Good for you in not letting yourself be intimidated by the granite installer. I agree-advice and info from this forum is so worthwhile. Now, how about posting some pics of your magnificent granite!!

kompy - we are suing the gc for not finishing our work, so this would get added to the complaint. The gc should have inspected it. We taped the little screw hole covers in baggies on the glass part until after it got painted so they would not get lost and when I was cleaning it the other day, saw the chip near the parts baggies that made it harder to see. The door is still not painted, so it would be less of a loss to swap it out now than if we had finished it off. If it were a used door, or if we had it a few years, it would be no big deal. I am just so tired because of paying for a new extension and renovation and having so many new things that are not done up to standard for new construction. If I had gotten a deal on the door, I might have not worried about it, but we paid full price and there is a defect. It is ok for us to blow off the defect, but they should have noticed it and brought it to our attention or ordered a new one for us. They gave us no choice. Their job was to provide a new door, free of defects, and install it. I am not willing to compromise on inferior materials or work any more from them. We tried being nice while they were working on our project, but they left us in the lurch and now we have the added stress of pursuing them to get them to fulfill their obligations. We get nothing for the extra hassle and time lost. So, if making them pay for the new door to be put in and the old one taken out seems petty, well, so be it. They should have done it themselves and we would not have to pay another person to do it! It is just another example of them giving us a less than promised outcome. If we weren't already suing them and it were a rare exception, we'd let it slide. There just are so many big and small items that need addressing that it has added up to no more tolerance on our part.

Here you go, the uppers have the calander hanging on one side and emergency numbers on right door and all the office things live here. There is an outlet for charging cameras and "my" stuff. On the counter is an outlet for the land line. Antique tray is our magnet board. Top drawer has a powerstrip attached to the back for DH's electronics this is "his" drawer for keys and anything else. Bottom drawer is the coupons, and "junk" drawer as I have found it is inevitable! Basket is home for shoes. There is now a cushion on the dog kennel. Once Buddy is no longer we can pop an end panel on kennel and the lid under cushion lifts for more storage. Hope this helps! From Kitchen before and after From Kitchen before and after

We are finally getting close to our to-the-studs kitchen reno. We have the plans, met with the contractor and are on his schedule to begin in a couple of months. I have been pouring over all the GW threads, learning, planning, revising, analyzing, becoming the dreaded TKO who carries samples in my car, moves my little "pile o' samples" around for different light and so I can catch a glimpse as coming around a corner. Yes...generally making DH worry about my sanity. Ha!! All of my past kitchens have been painted white or cream - not because I designed them that way but because they came with the houses of the past. I am ready for a change. Well.....only a half change. Want natural wood lowers/island and white uppers. I originally thought I wanted QS oak cabs (after seeing the pictures on here) but after getting sample doors of the QS oak and the natural walnut with a clear coat, I fell in total love with the walnut. I know that all wood changes over time, most get darker, and walnut gets lighter. Then, (literally) began having nightmares about my beautiful new walnuts morphing into some faded old barnwood look. (That's not bad, but barnwood is just not me!! I don't care for chippy, farmhouse for me) Now, I am suffering severe buyers remorse and haven't even ordered yet. ACK!! The plan is to add 3 large windows on the sink wall (northeast facing wall). The sun does come up from behind the mountain in front of the house, but we keep the blinds closed for those couple of hours in the early morning, and will be adding a cover on the porch that is outside the sink windows as part of the reno. I really don't mind if the walnut lightens over time, I like seeing the soft swirls of heartwood and sapwood. I love wood. Love the texture, the beautiful history all written down in the multi layers of the tree's past. Would you do natural walnut again? Have you had any remorse? Help me off the cliff! -Melody
