Scored a big Goodwill find today. 50% off.

If your a goodwill club card holder they are doing 50% off a single item. We scored with a brand new Dyson Vacuum priced in the Goodwill store at $199, we got it today for $100.00. Walmart has it for $399.00. I love it. We have a Kirby alreay but I've wanted something upstairs so I don't have to drag mine up and down. I wasn't sold on them until today. I treated the carpets with baking soda and borax yesterday, vacuumed with the kirby last night and couldn't believe how much the Dyson picked up that my kirby didn't.

Wow, what a great deal. I have two dyson's and love them. It is almost embarrassing how much I pick up with them. Do you have Savers by you? I know there are two in Madison. They are having a half price sale on Feb. 21.

Gosh you got a fantastic deal. What color is it? Mine is purple and I bought it at Sears for $600 plus.

This year I went around to a couple hardware stores looking for late-season deals ... at a locally-owned store, bulbs were 75% off so I bought a bunch, and saw that they quickly sold out. At Home Depot, they were 25 percent off and later 50 percent off, but I figured I'd wait a few more days and see if the prices would go even lower because they still had such a huge inventory. Unfortunately I went back today and the store employee told me that they'd destroyed all their remaining bulb inventory to move in poinsettias and Christmas cactus! That's such a disappointment! At least donate them to the city park system or something! Meanwhile a local nursery was still only offering a 25% discount for bulbs that had been marked up much more to begin with, so who knows when those will get to something I'd consider reasonably priced. I figure getting a great deal is tradeoff for being willing to work in colder weather and not caring as much what the selection is; I'm not going to pay more than the catalogs charge this late in the year. Anybody aware of other local nurseries and suppliers that are still offering bulbs on clearance? I'm really annoyed that Home Depot would waste so many bulbs, but if anybody knows of other hardware stores that hang on for longer, I'm interested to know.

House sales are another good place. A friend of mine does appraisals and she knows I knit. She called to tell me about the sale, and said they had a lot of yarn....which, turned out to be an understatement! I went the next morning and they must have had 30 garbage bags full of yarn....and, each was $3.00 or 4.00. Luckily they had them divided up into like yarns, which was great. I left the synthetic ones(bought one for my neighbor who makes Xmas ornaments and pot holders) but bought for myself all the wools, mohair and cottons. I can't remember how many bags I bought, but it was probably 6 or so. Also included in the bags were sweaters, etc, that the lady had started and not finished....still on the needles. As they were wool, I was able to finish them, and block to fit me...all that most required was sewing up, and perhaps a front plaque and the neck finished...all things that didn't really require a pattern. One bag had the parts of a crocheted afghan.... 4 long stips that only required sewing together. The skirts I sewed up at one end, rounding off the corners, put on a strap 'handle', and then felted them....presto...a bag. I'll probably never have another windfall as good as this one was!

Thanks to all. Greenthumbfish, I saw that stencil at Hobby Lobby. I ended up passing on it because the repeat on the pattern was so small. I was afraid it might end up too busy. I wish they would have made a bigger stencil! Parma, I agree with you 100%. I think that day, my stiff upper lip was already starting to quiver b/c of the rest of the chaos I was having to be so strong about. Handling critique and suggestions (albeit harmless and trying to be helpful) that I had not solicited was just more than I could stand, especially when I thought I was pretty clear on the nature of the post. Again, it had nothing to do with the comments, and everything to do with the timing. Sometimes you just can't hear how you can be "better", especially when as you explained, "better" is so subjective to personal style. I will remember your words, though, and will make sure to laugh at myself as I count my accessories! Puna, I have to say I'm pretty dismayed as well. For the life of me, I can't figure out how removing those comments was necessary or helpful. (Yours and several others, including some of mine!) Ugh. LaFonda, yes, my stomach went into knots when the property manager called and said I needed to get over there immediately because water was "everywhere". I thought he was exaggerating. He wasn't. Ugh again. Joanie, I don't think I'll stop, but I think I may definitely change how I post photos. This post has served as very clear reminder of how some people think, and knowing I can't change that, all I can do is change how much of it I set myself up for. Patty, you got the whole point of the post; I was delighted to find something so pretty when I was going through something so horrid. Thanks for "getting it."

Fabulous find and beautiful chair! I went to the Goodwill Store with my daughter the other night to look for a tacky Christmas sweater. The only thing I saw that I was remotely interested in was what looked like to be a dime store print with a bad looking frame. The faux mat was printed on the paper with the scene, however, the scene and colors were beautiful! It was a large hunting scene. For $9.99, I debated getting it and having the print reframed. After thinking on it a bit, I decided that would cost too much to reframe, plus I had nowhere to hang it. I passed, but do plan to go back to the store in the future. Small store, though. OK, Since the title of this thread is "Scored an awesome win", I just have to share my win from last week. Hope you don't mind instead of my starting my own thread. Maybe others will chime in with their wins or bargains. I received a call from the Ellen DeGeneres Show last Thursday night. I won Day 5 of her Christmas Giveaways! Four prizes were really nice, and four were some items that we can't or will never use.

Its the yellow one. Not the roller ball but we are very pleased with it. Just what it saves me lugging the kirby up and down will be great. They have allot of them on the shopgoodwill auction but sometimes people bid too much and then throw the shipping in and its not always a great deal. this though, great deal.

Holy Crap!!!!
I never find any electronics, machines, etc of any use in our second hand shops. Nicole bought her Zo bread-maker in her Goodwill/second-hand store.

I've read where the Ball is hard to vacuum in a straight line.
I'd love to buy the canister. I think that one is neat.

You never know what deals you might find! I haven't been going to Goodwill as much lately and sometimes I wonder what I'm missing but I figure what I don't know won't bother me. I did stop in last week just to check if they had a pair of snowboots in Dan's size, thinking it a longshot at this time of year, but there they were. Only $3. The size was missing but they also had a pair one size smaller and I just compared them sole to sole.

Two thumbs up on your great find. I have always wanted a Dyson. Also the person who posted about the Ball Dyson was hard to vaccum in straight line, thanks for the info. That has been the one I have been looking at. That is good to know. I am now over the Ball Dyson, and will look some more at their other models.
