Following the path of others on GW, we recessed our frig into the wall. They built a frame (header? around the recess, and the waterline comes thru the header. The plug goes into a "clock" plug on the side frame.

DH says as much as you need to pull the frig out for service or cleaning. I'm not sure this is what you are asking, so if not sorry and disregard. 36" -48" seems as if would be good.

The KA I'm planning says it only needs 1" behind for air flow, but then goes on to warn about enough space for water line.

I've never had an ice maker before so this is new territory. The new wall is an interior wall on a single story house. The plumbing lines are under the house. I assumed that the plumber would plumb from under the house and run the water up through the bottom of the new wall's footer. I never thought about recessing the fridge in because I've was warned on a layout thread that I might need even more than a 4" standard wall thickness for water lines.

This question stems from me having to figure out the exact placement of the two windows flanking my rangetop so framing can start next week. The window location is influenced by the depth of the fridge cabinet on the perpendicular wall. Y'all know how this goes!!

If the line is coming from up and under then the window placement shouldn't be effected by the water line placement - unless I'm not fully understanding

The placement of the refrig & whether it will have surround may be effected

The water line will also depend on whether the plumber utilizes copper or pex - If you have hw flooring please don't be fooled by installers, plumbers or anyone that you can simply just pull the fridge in/out - You MUST have a piece of plywood or the likes to pull it out onto - to distribute the weight evenly

jetvtr - do you mean if you're going to pull out the fridge, pull it onto a sheet of ply, e.g., rather than rolling it straight out onto a hw floor?

Yes, that will allow the weight of fridge to be distributed rather than all the weight on the small wheels. Similar to a piano.

You should first lay kraft paper down and then the plywood. This will prevent the plywood from scratching the floor.

Jejvtr--I was typing out loud to myself about how this information drives other decisions, like the placement of the windows on the adjacent wall. There are no windows near the fridge. Sorry to confuse you.

Here's the layout. These interior walls will all be new, and the fridge will be in a cab.

I'm assuming plumber will use pex. I don't want to pay for copper at this point.
