Ramekins might be too small. I guess you could mix it up and just put a little bit in each one.

I often make it a little bit larger. I don't even measure it. I have it mixed up (I like chocolate mixed with the angel food) and I put it in one of those small pyrex bowls and just add enough water to make the batter "look right." I don't measure and I don't time it...except to set the microwave for maybe a minute and a half. I test it to see if it needs a few seconds more. It always turns out perfectly. It is a very forgiving little recipe.

My daughter makes these cakes all the time for her and her son....She like the red devils food best of all but she still does her in a mug and then usually puts a dab of icing on the top.....She also made some using a yellow cake and said they were perfect for strawberry shortcakes.....

If your ramekins are the size mine are , it would work. That's all I use when I make one. It comes to almost the top . I've never tried red velvet..just AF with a brownie mix. Always turns out well.

My husband has been eating these for a while now and he makes it in a salad bowl, using heaping tablespoons. One minute is still long enough. Then he tops it with ice cream and syrup, or fruit and whipped cream. Currently he's eating pineapple flavored cake (blech) but he really liked the cherry chip.

I'm not sure I'd serve this to company, though. I ate one and wasn't all that impressed with it. I'd rather have a cupcake or a brownie.

The nice thing is that you can try it ahead of time to see if the ramekins work (I tend to doubt it). If not, use mugs. Better to be too big than too small.

I bake my in 8 oz. (1 c.) ramekins. It works fine and leaves room for whatever you want to put on top. I've only made the angel food/lemon cake so far and still have quite a bit left of it. I put macerated strawberries or blueberries on top.

This cake needs something else. I use ice cream to top it since that is what I have here. But icing or whip cream or berries and sauce would be good too.

I would try one at home before taking your ramekins over to your friend's. It is easy for these little cakes to grow bigger than the container. That way you can decide if the cake is chocolaty enough. Otherwise, add 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of cocoa powder to each cup.

Remember there are different sizes of ramekins. patti43 is saying that a one cup size works fine. I need to go measure mine...

i use the ramekins that came with a cream brulee kit...they are perfect!! currently workin on a spice mix...love this stuff!

I have two different size ramekins. I use the bigger one, the standard size. They look pretty in them coming up to almost the top. You can add a dollop of Cool whip, ice cream, berries...Your imagination can take it wherever..
