My mother had Alzheimers. You cannot diagnose dementia on a MRI. The diagnosis of dementia is a long set of many test before that can be determined. The only thing you can see on a MRI is brain shrinkage which MIGHT be linked to some memory loss.
As far as diagnosing MS I am not familiar with that diagnosis. I have a friend whose husband has MS and he is a very functional man. He is on a strict diet but does very well with MS. That is assuming that the results are in fact either brain disorder and that has not been determined.
When you speak to the doctor take his words as only a medical opinion. You can choose a different path physically with a positive mind. I would try and not jump to conclusions until you have more facts. I can imagine how hard this is, please try and hang in there. We are all sending positive thoughts your way.

One more thing...when my mother had even mild dementia she couldn't have articulated her words as you are on the computer. That right there eliminates dementia.

I'm sorry for they way they gave you that news. I have MS and I went through the MRI possible, but I also under went many other test before I was told it was MS. Please don't jump to conclusions on that piece of paper. Good thoughts coming your way.

Chiming in with 'good thoughts' & don't anticipate anything from reading reports!! My MIL did [former medical transcriptionist] and found out that her assumptions were totally wrong about where she was in her cancer healing.. Please! try not to worry -- maybe one thing to help you would be to start a list of questions to ask when you meet with your doctor.

That was just plain cruel to fax you that diagnosis. Take it with you to the doctor tomorrow. If that's his usual MO I'd think about a new doctor with more compassion. Many good thoughts for better news, Kathy.

I agree that it was very unproffesional for the results to be faxed to you at work.
However try not to panic(I know thats easier said than done),but I know of friends who have panicked,including myself when there was really no need to.

My husband has MS. He was diagnosed ten years ago through a spinal tap. He still functions pretty well. There are plenty of treatments available. Good luck. By the way, MS affects the brain and spinal cord and the "myelin" cover of the nerves. MS does not usually affect the "gray matter" of the brain, the part that is your intellect. My husband was diagnosed 12 yrs. ago through an MRI (MS). He's never had an episode but he did take Betaseron shots for a few yrs. My friend was also told she had MS through an MRI but all those white spots turned out to be nothing in her case. Truly, don't worry. Talk to your MD first and proceed with further testing. Only way to know for sure is through a spinal tap. There are many things that can be done if this turns out to be your case. Prayers....

Kathy, lots of good thoughts and prayers for you. I agree with the others. Who ever sent that to you at work, should be reprimanded. Don't be upset (easy for me to say huh?) until you talk to the Dr.

Sorry to hear your news. Hopefully someone can figure what, if anything, is wrong. I wouldn't worry too much about "possibilities" and, be sure to get second opinions if needed. Doctors can be very faillible when it comes diagnosing conditions that aren't black and white.

Second, I'm sure that fax is entirely in violation of all the new HIPPA rules and regulations. It could have mistakenly went to someone else, been read by someone other than you and certainly puts your privacy on the line. I would certainly find out from the office why and how this was done and discuss it with your physician.
