Painting Doors - am I nuts?

What is the "rule" for painting each side of a door a different color?

I am in the process of making the entrance from my garage into the house more welcoming and interesting. Only family will see this, but I want a nice welcoming entrance when I come home. I know this a little outside the box, but I am creating a little vignette around the door in the garage so that it looks like the entrance to a cottage: beadboard paneling on the wall and an exterior type lantern. I would like to paint the side of the door facing the garage red, which is kind of my personal signature color. Inside the door, which opens to the basement, the walls are peach. My plan is the paint the doors facing the basement a gray green.

If I go through with this idea it would mean that the door from the garage into the basement would be red on one side and gray green on the other.

Have I totally lost it? Help. I don't know if this is inspiration or lunacy.
