3-2-1 cake re-visted again.

Awhile back someone was searching for orange cake mix to use with AF. I found a box yesterday but it is a Midwest store (HYVee)so it won't help everyone. The brand was Duncan Hines. If anyone has tried this let me know the results. I am thinking of using orange juice for the liquid and serving with orange sherbet.

I use it. I had NO problem finding orange cake, but it was HARD to find the boxed angel food cake. And, yes, it does taste better with the orange juice. With the water it was good, with the orange juice it was GREAT!

Pump.. I used OJ with my orange cake/AF cake mix. Also reduced the microwave time from one minute to 50 seconds. Seems to work better in my m/wave. Before when i used the choc/af it was a little tough/spongy.
LOVE the orange/angel food...so far my favorite. I did put a tiny dab of canned frosting on it when i took it out of the microwave

Remember that many popular cake mix brands contain trans-fats (partially hydrogenated oils). The FDA has determined trans-fats to be unhealthful and has banned their use in food products. There's a 3 year phase out. The below linked article notes that it's expected the ban will reduce deaths from heart disease by thousands of people each year. That's significant. Maybe not in regular grocery stores, but there are mixes available with less dangerous ingredients. Trans-fat ban article

Tiger is right. Take the free money and get the better system. $1500 is just the from the Feds. Your state and/or local utility also will give you rebates, but you'll need to meet a minimum efficiency which your quotes do not achieve. If your cost delta goes from $2300 down to $400 that is a big difference. Your contractor is not being very helpful. I interviewed 8 contractors for my home and went with the the one that: a. did the load calcs b. worked with me and all my crazy thoughts on various system configurations c. was professional and responsive when it came to answering questions. d. made me and my wife feel comfortable with what they proposed. I did not go with the cheapest bid or the most expensive (although it was quite expensive). My costs were much higher due to a lot of duct work. Either way I can promise you that you will get what you pay for. Tigerdunes is steering you in the right direction. In the end it is up to you. I spent a month researching and interviewing contractors before making a decision. BTW I took an option for 12months 0% so I could actually get all my rebates and returns and spread out the cost at the same time. In my case I get the $1500+ 1200 more from my utility. There are also a lot of rebates for new systems. I know Carrier and Lennox have major rebates at this time for sure, but in general they are larger with the nicer systems. It never hurts to get a variety of quotes to weigh your system options (I had multiple quotes from the same contractors)

Wow, never in my wildest dreams would I have thought you ladies would have loved this recipe so well or I would have posted this recipe ages ago. My sweet sister in law who lives in Washington D.C. fixed this little "cake" for us sisters in laws about 3 or 4 years ago and we loved it. I really thought that it was well known about until I had several of my friends over and we were suppose to have a get together and make something crafty...I am NOT a craft person so I thought of this cake thing that my sister had shown us several years ago so I did this recipe with the ladies of my group. The ladies had so much fun with this recipe, and were ooohing and aaahing...so the next day I gave you the recipe. I was surprised that it was not well known. I have now started using it with my husband and myself more again..as I had gotten burned out and I had not experimented with it like you have done, so I am taking some of your ideas and running with it. I use the large muffin paper cups for mine so I do not have any clean up. Someone had posted that there was spill over if you use the cup cake paper cups, but not if you use the large cupcake paper cups. I am tickled you like them. Thanks.

Hmmm... 24 hrs. later, the COLD side, which had the worst leak, is BONE DRY, while the HOT side is still "sweating" slightly, not even dripping... Still, I obtained some of the pink triple-density tape today, and will re-do BOTH of these puppies... THREADS on both nipple and valve should be OK, eh? Don't everyone pipe up at once... have to avoid info overload, lol... ;')

I brought this thread back up because I wanted to tell everyone that I liked the sponge cake but thought that I would like it better if it was more "cakey" and I recalled someone else mentioned the texture. I took my original 3-2-1 mix and added a second cake mix to it and I really like the texture better....The Angel Food Mix is mostly egg white so I felt like it was safe and would ruin the mix...

I like it much better.

I did a devils food with the AF, then I used milk instead of water. On top before cooking I added a chopped up peanut butter cup, & walnuts too. Boy, that is good. Topped it off with a tsp of PB frosting.
I think I want to try a German chocolate then add some of that German Chocolate frosting. This is getting very addictive!

I am VERY addicted. Are you sure they are only 50 calories? My fave so far is AF, chocolate brownie with walnuts, coffee as liquid (but I'll try milk) and cool whip on top. SIL likes Kahlua poured on.

ruthieg, do you mean you used a total of 3 boxes of cake mix, one angel food and two regular cake mix?
