lime Jell-o with blue berries.

Hope you guys all had a good one.

Love the pictures of the lime jello with blueberries. I would never have thought of it...................it might have something to do witht he fact that when I was little we always went up north every weekend to the cabin. My older sister Mare would terrorized us with horror stories of lime jello! LOL

Thanks Don for sharing your insight and experience with me. I am prepared to prune like it is going out of style. My back yard is not very challenging to me right now with not much to do in it vegetatively. Even my garden I expanded this year had been very maintenance-free. I think I only pulled half a dozen weeds out since April. I've worked on creating a compact garden and a berry bed in the inside-side of the fence. My back yard is small and only extends about 24' back from the corner of the house. I fenced most of it in. I left some space on the outside of the east side where these trees are going. The soil is especially murderous on that side of the yard. I suspect when this house was constructed a little less than 3 years ago that the access road for the neighborhood construction was through that area. I notice contractor people here like to spread heaps of plentiful limestone rocks around construction sites for their machinery/keep mud down. It gets compacted and pressed down with that heavy equipment as houses are built. Then after a house is built it appears topsoil is added on top for sod, but it is never spread evenly. This explains why the west side of the yard is much easier to put shovel in than the east side. All my neighbors complain about their yards being the same way. Here's an example of what happened to all the rocks dug up in my back yard: I dug the final hole for that Mcintosh this evening and the soil was considerably easier to dig in. I had watered the spot where I wanted the tree a couple times this week and notice before doing that.. that the grass was more lush there. I can visually see where I will have a chore digging and where it will be relatively easy with not nearly as much shovel aerobics to pry out boulders and stones 'glued' into the ground. I hope these trees, as close as they are grow like wildfire because I want more privacy in my little yard. Notice in my picture the houses at the top of the picture... There's always people staring down at my wife and I from those balconies/roadway. We'd much rather they stare at fruit trees. I hope they grow 20' tall. ;) I will be sure to let you know how my Mcintosh grows (or dies). Last winter it was always colder on that side of the house. The path between the houses adjacent to mine act as a wind shaft to convect cold air along that area. Maybe that will be beneficial to the Mcintosh. Time will tell I guess. I will plant the Mcintosh probably tomorrow. I want to mix in some of that fertilized tree/shrub mix with our limely clay soil as I had for the two other trees. I could cram one more tree along the fence, but I have a white pine in the inside that should complete the blocked view (someday). I say I don't mind pruning now, but I may be saying different in 3-5 years eh? :)

Not a nice way for your day to start ! Sorry....and one mess always leads to another, with all that laundry, darn ! My husband wouldnt be of much help folding clothes either but he might be able to fix the pipes ? This must be why today is called Labor Day !! I agree with dotmom, he at least owes you a deluxe dinner at a fancy restaurant tonight !!!

Wouldn't it depend on your market? We interviewed 3 agents, countered with the one we liked the best to match the fee's and sales package of the one we liked the least. I was a little hesitant because she was not 'The" neighborhood seller, however I think she worked harder for us because of this. The agent selection was more to help us have a pleasant experience vs to really sell the house because we did not have a timeline to meet and because the location alone would sell the house. She did list early in the week and had an agents open house. In our area a lower price is to start a bidding war and some agents will discourage buyers from even looking at it because of this.

These are the ones you talk to face to face.
Guess it's payback, for all the things I've done.
They won't leave me be. It's terrible. LOL!

Anyway when I arrived , they had Kielbasi on the grill, ready to go.
Along with pieces of Cheese and Cheddar Cheese Crackers.

I thought that was it, so after a couple of beers, I'm thinking of leaving,
because I had a flood in my bath room, from a leaking pipe.

Then out came the Barbecued Pork TenderLoin, Macaroni Salad, Potato Salad and Coffee.

When we were done, here comes a Birthday Cake; with Sparklers shooting everywhere, for one of the crowd.

Naturally we had to toast him a Happy Birthday.

No Photo's, use your wildest imagination.

I moved our Labor Day family gathering to yesterday, Sunday, because today's high is supposed to be in the upper 60s (it was 40 when I woke up this morning at 8:30!).

We had appetizers & cocktails on the deck, then I had to ditch the plans for a deck dinner and move everyone indoors so they wouldn't freeze....It was quite cool last night. Unbelievable! No wonder my tomatoes just can't get going...The plant is filled with green tomatoes, but not a red one in sight. :(

I served any easy Labor Day dinner: barbecued ribs with lots of sauce, corn-on-the-cob and sliced tomatoes. Served with a great California Zin. Dessert was sour cream peach pie, which is an old family favorite. I plan to type up the recipe and post on the site so others can make this super pie while peaches are still in season.

It was a very simple dinner, but quite good. But, I'm just not ready for cool weather!

Thank you everyone.

Beth4, sorry to hear about your tomatoes. I am overwhelmed with tomatoes here in NY. Tomato salad, fried green tomatoes, tomato sauce, salsa, ketchup, sun dried tomatoes, tomato juice, tomato powder, baked tomatoes -------.

Lou. I donÂt normally use those holders. Ribs are best enjoyed using fingers. However, I do sit-down dinners when everyone is dressed up, that would be the only way you can serve ribs.

Sometimes I ask the guests to use their knives to take off the meat and save me the bones to make stock. With the holders, the bones would be untouched. Have you had BBQ rib bones for stock? Wonderful!
