Shower scum - ugh! My first apartment had sliding glass shower doors. When the rental agent took me through the apartment I thought the doors were frosted. Then I moved in and started cleaning everything. Imagine my disgust when I discovered that the doors weren't frosted - it was just covered with soap scum. As I scoured the doors I also discovered there was a frosted swan beneath all the scum.

Yes...Mr clean Magic Eraser is WONDERFUL! I use it in my shower, also. It is easy and no fumes or bad smell. I am a convert! But, I think the little bits of gray crumbs you were seeing was, in fact, parts of Mr. Clean. I find that they can hold up for several diff cleaning jobs but they don't last much longer. They leave little bits of sponge with every job. But, it's worth it.

The crumbs ARE the "sponge" itself, as Sooey says.
They may be taking the scum along with them, but the eraser really is disintegrating. (Which was probably a nice surprise for the manufacturer to learn -- you need to keep replacing them!)

The sponge is a lightly abrasive "foam" form of melamine (which some say is bad but Snopes says not). There's no "cleaner" in the sponge, it's just acting like fine sandpaper to clean whatever you're trying to get rid of. So just be careful what you use it on -- I'm not sure I'd use it on any non-white metal appliances, and although it was recommended for getting a mark off a painted wall, that will be my 2nd-to-last option (before repainting!).

I tried it in my shower after having heard great things about it...but it did nothing at all to clean my shower. I was very disappointed.

I personally think that the Magic Erasers are one of the best ideas in the last decade, as far as cleaning goes...(I was so impressed with the scrubbing bubbles for cleaning mini blinds...)
I have used the erasers on whiteboards that got marked on with permanent markers, refrigerator handles that get disgusting with 3 men and a couple grandsons in and out, Step 2 toy box bookshelf that had been in the shed for a couple months, grunge on cabinet doors, pots and pans, light switches, front door, back door.....I use it at least 3x a week on something!
Most of all to my surprise, we bought a used car that needed a LOT of TLC a couple years ago....looked like someone had skimmed the fenders and bumpers on wet paint, (white paint on a red car). To my amazement, it came off without a hitch! I also used it on the leather seats, dash and steering wheel. A couple years before that, the white car had brushed the tractor fender and I used it to remove the red paint from a white car! GO MAGIC ERASERS!!

Love these things. For all of the above, plus cleaning tennis shoes.

For a cheaper eraser, go to eBay and but Melamine Foam..same stuff, just a LOT cheaper!!

Ya want to know what else cleans great? Baby wipes. Yes....those litte cloths they use on baby butts. It gets crayon off walls and table tops. Ya know the black "grime" that can build up on door jams or around light switches where hands are constantly touching? Get's it off. Black shoe marks on floors. In fact, many things you might use a magic eraser for.

How do I know this? I work in a child care center, and believe me, we get a lot of crayons on table tops, and dirty little hands. We also have baby wipes around. I bought my own package at the dollar store...works just as well as the more expensive brands.

No fumes, not toxic to kids or pets, and an added bonus..it smells nice :)

I was just so happy at how smooth and clean my shower was. I really dont think the chemicals worked better at all.

I was reading a cleaning thread about removing soap scum and someone said that put Dawn on a Mr. Clean MES and it removed all the scum and build up fantastically. I tell ya, I've been using some homemade cleaners that I've been finding on Pinterest.com and Dawn is used a lot, I never knew how great Dawn is. OH and for cleaning your eye glasses and jewelry...wow...On glasses you just wash it off with warm water and dry with a glass cleaning microfiber cloth and your glasses are clear as GLASS(should be)...HA!

and good old barkeepers friend...i'm good about using the self spray cleaners but have a chair in my shower and the rubbber leg guards had left some marks...used a sprinkling of bk, and the broom and bam! no leaning over, either...it also took some yellow out of my vanity top...from one of the cleaners i'd used...

My mother was a terrible smoker. After she died, everything in her house was found to be coated with brown cigarette stains. Even some white 1950's formica-topped furniture. My sis took the furniture and cleaned all the yellow/brown stains with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. I couldn't believe the difference!
