Sorry I haven't checked in for a while....

But I retired from Verizon Communications on December 29th. 44 years, 6 months, 1 day. Done. I'm still getting used to it but am enjoying every minute of it as well. I actually used to check in from work during slow periods (now it can be told). I'm now attempting to adopt a more healthy lifestyle. We have a treadmill that I hadn't used in over four years, but beginning with the day I stopped working I've been on it a half hour every morning, haven't missed one! I'm afraid to; I'm such a creature of habit that if I miss a day it might take another 4 years to start again! Also I now have soup for lunch most days instead of a sandwich. I think bread is my worst enemy. I hope all this works because I've signed up for an over 60 (ahem) softball league. Although I'm primarily a pitcher, when you get to my age they really need guys that can run around the outfield a little bit, so I'll be trying that out too. Pray I don't embarass myself too much! I might be 62 but the competitive spirit I had in my 20s is as strong as ever.

My husband's cousin is 82 and still playing in a softball league! Enjoy every minute of your retirement. You just might find out that you're so busy you don't have time for all the things you thought you would do when you retired!

For many years, there was a den of red foxes in the woods down by the creek. A pair of them used to run across my patio occasionally, at night, and scare the bejeebies out of me! Guess they kept the bunny population at near zero. In the 40+ years I've lived here, have only seen two babies for a couple of days, sitting in my front lawn and then they were gone. A tenant in a nearby rental property had a white buck that escaped a couple of times and came down to check out my Hosta buffet. The second time he came, I met the owner and invited him to dine on his choice of fried or stew, if his rabbit escaped again. It never came back.

Thanks for that idea bestlawn...will try it haven't bought the rug I want yet so may do that. Ahhh womans health problems is the deal. Yesterday they called and my iron level is 10! Supposed to be 40 I am getting another ultrasound on tuesday then being sent to another gyno in St. Joe that afternoon wish me well. Pattico got the dvd mailed to you yesterday Bye all...STacy

This is where I am at, DH seeÂs us remodeling kitchen in three or more years and I see us remodeling our kitchen in the next year or earlier. So, Right now I am more in the process of elimination as far as cabinet brands go. Many earlier brands have been eliminated due to size issues as in I want and need deeper and taller wall cabinets and prefer little to no fillers. Also, cost has been a big factor. I have a basic idea of layout but need help in changing the nook area and windows. Some appliances will be reused but we will replace refrigerator with the kichenaid 42" built-in French door paneled and replace the microwave with the adventium. I have the countertop narrowed down to three or four and know exactly what I want for the backsplash, still unsure of wall splash behind stove though. The kitchen sink has been narrowed down to two choices and cab hardware to three. I know what I want for lighting but havenÂt found exactly the right one, I will know it when I see it. Still tossing around the idea of wood range hood verses stainless. The doors of my dreams are simple $$$applied moulding but with most likely end up with nice raised panel for style of home. Husband thinks I spend way too much time thinking of and planning for the kitchen.

Thank you! marti, I fell 4 yrs ago and have had 6 surgeries including Cervical spine (and maybe one or two more in my future), and lots of other 'ailments' that come from being 'sick'. I am on the up side now, have limited abilities, cannot do what I used to do, was in my late 50's full of energy, working, had my own kitchen remodel business and doing projects, my blog and learning photography. Then fell (upside down on my head) then somehow 4 yrs went by, I sort of 'wake up' and I am not able to work outside the home and I am in my 60's and retired! Like a bad dream filled with 6 surgeries to fix parts to work again, and lots of therapy. BUT I am going to make the BEST of it! I am alive and can do things for my self and can function better now. So, it is not all bad, just trying to find my niche in the world again! I am originally from Nova Scotia, Massachusetts then to Florida, Virginia and then now back to Florida. I am an East coast gal. Love the palm trees here and the climate is mild.

I remember you - in some previous threads we discussed the joys of Philadelphia living - Parking Wars, Joseph's Pizza, your daughter's wedding etc. - I used to work at the Library on Cottman Ave.

Congrats on your retirement but how is your wife adjusting?

Congratulations on your retirement, and it's good to see you back here! It sounds as though you are approaching retirement in a smart way, with the exercising. You will quickly wonder how you ever found time to work. Enjoy each day!

Excellent, congrats on your retirement and keep up with that treadmill, lol. I'm jealous--I have 8-10 years to go and want to retire now!!! I have too many fun things I want to do to let work get in the way.

Maire_cate - I think my wife is adjusting OK. She babysits our grandson Jimmy at his parents house, usually 5 days a week. I'm trying to help out - I normally do laundry during the day, except those few items that require more TLC than I'm prepared to put out. Jeans & towels, no problem! Also we were having people over for the holidays and I took it upon myself to defrost 2 refrigerator freezers. Also I clean up any dirty dishes that might be around. I don't like to be told what to do, but if I decide to do things on my own it works out. I think my wife's caught on; she doesn't want to kill the golden goose :)

As you were on here a couple of years ago ... I figured that you'd be 82 or so, by now.
