Help me decide placement of gadgets at sink

This is my first post. Like so many others I've been lurking a while, getting many ideas and so much helpful information during our build. This site has been a blessing... Now it's time to decide where to position all the "stuff" around the kitchen sink and I'm confused!

Details--Kohler smart divide undermount sink. The single hole pull-down faucet will be centered. I have to decide where to place the air switch for the disposal, soap dispenser, and instahot dispenser. I'd like to have the disposal in the right sink since I'll wash in left side and rinse in the right, so I guess the air switch should be on the right side as well. (Does that make sense?) The soap dispenser on the left side (not sure if I'll use it for dish soap or hand soap yet)? I'm stumped about best position for the instahot?

I know I can count on all you TKO people to give me good advice. TIA!

Personally, I prefer to have my garbage disposal un the sink I use to wash dishes. That way what comes off the dishes as I wash goes right down the disposal.

I would put soap and air switch behind the wash side of the sink and then put the instahot on the rinse side. I don't know the sink, but if the wash is on the left I would lay out like this:

[AS] [S] [F] [IH]
[---Wash---][-Rinse-]

That way the soap is convenient to washing, the air switch is toward the end (less protrusion, easy to reach). instahot as at other end where it's out of the way. And you could use it for a final hot rinse of dishes too.

That's Wonderful! You won't be disappointed! If you're going to order from online, you may want to check out Faucet Depot, their pricing was the most reasonable the last time I spoke to someone about these sinks. I ordered ours from Home & Stone last October and they were wonderful to work with as well. They packed it really securely, they shipped it really fast and they include the shipping charges into the price. Blanco makes a similar model for Home Depot, so if you want to see a sample of what the material feels like you can see them there. It's not 100% the same, lower grade, but at least you'll get the jest. They also carry Blanco Silgranit sinks at The Great Indoors. I was a little worried about having a black sink, but as it turns out, our granite is Verde Peacock and it sort of just disappears into the back ground. And it cleans sooo easy. Soap and water is all I use, and even though we have really hard water, water spots haven't been a problem. I have the double basin with the larger deeper one on one side. It's a perfect fit for our needs because the larger sink easily accomodates soup pots and large pans, but we still have a separate basin smaller basin with the garbage disposal in it to wash dishes off for the dishwasher. How nice, with the Santa Cecilia you have a couple of different options, Athracite or Cafe maybe, I bet even the silver would look nice. I've seen it with the Anthracite and it looks amazing but with the mocha glazing on your cabinets, you may want to go for the Cafe which IMHO has a very rich look to it. I know this is probably more info that you were bargaining for, but one last tidbit, be sure to check your box the minute you get it. There have been some people who's sink was damaged during shipping and if you don't check it within a couple of days, some places make it harder to exchange. Ok...so there you go! You'll have to let me know what you decide on, either way I'm sure it will look amazing! Good Luck!

Looks like the 60/40 proportions are reversed ... a matter of preference on which side you want the bigger bowl.

I think that a good hefty crown molding partway up in the atrium area (say to the base of the second floor) might be a good idea to give the eye a break as it goes up the walls. It would also help you however you when you are differentiating one area from another. Especially if you paint above the crown molding in another color, perhaps to match the upstairs hallway area. Rather then molding to differentiate areas you might want to consider paint. different colors for different 'rooms' to break the visual space up. Keeping it all the same color makes it *look* all connected. Say a very light yellow tint in a dimmer 'room', maybe a blue shade or tint in a room that should be more relaxed, etcetera. You could also use your furniture to provide separations so that one area dosen't blend into the next. Rugs (they can be rather inexpensive too) can define a space very well also. As an example: In your living area you could swap the hard wooden chairs for the sofa, put the softer chairs where the sofa was with the round glass top table between them, slide the small table with the glass bowl deeper into the bay window, and place the hard wooden chairs facing the soft chairs and tucked back against that curved staircase. (my thinking being you'll play up the bay window and have a nice backdrop for the bowl, the curved stairs will set off the curve in the wood chairs, and the couch will provide a visual break from the next room.) You could pick out a color you especially like in the couch or rug and paint the walls there that color or a similar shade. From everything I've been reading molding is excellent for setting a sense of formality. I don't know that it would have enough weight to really set one area as different then another though. Hope this helps. I know it isn't quite what you were asking for.

Here's mine with 5 gadgets, one more than yours. I like having the airswitch on the end and the soap on the side where I wash the dishes.

I have your exact setup, even including the sink. My arrangement is (left to right)--
HW ----- F --- AS -- S

My large sink is on the left and I wanted the hot water there just because there's more room to maneuver a cup and it's closer to the cabinet where I store them. So my soap isn't above the washing sink and I worried about that. (Don't we worry about all of these decisions?) What I do is squirt some soap on my dish brush or on something that needs washing and add it to the washing water. No big deal. We humanoids are amazingly adaptable!

Another hint I heard when we were doing our sink is that the size hole that they cut in the granite for the air switch is the same size as the instahot faucet- so I think you could switch them out if you were not satisfied. I have noticed that my soap dispenser leaks when I run my dishwasher. IT is on the same side of my sink as the dishwasher plumbing?

Here is mine.

I like having the airswitch near the faucet handle because I often turn them on or off at the same time. Also, the airswitch doesn't interfere with handle motion of the faucet so it can sit closer to the handle than taller items (more important at my prep sink where I wanted to group the accessories close together.

I like having the instahot/filtered water on the corner. It lets me set a cup or measuring cup on the counter at the side of the sink to fill it - especially convenient when trying to get a bottle ready one-handed while holding our granddaughter.
