I was asked by a few members to Post photoÂs of my creations.

DonÂt like to do that too often, because it seems to be like bragging.

But then how can you show what you have done did,

if you donÂt show it and explain, what it is.

I have posted a few but donÂt remember which.

Anyway , I thought IÂd start small. ( literally )

I think this is Food related , because it could be used to hunt very small Game.

Here is a Miniature Pennsylvania Rifle; it is 9 inches long, I made in the 70Âs

It fired a 12 Cal. ball ( a BB is 17 Cal.)

The Wood for the Stock is 130 year old , Tiger Stripe Maple. Photo's are slightly blurred.

That is a Brass Patchbox on the Back Stock

Everything was completely handmade.

ItÂs Grandfather is about 58 inches long.and fired a 45 Cal. Ball, thus the Long Rifle.

Many of you may not be interested in Guns but Long Rifles are a part of our History

They helped win the American Revolution.

It is pictured here with a normal size Powder Horn,

along with a small one and a 58 Cal. Mini ball.

There is the small Ball and Patch for the Mini Rifle., also.

Even back then I did odd things.

I forget what year I made this but there was an Article in,

Muzzle Blasts Magazine and

I won the Gold Hammer Award that month from Mechanics Illustrated Magazine.

Yes Lou, you are a man of many talents!

What a delicate and precise work. But then you are such an experienced craftsman at carving as well as cooking.

The aphid mummies do look very similar, enough that I would say that's what I think they are. Thanks for the help ID'ing those. I'm finding that most of my squash/melons/beans to have a lot is silvery flake smutsch on the underside of the leaves. And if I look very close I see a lot of little dark dots. From what I've seen online those are the "bite" marks of sucking insects. While I see a lot of lady bugs in the garden I'm not sure they're keeping up and my problem may soon get out of hand. Can anyone recommend a brand of "safer" pesticide I can get from somewhere like Lowe's or Home Depot? A pyrethrin pesticide right? I have some of the synthetic pyrethrin pesticides around. Cypermethrin as well as some Bifenthrin that I use around the outside of the house and cinder block walls to keep those total &*#&$*! bark scorpions at bay. I honestly hope nobody EVER encounters one of those buggers. Just imagine sticking your foot into a fire and holding it there for 8 hours while your whole body twitches and someone electrocutes you... sorry a little off topic.

These are all between 12-16 months. As an experiment I cut the first 2 back a couple times starting when they were really little, just a couple sets of true leaves, to see how they developed. The last time they were pruned was about a month ago. I usually wait at least a year to trim them back and only prune once until they've really put on some size. All of these are short. The one that wasn't pruned is the tallest and is only about 4". Likely because it was severely neglected. I had forgotten about it and found it a few months ago in terrible shape, still in a shallow seed tray. Who knows how much water it received and it had never been fertilized. It's improved but appears stunted. The pruned ones are butt ugly now. I don't know if I'll like them any more later or not but I'll stick to the first pruning when they are older.

Thanks everyone: I've been busy, with some problems and pop in here an there. Rusty: Your impression was right but it's not Driftwood. The neck is a piece of hardwood branch that dried in my Shop for about 2 years. When I saw it was stable ( not spliting ) I carved the Swan's Body. I used a piece Tupelo Gum, from Louisiannnnna , for that. They are the trees you may see in a movie. They grow in the Swampland channels.(large Bell Bottom) It's not a hardwood, the Grain is not pronounced, almost like Balsa wood but harder. Hard to Carve, most of it has to be cut with a Bandsaw and shaped with grinding tools. I'll put in one more piece. Don't seem to be but a Handfull of Members interested. I don't want to make anymore waves. Not many Lifeguards, on Duty here. LOU Lou

well hey - then join the group (yeah - I can be a group all by myself!) and try something different! It'll be easier for you to repaint if you don't like t he neutrals than it will be for me to 'recounter'! cheaper also. but I figured I love my sister's granite and it's colorful and has movement even. so I'm thinking maybe it's time for me to go with a change too. I told her I'd think there were bugs on my counter and never know if it's clean or not. She said ' just wipe it down each day and figure it's CLEAN!' and I thought 'what an idea - that might work!' lol! it isn't like there's anyone else here to make a mess on it but me... if worse comes to worse in a few yrs I can probably replace it if I find it BUGS me. I'm planning to do a number of things different in my new place than I've done in the past and it's kind of exciting i think!! I've no one else to consider in it since i'm single and the kids are grown and gone now. Not that anything is really that far out or weird - just different for me. If I have to get a seam in the corner I hope those putting mine in do as nice a job as yours did cause i can't see yours in the pic. I'm gonna have to ask around in this area to find a good laminate person.

Oh WOW. LOU!!! That is absolutely exquisite. I LOVE the tiger stripe maple you used for the rifle. Where did you come by the wood for that?

It takes a lot of time, for the amount of members who are interested.
And it takes away from the Great Food Photo's and Recipes.
