Paint Shaver Pro Question
Comments (2)I bought one almost 15 years ago to use on my 1858 home. My house has white cedar shingles with a 12 1/2 inch exposure, so it was tricky. I renailed every shingle and then proceed to shave them. Carla is correct in saying that you need to be careful, but I found with practice that I could get it to work pretty well. You can adjust the depth of the cut so that you're actually taking off more paint and less wood. This machine would definitely work better on clapboard than shingles due to the relative straightness of calpboard as compared to shingles. Also, I purchased the sander that they sell as well, which was a mistake. It's basically a small electric grinder fitted with a sanding disc. I found it very difficult to sand and not leave marks in the wood. I purchased a Porter-Cable orbital sander, hooked it up to my shopvac, and it works exceptionally well. Hope this helps. Comments (4)We used Pittsburgh Paint mixed in a BM color (Sag Harbor Gray) two years ago on our exterior. (It happened to be on sale and the guys at the paint store, where those two brands are sold, suggested it.) We have been very happy so far- we touched up a place that had gotten some driveway sealer on it a couple weeks ago, and were pleasantly surprised to find the original paint hadn't faded at all....See MoreHas anyone painted Andersen exteriors ?
Comments (1)Actually, when you think about it, you might like this color. There's no reason to make everything match. I think a house looks nice with the doors being a different color than the exterior window color/and or other exterior trim color. As it says in instructions----call them and ask about the color you want to put on it. Otherwise, the warranty will go out the window. The exterior of this door is a vinyl wrap with silicone caulk around the glass and drip edge at the bottom. It will be impossible to make this take paint. I think you'll love this door just as it is....See MoreHas anyone used C-2 paint?
Comments (8)Yes, the colors are wonderful. It's a European style paint with lots of high quality pigment. Every color is "hand-crafted" by a group of artist-type folks. I have spent a fair amount of time with their displays, helping others choose colors and honestly, there are no "bad" colors in their line. Their giant chips were the first in the industry. Maybe still the only. (I know Aura has larger chips, perhaps others have caught on as well.) The coverage is great and they pride themselves in their primer system, whereby using the right primer makes the finish color more of what it is supposed to be. There is a good demonstration of that on the website. I helped a friend with a deep red and it took only one coat of primer and two coats of paint. He is an artist and picky about finish. I haven't seen the outcome yet, but he's very happy. They did a deep purple in the bedroom... I have Ersatz and Radiate in my laundry room. Did the painting myself (well...I will have, once it's done!) The only complaint I have is that the smell is a bit strong. Like ammonia. I have been spoiled by other, non-smelly paints. A friend has Russian Sage in her guest room and Tortoise on her front door. Both lovely. Her daughter has used a few other colors, including Silver Screen, and she's very happy. Where are you and where are you buying? If it's the DC Metro area, I hear they have great color help at Monarch....See MoreMiss EFF
