Steph and others with Cricut

How do you like them? How often do you use them? Do you use them for other than scrapbooks? How many cartridges do you have? Are there any you use a lot or any you bought and seldom use? Do you use vinyl paper? If so, where do you buy it from?

I guess you can tell I'm considering buying one. I still won't use it anytime soon. Except for a few, well, a lot of computer breaks, I do not want to be distracted from my cleaning, decluttering, organizing, painting regime since my retirement. I had allowed myself three months to clean and declutter. I'm pretty much on schedule with that, but deciding to paint all the walls and repair some of the woodwork that Luther damaged has added another 2 to 3 months before I play.

I will buy my system ahead of time whenever I find it on sale. Someone once said that Michael's will not honor a discount coupon with it. I don't know if that's so or not. I need to check on it. I also will buy the cartridges one at a time because they are so expensive.

I would appreciate any input from anyone who has any to offer.

Michael's will not honour the coupon because it is a ProvoCraft company. The cartridges are expensive but then so many of the die systems are not cheap. The Die cutting systems that attach to computers are another option as they are cheaper to use any fonts. Unfortunately those can't be taken easily to crops.

Someone told me that the newest cricuts will have the ability to connect to a computer so that you can use any TT font.

There is software for the Cricut called Design Studio. It allows you to combine and use templates from any cartridge you have. It does not allow you to use the TT fonts on your computer. The Cricut will only cut out designs on their cartridges. It is limited to using the cartridges that you have. Design Studio just lets you 'see' on your computer the contents of your cartridges and design things using something from each one if you want.
I use mine for tags and stickers and things like that. I like the Tags, Bags and Boxes cartridge. Provo has a message board for the cricut and there are people on there that have websites that sell the cartridges. I have never paid more than $40 for one. In the stores they are upwards of $55.
Steph has the Wishblade which does hook up to the computer and she can cut any font on her computer. It is way more expensive than the Cricut!

I started with the smaller Cricut when they first came out. I upgraded to the Cricut Expression when that came out (got it for a steal on black Friday at Walmart). Since then they have released the Cricut Make Machine. It does what the Expression does (larger cuts) only in the size of the orignal Cricut. I would highly suggest that one. It is MUCH more portable. I use it all the time to make bulletin boards and posters at work. I have done custom sign work of both business and homeowners. They have come down in price quite a bit. I really like the site ohmycrafts.com they are always having sales and coupons. Also eBay is a good source. If you can wait until Black Friday there are always good deals if that is something you like to do. My sisters are crazy for deals so they love to take my list and run on that day. As far as mats and needles. I can't tell you how long the mats last but it's a long time. Maybe 6-8 months (depending on the deep cuts) as long as you keep them clean you can re-sticky them with spray adhesive. The needles I have replaced maybe twice. I use my machine at least once a week if not everyday some weeks. There are some many tips and tricks out there on YouTube don't think that you can just do a certain few cuts on one cart there are hundreds on every cart. It may not be for everyone but I would think it would be a teachers dream! Any questions please feel free to ask!

Hi, thanks for asking. I'm doing good, but I'll be the first to say that I'm not a very good pregnant person. Other than feeling her kick and knowing the end result is a baby, I hate being pregnant. I'm 24 weeks today and already feel literally stretched to the max. I cant believe I have 16 more weeks of growing. Oh well, at least the weather is cooling down and that helps. Massive heat + pregnancy don't = fun for me!! As far as bedding is concerned, I went with this: I have white wainscoating on the walls like you see in this sample picture, and the upper half will be painted light pink. The furniture is dark like in this picture. My husband says its the Neopolitan room!

Actually, they're very easy to make, just time-consuming; look on Bakerella's site for lots of free ideas and inspiration. If you loved playing with play doh as a kid, you'll have no trouble with the fondant accents. And once the candy melts have hardened, it's just like coloring with markers. It all goes back to "everything you need in life, you learned in kindergarten", LOL.

Oh that would be cool! Sure would make it more useful!
Alot of people thought that is what Design Studio would do.

I dont have the Cricut, I have the Wishblade. It has to hook up to a computer to be used. There are cards you can buy that have designs and fonts but it will also cute any True Type font on the computer, which is why I bought it.

I dont use it for anything other than cutting letters for scrapbook pages, but it does a whole lot more. There are tons of other things it cuts too but I dont use it for that.

Thanks you all. Jenni ~ I'm glad to know there are some cartridges out there less that $89. I haven't done any serious shopping, but last night I did a google sarch on them and all the cartridges I saw were that price. That makes it much less painful.

There is a 3rd party program called "Sure Cuts A Lot" which lets you cut your True Type fonts with your Cricut
