I made banana bread yesterday and I added pecans to mine. I used Glenda's recipe from a long time ago and it is very good. It freezes very well too. I have made it lots of times.

I'm planting tomatoes, onions, lettuce and radishes in my raised beds. I've given up having a large garden but can't resist planting a few of my favorites. That banana bread sounds sooo good, especially with black walnuts. Enjoy!

I've never had black walnuts. I know what they look like......those big black balls that squirrels love that are messy!!!

Tomorrow is my baking day, I'm making a lemon cake and a swiss chocolate cake for a party tomorrow nite. I already have the oatmeal cookies in the freezer that I made last weekend, to take as well.

Chocolate cookies with chocolate glaze topped with red sugar or valentine sprinkles. Pork roast is already in the crockpot. Might make some baking powder biscuits to go with it. High of 59 and windy.

Morning chores trying to get ready for a doctor's appointment today. Probably won't get much else done today. But at least today the sun is shining brightly and it is blue skies and the temp is supposed to get up in the 60's. That is a nice change.

I am not baking anything so I think I'll pass a big box around for generous donations from those of you that are.

I used to be able to get black walnut ice cream and loved it, but alas, haven't seen any for a lot of years.

I'm going to make Wild Rice Soup for the first time this afternoon. I had some in Minnesota last summer and decided I would make it. Hope it's a good recipe and we like it..

Daughter and friend will be here for supper right after they get their hair cuts up the street. Granddog is here for the day to entertain me. I fixed some taco style pasta salad last evening for this evening's meal so I would have more time to play with her. I just have to prepare the greens that go under that pasta salad this afternoon. A peanut butter cup pie that I got from Market Day is thawing for dessert.

That nasty storm that is coming up the East coast wasn't supposed to reach here, but it is snowing, about an inch of the new stuff out there now.

I've been for my run and now I'm here and watching the men's short program on the Olympics. When that's finished I have a major grocery shopping to do. Right now it's dry but that is just a foreshadowing of yet another major rain storm coming this afternoon. This will be the third storm this week but they've all happened at night which is nice.

I was going to bake Glenda''s banana bread today. Yesterday I took the very ripe bananas out of the freezer and mashed them, but that's as far as I got.

Today I woke up with the urge to finish cleaning and decluttering closets and dressers. And you know when that urge happens, you'd better go with it! I'm happy to say I got both the walk-in closets cleaned out nicely. I had three piles going--keep, throw out and donate. Right now the bed in the guest room is loaded, but the closet sure looks nice:-)

So tomorrow banana bread and possible Jasdips oatmeal cookies. They look and sound so good. I put English walnuts in my banana bread. Wish I had some black walnuts!!

I need a nap--worked pretty solid all morning.

Had about 2 inches of fluffy white stuff last night but the roads are good! Temp a minus 3, but no wind and sun is out with some clouds. More snow coming In with some Alberta clippers. Sending good thoughts to all those who are getting blasted with the weather. Stay warm and my good thoughts are with you all.

I've got a cherry pie in the oven..

It is supposed to be in the upper 30s today, so I plan to take Cooper, my dog, for a walk around the frozen lake. First day this month that it has been above freezing. Today or tomorrow I will bake a Valentine's cake for precious Finn. I am watching him tomorrow night while his parents go to dinner to celebrate his Mom's birthday.

No cooking, but I just had a cup of Bruster's Chocolate Lovers Trash!

Looks like we are all in good company. Mine is from a recipe I have had forever.... and I add sliced almonds.

One and a half small loaf already eaten... and one is saved for
Sundays bike ride, and thus, in the freezer. :)

P.S. Be careful in getting the husks off of the nuts, however, as they produce a dark brown stain that's difficult to get rid of on everything that they touch ...

... great for dyeing, though!

Arrange the nuts as they come from the tree in a couple of piles, at a certain distance apart ...

... and drive the car over them, several times.

That works for cutting the volume of emptied pop cans prior to recycling, as well.

I am making puppy chow or muddie buddies. When I make banana bread I put chocolate chips in it. I love it like that. I eat very few things with nuts in it including brownies. The last time I made banana bread, my bananas weren't ripe enough. I googled how to ripen them faster and it said to put them in a 300 oven until they turned black. It didn't take very long and it is supposed to make them sweeter. It worked very well for me.

I love banana bread, though I haven't made it in a long time. It's funny (odd), but I cannot like black walnuts! I think that it's the only nut that I don't like. When I make banana bread, I'll add pecans or English walnuts.
