It sounds like there's really not much to be done but to vent. That's a difficult situation. Moving is very stressful. I can't imagine doing it that often - I'd go crazy. You must be very strong and very devoted to your "one." When I'm focusing on the bad stuff, the only thing that helps me is to try to redirect my energy on to the things I'm grateful for. There's always something if you look around. Teaching is hard, moving is hard. relationships are hard, life is hard. I hope you're doing something fun just for yourself on a regular basis!

You & hubs need to sit down & lay your cards on the table.

While he's had his share of stress & uncertainty, you've been the good soldier & have sacrificed a lifestyle & financial security to support him.

Time for you to get some of the things that *you* want;
time with your own family, a stable home or nest, a job from which you can retire eventually...

At 60, the 2 of you need to be thinking in terms of stability & security.

Funny, the woman who introduced us, told me at our engagement party "you know, he (fiancé) has bad luck, and it rubs off on you."

Not that I am superstitious, but I am now clearly remembering that comment.

remember that song, "If I Were a Carpenter"?

The guy whines (demands) in a melancholy tone that, if he were on a lower social, economic, & educational scale & his girlfriend were on a much higher one, she would not only reduce circumstances to his level, but make herself subservient to him:
"If I were a carpenter & you were a lady, would you marry me anyway, would you have my baby?"

So she would no longer be able to move in her current circles;
she would be a woman with a child, dependent on a melancholy, self-absorbed guy who needs her to constantly *prove* to him that he's the best thing in her universe, better than all those guys with education & money & social standing similar to hers.

I always thought,
"well, if she agrees, what's he going to do in return? What's he going to do for *her*?"

I also wondered why he didn't ask instead,
"Would you get me some introductions to people you know in the construction industry so I can improve my life & give you a better life?"

"Bad luck" does rub off, but it doesn't *just* rub off;
it's at least partially the result of the focus, priorities, & mindset of the person who has the bad luck, & it does indeed bring down those in his/her orbit.

I sometimes wonder if there shouldn't be an 'everything-anon', like al-anon, to help families who get sucked into a relative's decaying orbit of whatever kind.

I can understand your dilemma.

Perhaps a better way to deal with this is to have a permanent home somewhere and hubbie just moves for work and you stay put. It really is an expensive exercise to move home so frequently.

It is good to vent, keep venting.

Ditto on the venting- this is a good place to do so.

Your post reminds me of my first husband - a wonderful guy, but an artist and...need I say more? After 11 years of my totally subverting my own life and plans to keep him in stuff, (no home, no kids, we couldn't afford them), I finally bit the bullet and left him. Great guy in every way, but he needed a rich mommy, not a woman like me. You only have one life.
