Actually, judging from the second-to-last photo, the plant you have behind the sofa looks in scale to me. It peeks out above the sofa, but doesn't block to windows. Plus, how can you even THINK about taking away DD (dear dog)'s vantage point? lol

I totally understand how infrequent and wonderful it is when a husband and wife actually agree ~ right off the bat~ on so many decorating items . . . and I have to say that you two did a fantastic job! BIG congrats!!! I really like your sofas and lamps and that rug in your living room. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your new artwork! They're beautiful and they add so much to each room. I love the chair and lamp, too. Both are a bit out of the ordinary and anchor that corner space beautifully. I can see why you get so many compliments on them!

Betty- would never dream of taking that away from him. He also sits at top of stairs and can see through the windows in entryway and the top windows in that corner. He can see all the people go by with their dogs. He barks at them like he is telling them to let him join them.

Actually, the plant in that corner is a long basket arrangement I picked up from someone at work. It is simply resting on top of that large jar that we fleck spray painted years ago for our first home. In the pic it looks pretty good. We put an uplight back there and at night it looks pretty cool. Just need to get the right plants back there because in person the one there really is not that nice there. Can't use real because of doggy and naughty kitty.

Thanks for all the nice comments. What is really nice about this room kinda fits a recent post about decorating more for look than function. Although this room does look really clean and neat it is really family friendly. We upgraded the microfiber to a stronger grade because we knew doggy would get up there when we are not home. The chair dh picked out did not seem very comfortable when he showed it to me. OMG it is so comfy that we fight over it, although it is his throne technically. We now go in there and drink coffee, chat with visitors or just rest. You can put your feet up on the sofa with no worries. The doggy drool that inevitably ends up on the glass tabletops wipes off easily, the round edges are soft on your legs when chasing him around the room. I am glad we did not do a rug under the dining table because when doggy chases kitty, she likes to sit on the chairs and bat at him while he is under there, he does not knock the chairs over. They simply slide out of place. We thought of curtain panels in dining room that puddled on floor but thought that would be too tempting for kitty to play in. Pups water/food station is on the slate floor. His dribbles from drinking land on the slate and by the time he hits the pergo it is all gone. I hate stepping on wet dribble. Yuck.

So I think we accomplished the look we were hoping for. Magazine style with family function.

Love the way you dog's ears echo the corners of the pillow. ;-)

I love your shutters, can you tell me what brand they are??
Are they inside mounts?? Do you ever open the shutters into the room?? Do you feel you have a clear view outside through the slats?? are they 3" wide? Do you ever feel that you can't see out as well as you'd like?? I'm in love with plantation shutters but I'm afraid to cover up our view. Would appreciate any info you have for me.

I think it came out great but have one little tweak.... I think the pic in the entryway is not level. The right side is a hair higher than the left. I just want to reach in and straighten it. I showed a house the other day where almost all pics were off level, and so I was straightening like mad at every opportunity but trying not to be noticed.

I love your mix of colors, it looks very Arts & Crafts to me and truly comfortable too. Pretty furniture and it all makes for an impressive Before & After! Bet your DH is pleased as well...

Actually, when we moved in there were already two hooks in wall. One is literally 1/2" lower than the other. When I posted pictures in past asking for help in arranging this room it was mentioned that the two Ansel Adams pics I had hanging there were not level to each other. Turns out that not only were the hooks uneven, the two pictures hanging were framed by same place but one is 1/2"shorter than the other. Because in original house these pictures were hung on different walls it took us over 6 yrs to realize they were framed wrong. Funny.

I need to reposition one of the hooks because no matter how we hang the new picture it slides over. I totally forgot to do that this weekend. Will add to list.

Shared all your wonderful comments to my dh. He loves to remind me how right he was about that chair and lamp being a perfect fit with the rest of the room. Now if we can just keep kitty from using it to escape from doggy- she springs from dining room to chair to the slats in stair rail. Too many more treats and that fat little fur body won't be fittin between the slats- lol.
