This nugget was said to me by my friend, a philosopher disguised as a mail carrier. We were talking about work but I think it applies well to marriage and relationships. Your opinion?

"Deserve" is the most over-used word in the language, IMHO. The various -- and numerous -- ads using it are incredibly annoying. Predictable follow-on to whole self-esteem thing they've been shoving down our throats for a couple of decades, now.

I would agree with that statement.

I guess you "deserve" it because you don't do something to change it.

I have met lots of people who complain about their situations, but they are not really prepared to do the changes necessary to make their situation better.

Here is my experience of letting wet grass clippings sit in black plastic bags in the sun in hot weather. They get Hot! and so does the bag so be careful lifting them up to dump, It was hot enough to burn once! They also get stinky and slimy and perhaps breed some anaerobic bacteria. I wouldn't worry too much about all that if you don't mind the stink and slime then it isn't such a big deal. Heating in a bag might help some to kill weed seeds but I wouldn't expect it to do anything about fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. If you are worried about chemicals the gather grass clippings at your own risk. I don't use much chemicals personally but I am still willing to collect grass clippings for my compost. If you have been composting mainly with leaves before, you might be suprised to see how hot grass clippings can make a pile get. A big glob of wet grass clippings might not make really pleasant compost so I do my best to spread it out before covering with a layer of leaves or other carbon material. Just so you know, the strong smell is a sign that the nitrogen is escaping so it is good to mix with carbon material is the pile as soon as you can or you loose a little of the benefit of the grass clippings. If the smell starts to get like the bottom of a samp or pond muck, that is a sign that things have gotten anaerobic and you want to avoid that when you can. Experiment a bit and see how it goes. Composting doesn't need to be very complex. If it is not heating up, it needs more nitrogen or moisture needs adjusting. If it is smelly, it either needs more carbon or it is too wet. Starters, inoculants, soil, tumbling, and turning are not required. Only time and a mix of materials. Good luck with it.

Liketolearn.. You were correct..what goes around, comes around. I just had a long talk with my lawyer and he informed me why the homeowners are so intent on trying to coerce me into continuing to work on their house. As I already knew, building permits have a cutoff clause which states that if there is no progress on the project for a specified period of time the permits are cancelled. When the original project came to a halt I as the plumber and the masons and framers all attempted to collect for the work that we had done to date. Having failed to collect any monies for over a year we then filed mechanics leins against the property, not that a mechanics lein usually nets us anything but in this case it seems to be working in our favor. It seems that the county will not issue any further permits until the existing mechanics leins are satisfied however, if the homeowner can coerce the lein holders into continuing on the project the leins would automatically be waved on the grounds that we have negotiated an extension on the original contract. If we, the lein holders do not re-enter into an agreement with the homeowner they are left with no option but to pay us in full plus interest computed at the prime rate for all work previously performed plus they have to pay all attorneys fee's and court costs associated with the project before they can obtain permits to continue their house. It looks like I may collect monies that I had long since written off so even though my vacation will be delayed a bit in the end it should work out okay for me.

Thanks for all the advise. I'm choking on this decision so far. I sent DH a link to an article on Atticmag that Rococogurl posted about things to consider when picking a faucet....It covers height, reach etc. I'm letting him take the wheel for that part. Hopefully considering all those things he can narrow down some choices. I have only seen one working faucet in the displays (that I recall)....it was a Brizo Talo Touch2o. I liked it....alot. It was a little touchy, it came on a few times when I wasn't expecting it to, but it might be a learning curve. I didn't like the price though, and while it was really cool to be able to tap your elbow or forearm on the faucet to avoid getting chicken-y fingers etc. on the handles, my hubby is on the fence.....he is thinking it's a lot of extra money for something we have done without just fine before. Our latest trip to the plumbing store we were checking out some Delta's and the Sales person steered us over to the Grohe. Said they were having a fantastic sale on them (40% off retail) and they were a MUCH higher quality faucet than Delta. Looked online when we got home, seemed every site I visited had a deal on Grohe, so they must be clearing out old ones, or are one of those companies that over inflates their value to have them on sale all the time...... Looked at the Grohe Bridgeport (I think) but it didn't have a hold and lock feature on the spray. Not sure that's a big deal though. I'd buy that Talo or similar Brizo if I could find it on sale and if I could find more positive reviews. I keep reading they are not much better than Delta, just a beefed up price tag. I've read several people satisfied with their Delta's but read probably an equal amount of negative about them. Costco is out of the one Hansgrohe that I considered looking at.... Guess I will keep looking and considering.

Squirrel was very helpful to me about a month ago with a bathroom update...I have the cabinets primed, and paint determined, but we've had 2 deaths in our family since then, an out of town family wedding, and I can't forget the solid week of 2 kids with h1n1...And now I have my 81 year old father staying with us for 2 weeks. Then comes Thanksgiving with a boat load of company here...so I'm hoping by December to have the room done and will post pics then. So I haven't been purposefully neglectful ;) ...I just haven't had time to paint and be done! I will though...I am looking forward to it very much! And I promise to post pics when I'm done. Crossing fingers for Dec with no other chaos interfering!! I'll be back soon hopefully!

Spot on, Popi!

I think we see that here all the time, and I have to be honest and include myself in that category. It's like the old joke where the wanna-be actor is complaining how hard life is on the stage and somebody says why not choose a different profession, and he says "WHAT! And leave show business??!"

i have to agree in a way, sometimes i read things here all the time that sound just crazy, people stay in marriages that sound like a nightmare to me, but then I think well i put with some stuff that i shouldn't.

when it comes to work situation i disagree though, it doesn't apply here. i would put up with a lot of stuff because i have to pay my bills, and there are no other jobs in the area. i love my job but have to put up with a lot as probably everyone else.

with a relationship/marriage one does not need to be married, people can survive single. cannot live without job though.

I'll go with that revision. "Deserve" can be kind of a hot-button word.

And yet... aren't we told how you have to compromise and be patient in marriage? How you are supposed to give 110% and always put the best interests of the beloved before your own? "Love is patient, love is kind, etc. etc." from Corinthians is used very often in the marriage ceremony. I know it was in mine. So is that a recipe for disappointment?

If only one of you always gives and the other always takes,
then yes, it's a recipe for more than just disappointment.

As soon as I read your post, I had an image pop into my head. One of an abused woman, with no resources, who has no way of getting out of a bad marriage. Does she DESERVE to be used as a punching bag, simply because she has no place else to go? I don't think so.

Then there is the job situation someone referenced. In this economy, employers know that options are few and far between. Do the hardworking people trying to support their families DESERVE to take pay cuts or wage freezes? Certainly not all of them deserve that, but they have no other choices these days.

Does anyone deserve to have health issues? because they don't have the funds for treatment?

No, can't agree with that statement. The revision is certainly a little more realistic, but so often personal choice doesn't enter into the circumstances in which we find ourselves. The word deserve, though, is giving me real problems

exactly, I so agree. we have to take wage freeze and then pay cut, does it mean all of us deserve it? seriously now? every one of us deserves pay cut? and if we don't want to put up with it, what are the options? quit? really? and go where? I think only people who do not have to support themselves would have such naive thoughts.
