3-2-1 Cake - Wow!

Well, I just got around to trying it. Based upon the feedback from all of you, I made sure to buy a deep-flavored cake mix. I bought Betty Crocker Triple Chocolate. What a yummy little treat. I ate it right out of the mug, warm. I guess I could've turned it out onto a plate and put a scoop of whipped cream or ice cream, and will maybe do that next time. But I liked it just as it was, and it was the perfect size.

Thank you!

    Glad you mentioned it.

I'd gotten the cake mixes (I'm a vanilla person) and tossed them in a ziplock about a week ago, then never made it up.

    Just did--DELICIOUS!

    What a great idea!

I stirred in 1/4 teaspoon of cocoa powder to the dry mix before adding the water. Sooo much better.

Just got the 2 mixes today. Betty Crocker Angel Food and Super Moist Chocolate Fudge. Will mix them tomorrow and give it a try.

Someone had mentioned not being able to find Orange Cake Mix. WalMart had it today.

I've not tried it yet but I did pass it along to a friend who has a hubby with a sweet tooth. She doesn't eat cake but he loves having a snack when he gets home from work, he's a bar manager, and only likes fresh cake. So she made it before she went to bed and left it for him to enjoy, she said he loves it. She made pineapple with white icing and coconut, said it was really good.

Sheilajoyce, did you use sweetened or unsweetened cocoa?

It makes you want to tell everyone about it doesn't it.

I did see it on Pinterest. My daughter tried it and gave me some in a bag but I haven't tried it yet. I think I'll use coffee instead of water.

I want orange cake mix SO bad. None in my town, but it's on the Walmart list for tomorrow! LOL Thanks Sue!

I tried this with chocolate cake when I first saw it here. Yummy. A little spongy, I changed the microwave time to 50 seconds instead of the one minute.
Yesterday I bought Orange cake mix at Wallyworld, and instead of the water, used OJ! It was awesome!!
What a great little treat (especially for someone like me, who would have a hard time leaving the WHOLE cake alone).

Sent my son back to school with a bag of red velvet. He made it for everyone in the dorm! LOL

I made the devils food and added nuts. I had some peanut butter icing in the freezer to top it off. I wish we could make it a bit larger without the recipe going nuts. Any one tried it? How long would you have to cook it if we doubled it?

I cut up a marshmallow and stirred the pieces into the batter last night, but then I covered the piping hot cake with ice cream and ate it and couldn't really taste the marshmallows.

I think the cake needs either ice cream or some kind of frosting.

    3, 2, 1 CAKE
These individual little cakes are amazing
and ready to eat in one minute! They are perfect
for whenever you feel like a treat without all the fat
and calories that cake can have. Genius idea!

    INGREDIENTS:

1 box Angel Food Cake Mix

1 box Cake Mix - Any Flavor

    Makes 1 serving.

    DIRECTIONS:

In a ziploc bag, combine the two cake mixes together
and mix well. For each individual cake serving, take
out 3 Tablespoons of the cake mix combination and

    mix it

with 2 Tablespoons of water in a small microwave-safe
container. Microwave on high for 1 minute, and you have
your own instant individual little cake!

KEEP remaining cake mixture stored in the ziploc bag
and use whenever you feel like a treat! You can top
each cake with a dollop of fat free whipped topping
    and/or some fresh fruit.

    Helpful Tips:

This recipe is called 3, 2, 1 Cake because all you need
    to remember is

    "3 tablespoons mix,
    2 tablespoons water,
    1 minute in the microwave!"

TRY various flavors of cake mix like carrot, red velvet, pineapple,
lemon, orange, etc. Just remember that one of the mixes has
to be the angel food mix; the other is your choice.
    The flavor possibilities are endless!

    NOTES:
The best thing is, you open both cake mixes into a gallon
storage bag, one that 'zip locks' or 'self-seals', or a
container that seals tightly, shake the two cake mixes to
blend and then make the recipe. Storage of mix is simple,
put it on a shelf. No need to refrigerate, since the mix is dry.

Always remember, that one of the cake mixes MUST be
Angel Food. The other can be any flavor.
The Angel Food is the cake mix that has the eggs whites
    in it.

I used AF and Chocolate Fudge mix. So far, I've been disappointed. It is spongy, not like a cake, probably because of the AF mix. On my second try I did change the time to 55 seconds; next time I'm going down to 50. I put Cool Whip and Hershey chocolate syrup on it.

Joann_fla, I so agree. I would prefer a larger "helping."

I made it with the AF and chocolate cake mix my daughter gave me. Instead of water, I used coffee and did it in a ramekin. Question for you. Tonight I bought my own box of angel food cake mix. In my cupboard I have two brownie mixes, one with walnuts and one with cheesecake. Before I commit to mixing them together and wasting money, does brownie mix work as well as cake mix? Anyone try it?

someone on the other thread used brownie mix and it worked fine. Check that 1-2-3 link above.

I think I'll try to make mine bigger, I'll let you know if it works.
Oh, don't try using a cupcake liner to cook it in, it will overflow!

I made the 3-2-1 mix with chocolate and angel food, plus a box of red jello, to make a Black Forest type cake. DH really liked it warm with cool whip. I'm thinking of making cupcakes, since I have a half-filled can of vanilla icing.

The brownie mix was very good..better than the chocolate cake mix my DD gave me, and it had walnuts in it. Did someone say there are only 50 calories in it? Hurray if that's true. Of course, that's plain out of the microwave, not with a scoop of icecream on top..lol

Sue_va they are spongy. This is really an old weight watchers recipe. I tried it years ago. Did not care for it then. I'm not good at tricking my senses. When I want cake I want real cake. Takes care of the craving and I can move on.

OMGOD...I wish I woulda never opened this post...I can feel the pounds going right to my thighs!! can't wait to try it though!!

Well yes, it's spongy because of the angel food cake mix. That should be expected. Angel food cake is spongy. So, if one doesn't like that, they likely won't like this. I love angel food cake and this is such a nice, delightful quick and easy treat.

I was watching a cooking show yesterday and the guest-chef recommended mixing cake mix with club soda when making a cake. Using bubbly water in 3-2-1 would make the cakes even lighter, without adding any calories. I sometimes use club soda in pancakes, a tip from my Mom.

Jannie I saw that on the Dr.Oz show yesterday. I tuned in because I follow the Hungry Girl cooking show. She always comes up with good alternatives. If I remember correctly a slice of her version of chocolate cake was 170 calories. She used a box mix and club soda. Her cauliflower mac and cheese looked wonderful as well.

I posted on another thread awhile back that I cut the angel food part to 1/2 of the box and I like the consistency and the texture. I like angel food cake but I like this better. So I mix a 1/2 box of Angel food mix with a whole box of cake mix and it has a better texture and flavor...

Yes, it was from Hungry Girl on Dr. Oz, technically not a cooking show.

I'm so in deep doo doo...it's soo good...especially with a dollip of ready whip on top!

the smiley face is where I stuck the fork in to make sure it was really done...50 seconds is all it needed in my micro...I haven't tried it in a cup yet...it looked perfect in these Cream Brulee ramekins!

I just now tried it...I did dark chocolate cake mix and AF and it is a hit here. I spooned vanilla frosting on it.
I also tried to double it, LOL, I had a mess but it was still very tasty. I will double next try but use a larger cup.

I know this is an old post, but can I add vanilla pudding for extra flavor? Or will that ruin it?

What size container are you using successfully? I've known this recipe forever but just never did it. My cake mixes are mixed. I'm only worried that I'll start making them 2 at a time. And then 3.

a regular coffee cup works fine.

    I use a coffee mug
