Should I paint my island and if so what color?
Comments (20)so the prefabs are pre cut in 9' (some are 6' or 8') lengths and kitchen counter depth...24" or so, I believe. they also have island sizes at 3x5 or 4x6' sizes, and the edges are simply finished. here's a close up of some,,, this is Python (click on the pick and you'll get to see the finished edge) they also have quartz (a little bit more. maybe 500 or so this was at a different stone yard and these are rounded edges. more quartz the fabricator brings them to the residence and cuts the holes for sinks or stove tops. some fabricators my come out and template your kitchen before hand if they have to cut for an L shape. Once at the home, they install them just like they would any other granite. just as an example, this was a kitchen we did for a rental about 7 years ago. the L shaped perimeter countertop and the island were all pre-fab granite. for the granite alone, I paid 700 or so? maybe less? i can't remember. and then had the guy come out and cut it to fit was another 1000 or so. so the granite for that entire kitchen came less than 1800 or so. it was very nice granite, nothing wrong w/it and the fabricator did a great job w/the cuts and the seaming. these are cheaper than slabs because they come pre-fabbed and are limited in types and colors. They still have plenty to choose from though. I live in SoCal so there are hundreds of stone yards and tile places around here. Depending on where you live, you may have this, or you may not....See MoreShould I paint island side to match doors or another color or tile?
Comments (25)You’ve got some structural design issues here. Time to drop back to the initial plan and fix a few things. You have to work with your material selection. This is trying to work outside those limitations, and doesn’t account for engineering for counter support or a few other things already noted. Post your plan....See MoreHelp! I want colour in my new house!
Comments (9)It's going to be tough to find a paint color that works with the floors, cabinets, trim, splash and granite. I think that is why the PO went with white. The different woods already chop up the space a bit, I wouldn't do different colors in different rooms. I would sample SW accessible beige, it often works well with warm and cool colors and doesn't look muddy. The other option is to keep the white and add color with rugs, pillows, art, chairs and decorative accessories....See MoreShould I paint my ceiling white? What color walls? New stove surround?
Comments (22)I think that painting the ceiling planks white is perfect for your beachhouse, it just needs to be accessorized correctly so that it doesn't look too white and gray (see illustrations below). For the walls, I suggest a light greige, BM Balboa Mist, that mixes well with white, gray, and wood. Or a neutral gray such as BM Gray Owl. Any paint you choose I highly recomment that you paint a large cardboard (available at Dollar stores) with 2 coats of paint (samples available at paint stores) and walk around the room to see the colour in different lights. For your corner fireplace, it looks like something black on the floor under the fireplace, not sure what it is but I would do a black porcelain tile under and on the sides of the base. You can also replace the spotlight on the ceiling by a more modern black one, Amazon has nice ones around $40. Have fun with your project!...See Moreherbflavor
