Big chemo day over!

Wasn't so bad, just LONG - 9 hours. But I kept my "gals" in stitches the whole day cracking jokes with them. Made the day go better. No side effects yet, but they usually kick in a few days later, they said. I was very tired and cold last night, tired this morning and hard to get myself moving, but am back at work now. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers, and let me add my thoughts and prayers to others going through tough times.

I've been blessed by a very loving and supportive family who also have a great sense of humor at all the right times and just keep me going!

Glad it went well!! The affects of it didn't hit me until the 3rd day.the first 2 days/nights i couldn't sleep because of the steroids,but i only had steroids the day of the infusion,which was good.Good luck to you,hope they all go well.

What chemo drugs are you on?? I had cytoxan and taxotere.Was supposed to have adriamycin,but they didn't like the heart scan they did before chemo,so they dropped that one as it can damage your heart.
Hugs and prayers for you as you go thru this,and you're right about the support system,i also had/have a great one,including this board.

Good for y'all to have a sense of humor. I went through chemo w/ my BFF and we laughed the whole time. We visited w/ other patients and tried to cheer them up. It's all in the attitude!

Hi everyone! I did receive emails from two of you. Thanks for thinking of me and nudging me to give an update. I went through a period of just not wanting to be on the computer. Didn't even write to my dad in the Philippines. I was doing fine and still am. I was just sick of the computer. I returned to work part time on May 8. Tried working up to 40 hours a week but found it too tiring so I'm back down to 32 hours. Even that wears me out. I find I don't have the energy to do much in the garden on week nights. Weekends I get to sleep in so I'm able to work harder outside. I'm all through with treatments other than a little pill I take everyday. No noticable side effects from that. I see my oncologist every three months and my physical therapist (my SIL) every two weeks. She's working on my adhesions so reconstruction will go better in the fall. My left side is still pretty tight. Life is good and I'm basically happy. Your support has been wonderful. Just knowing there are people out there I've never even met who are thinking of me and cheering me on has been such a big help. Thank you to all my Gardenweb friends. Linda

Clare, you're welcome! Mom washed it and it looks good as new :-). I hope your ribs turned out well. These ones were really moist and flavorful. Cynic, lol The onions do look like bacon now that I look at the photo upon closer inspection. There was bacon in the baked beans lol (Bush's). I have no idea on what to cook in the Dutch oven next, but there are lots of ideas that I want to try. I was looking at beef stew recipes earlier today. I found one that's just four ingredients: stew meat, onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup, and water. I may add a few other things like canned tomatoes, mushrooms, celery, onion, and carrots. There are leftovers if anyone is interested or wanting a midnight snack lol. It's a wonder that people like my cooking and I'm still single.... Brad AKA Moonwolf

I have been there with you. I think radiation is the worst. Never have been drunk. Whoo! That must be some treatment. You are very brave but you don't know it when you are in the middle of it. Each year on Christmas Day I have an open house for 150 people who have had cancer with me.This year 195 are coming. Cancer buddies are friends forever. They bring their families too. Always new stories. I'll have to tell yours. Hope this passage passes very soon. You do sound like you are getting a lot of love. I hope you can get some exercise in when your energy is up. Thanks everyone. They really are a lovely couple , inside and out. It was quite the weekend, The Friday night BBQ, then the Wedding and reception Saturday and a Thank You Brunch on Sunday....I was so tired by the end of it all....but a good tired Have done nada all week !!! We have a lot of laughs here too...

When my dh had his stroke...and all the kids rush to TX to be with us..it was laugh a min...

our son said..."hey dad...next time you have a stroke do it in Las Vegas will ya"

Son nearly got arrested speeding down a hill in one of the hospital's wheel chairs..while his sisters, dh and I "laughed till we had tears running down our legs"(stolen quote)

I'm so glad to hear that it went well but take it easy because mine didn't get bad until the third day so don't over do. Keep us posted...

My chemo drugs so far are adriamycin, taxol, cisplatin, followed by neoplastin for the white count, decadron and something else for nausea and stuff. Have to take some iron once in a while as the nausea can tolerate it, and take really really big horse pills for potassium. Still on sleep meds as I had a severe sleep deprivation going on before I got sick, like going for weeks on virtually no sleep. Now I get 2-8 hours a night and it is WONDERFUL!!!

After the hysterectomy, I was so sick for six weeks and every test for my blood labs were so extremely bad, it was unsure if I'd ever be healthy enough for chemo. So, as strange as it might seem, I am glad and happy to be getting chemo. And I'd like to thank my family, especially Radioguy With No Pants for taking such good care of me. Dok keeps me going with with his love, humor, support, caring, nagging to eat, nagging to drink, nagging to sleep, nagging to wake up, nagging to take meds, etc. (Love you honey!!!)

You are such a hero to me. I just can't begin to tell you how I feel. I am so glad you are able to get through all of your treatments with a great attitude and sense of humor. You are going to be just fine my friend.

DFN has been doing so well! My humble thanks to all of you that have followed her progress. Things were looking rather bleak a few weeks ago. However, Nursebody, has revealed her "pioneer stock" and has a good chance of beating this. I've become a "helicopter" husband...hovering...hovering...

Just wanted to send you a big hug. Your spirit is wonderful, and will probably go a long way towards recovery. It's great to hear you have a strong support system too. I'm sure they have that in you as well. Here's to good news down the road!
