The Betty Crocker cake in a mug that I seen at the grocery store reminded me of this. A 4 pack of cake in a mug for 3$...no way. I did it the old way. 1 box of Angel food cake mix, 1 box cake mix your flavor choice I chose deep dark chocolate. ..mix together well and store in a airtight container. Put 3T of the mix into a large mug and stir in 2T water. Microwave 1 min and 15 seconds. Might have to adjust cook time.

I'm sure you all remember this. With school out for the summer I figured this will be a good portion control snack for the boys and Tim can fo it himself. Of course they arnt the best cake you will ever eat but not bad for a quickie sweet.

I remember. Haven't made one of those in a long time. Can't have cake right now, though.

Yes! I always have several flavors mixed up and DH makes them in the evening sometimes and tops with ice cream for an evening snack while watching TV. And he often fixes them for my 2 grandsons as an after-school snack (he watches them after school). He has add-ins available for them too, like mini chocolate chips, fruit, coffee powder, etc. My favorite is plain old white cake with fresh strawberries mixed in before baking.

Just had a little hunger pain that needed a fix. Your recipe came just at the right time. Used a Spice Cake mix. Nice flavor! Nice little snack for hubby and I to enjoy without making a whole cake, which we sure dont need! Can see why RVers would like this recipe. Thanks for sharing.

Sheila, I knew that the angel food mix would make any cake mix a bit more bland, so for the chocolate I found a dark fudge chocolate cake mix, which worked very well. I didn't want to use Devil's Food, because to me it just looks dark, but doesn't have a lot of chocolate flavor. I made the right choice. The Dark Fudge Chocolate mix was just right. DH and my grandson have been experimenting with all sorts of flavorings (coffee, cocoa, fruit, etc.), but to me the whole point is 3-2-1 meaning "super simple". If I'm going to go to all that trouble, I might as well just make a whole cake, LOL.

My husband has been eating these for a while now and he makes it in a salad bowl, using heaping tablespoons. One minute is still long enough. Then he tops it with ice cream and syrup, or fruit and whipped cream. Currently he's eating pineapple flavored cake (blech) but he really liked the cherry chip. I'm not sure I'd serve this to company, though. I ate one and wasn't all that impressed with it. I'd rather have a cupcake or a brownie.

I made those a lot for my kids. I would make them when they come home from school so they can eat it while doing homework. Now they are much older, and we are eating healthier so no mug cakes for us!

I have a recipe that makes a mug cake from scratch instead of a mix. Since we only have them on very, very rare occasions , it helps to not need the mix around.

There are many different ones on Pinterest. Not all for cake. I made a page about nothing but them. However, I haven't made one in a long time....since they were first talking about them.

I used to eat them often but I've been dieting so they are not on the list right now. I make mine from scratch and not with the angel food cake. Love them!
