Unless RainBird has come up with something I'm unfamiliar with, you should have several separate components: a pressure reduction device, a filter, and a backflow prevention device, which gives you several possibilities for leaks. All three must be aligned with the direction of water flow, and they should have an arrow on the side, indicating how they should be positioned. I surmise, from your description, that you have attached the pressure reduction device to the hose bib, and the leak is coming from the seam between the bib and device. You can confirm this by putting the other components aside, and attaching your hose directly to the reducer. If you still get the "squirting," between the reducer and the faucet, perhaps you have mismatched threads. Reducers come with both "hose" threads and "pipe" threads, the former being coarser. But now I think on it, perhaps you simply have an inadequate washer in the reducer. Remove the plastic washer with needle nose pliers, insert a quality rubber washer, and see what happens.

I'm a university professor and tend to over think these things! I seem unable to just happily follow the directions :) Understandable. But it reminds me of a current TV commercial that asks "you wouldn't trust your auto mechanic to clean your teeth so why would you ask your dentist about tires?" It is impossible for any of us to be fully informed specialists in all subjects. Sometimes, like it or not, we just have to accept that those who ARE specialists in their chosen field, be it astrophysics or food science, know what they are doing and trust in their information. :) Check with your local extension office about taking a MFP (Certified Master Food Preserver) course for starters. LOL......I got to thinking.........I hardly notice not having much hair there because my abdomen has fallen down and covers it! I can't see over it anymore! Shotzy.......sometimes I watch a little of Oprah, when she has that doctor on there, and a woman in the audience asked if good things also happened if you "had sex by yourself". Of course everyone laughed, but I was wondering the same thing! The doctor said that alot happens physically (biochemically, etc.) when we're touching another person and being intimate that I guess can't happen when we're alone. But......surely we might get SOME good from it??? :)
