I stayed with some friends who have the Electrolux set. They love them and so did I. So much that I just purchased a set for our new house. I asked at the store and they said the E has never had that problem. One brand used to. I think just to be sure, I will leave my door ajar after I have used it.

It really depends on what floor you are putting them on ...I have an LG 2 years old...Great when it was on the cement in the garage....Shakes the whole house now that it's on the second floor....I never had a problem with the smells that everyone talks about.......Be very clear with the salesman that if you find the vibration to be too much for your situation that you will be calling to have it picked up at their expense...Have that written on the sales slip....If they bulk at that suggestion take your business somewhere else.......If you could start out by picking the brain of a salesman at an appliance store (not a dept store)you can get great info. on each brand........

One more thing... DH wants the new pair ?? What a great guy...

DD2 just sold her old top load set with her townhome, so I bought her an LG front load pair for Christmas. We ended up buying at Best Buy (BB rewards card gives you points/money back and so did my credit card). It's like this one, but white - Which wasn't on sale, but he gave us the sale price. I even whined a bit and the salesman gave us better than the sale price.

I don't see the dryer on their website, but it matched the washer (had round door) and is a steam dryer.

No problems with vibrations, etc mentioned above. She has a one level home.

I have a smaller Bosch pair in our main level laundry room. No problems with it and we've been in our home 4 years.

I have Bosch and love them. I needed a dryer with a condenser, so I was limited in my choices. Had Asko and wasn't thrilled, so replaced with Bosch when the Asko died. As far as the musty smell, don't have it (a friend who had those same concerns wouldn't believe me and actually insisted on sticking his head in the washer to check-lol), but the manual does say to leave the door of the washer open when not in use. I do that. I suspect water in the rubber gasket around the opening could hold water that would get mildew-y or moldy if not allowed to evaporate.

I have the Whirlpool Duet front loading washer/dryer and love them. Have had the set for ~4 years and although I was a bit concerned about the reports of musty smells/mold in the washer that has not been a problem at all. And, my laundry is done in my un-climate controlled garage, in Miami FL which means that for most of the year we're talking hot and very moist. In other words perfect breeding grounds if there was any tendency to mold/mildew. I leave the door to the washer open as well as the detergent dispenser and again, no problems at all.

As for performance, wonderful. These machines get clothes SO clean! And you can put huge loads in. I routinely wash my daughter's queen size down comforter, no problem. And it will swallow enormous quantities of bath towels, etc.

They weren't cheap but I also bought at Best Buy during a sale and got a discount, plus free delivery and extended no interest financing and so on.

Would definitely recommend Duet.

I have the LG Steam pair and have not had a problem with a musty smell or vibration but they are on pedestal stands in the basement. I occasionally leave the washer door ajar. Love the large load capacity!

If you want enough info to make your head spin, there is another forum on this site for appliances. Within that forum is one specifically for laundry which covers washers and dryers. I used that forum about a year ago when we were replacing our washer. We ended up with a top loading Speed Queen for a variety of reasons. First of all, even tho the top loader uses more water than the front loaders, the wash cycle is done in about 30 minutes. The front loaders take a lot longer than that. Also, I didn't read anything negative about Speed Queen. They've been around a long time and, I believe, are what you find in most laundromats. Also, keep in mind the height of the front loader without a pedestal. In the stores, they are almost always displayed on the pedestals and that can add hundreds of dollars to the total cost.

I spent several weeks on the laundry room forum before I discovered this wonderful place! We chose a fisher an paykel set for our second floor laundry after first choosing a sears front loader that ultimately would not fit in the space. We absolutely love the F&P and would buy it again in a minute.
They have all the advantages of the front loader without the vibration issues, and have a smaller footprint. Be sure and check the cycle times on some of the front loaders; they can be quite long. There are so many choices out there; we decided on the best set that would fit comfortably in our space.

I have the Whirlpool Duet Set for 5 years 2 months. I just had all my venting cleaned and it still is not drying my clothes. I wish I had called before the 5 year warranty ended. The dryer only worked well the first year.

The washer is great but I do not like the dryer.

Well...we bought today and hoping we didn't make a poor decision! Went to Sears 1st and were ready to buy Kenmore Elite, but after reading some reviews on-line last night, had second thoughts.

Today we went and looked at 2 models (not the steam models) of Samsung and LG. Ended up buying the LG model as we were able to get the pedestals at no add'l charge so @ $500 less than Samsung. We did get the 5 yr extended warrantly. My biggest concern is the mold/mildew smell and I kept asking salesman about this. He showed a new product, called Affresh to clean/remove odours.

Now I'm reading mixed reviews on line for LG. Oh well...will see what happens. If not happy with it in the 1st month or so, we'll exchange for different brand.

Die hard Bosch fan here! Have had Bosch appliances and front loaders over the last 30 years at least and have never been disappointed. I can't say the same for the KitchenAid or Maytag appliances I have had! My current Bosch front loading washer and dryer are in a 2nd floor laundry room, we have no vibration (or musty smell issues). I have always left the washer door ajar after use.

Ooops cross post! I shouldn't watch football at the same time as posting here! Oh well, hopefully your LG's will work out great, lisa mocha, but if not my vote will always be for Bosch!

I also have LG front loader, and I love it. I went with the standard dryer though as I couldn't see paying hundreds more for a dryer that had the same functionality (that I'm looking for) and two towels more capacity than a regular maytag dryer. There's really not much difference. If having a "pair" is at the top of your list of priorities, then so be it, but I don't have guests in my laundry room or an area that's visible, so I don't need the matching appliances. I've had no problems with my LG, almost two years now, and my neighbor has had hers for five years I want to say, and she's had zero problems. I have no problems with vibrations, my guess is it's not properly balanced (should be done by delivery guys. I run bleach through a cleaning cycle on my washer once a month (as is recommended by manufacturer), and I leave the door ajar occasionally, though I do neglect to wipe out the door as they recommend, but I've had no problems.

I wish I could get front loaders but my builder put the washer on the right and the dryer on the left!! So if I opened the washer door I would have to go up and over the door to get the laundry in the dryer. I have checked but the dryer door can open on either side but the washer door is fixed.
Can you tell that a man designed that laundry room! LOL

Our builder also designed our laundry room for the washer on the right and the dryer on the left. I put them the other way around, just used longer vent hose and hoses.
I also found a couple of brands of washers/dryers that had doors that opened opposite or could be changed.

In case anyone is still reading this -
Do check with your local utilities to see if you can get a rebate for a high efficiency washer. I combined rebates from our gas/electric company and water district and got a $250 rebate on our washer. (It had to be what they call a "Tier 3.")

I waited a long time to find a Consumer Reports best buy that was on sale etc., but it was worth it! I got a Frigidaire from Sears.

I do find that I need to leave the door of the washer open after using as will get musty.

I have an LG washer and dryer front loaders(super cheap set) and I haven't had any problems. We don't hear them and we're in the room that connects to the garage where they are located. When I read the instructions, it said to wipe the washer down after each wash and leave the door open.
The benefits to front loaders are that they are energy efficient and use like 80% less water. They are also easier on your clothes. We would have gotten a rebate but we called too late.

I have front loading LG washer/dryer. I have had them for exactly 4 years. We have already called a repairman out twice for the dryer and the door on the washer just fell off. completely off. I was surprised that the door was supported mostly by plastic. I did use them both almost everyday, but no one was swinging from the door. The customer service to repair the door has also been a hassle. Also, my parents just had to replace their LG washer and dryer, they had theirs for about 6.5 years and both completely pooped out. They are so nice looking that I really wish they lasted longer, but I would avoid the LG brand.

I've had my LG front load washer and dryer for a year or so and I have no complaints. I do leave the washer door open as the few times I haven't there was a musty smell.

I read one of the problems is that people aren't running loads with hot water so much anymore, so I run a sanitation load every week or so with my cleaning rags.
