WOW! Has this ever been a week that needs forgotten!

Hi, I'm new to this forum, Thanks for any help you can give me!! I feel like I found a new Family!!

A week ago Saturday my perimenopause symptoms came crashing in, I would have never thought they would come on so suddenly. To top it off my whole family DH 2 kids (9 & 3) and I had some kind of stomach virus!!

Let me also say misery does love company, because everytime I left my home I would look around at people and see if they looked "tired and moody" like I was.. LOL

I had NO IDEA what was going on with me until this past Saturday when I couldn't stand the sleepless nights and "not feeling like myself" any longer, I went to a Dr. and He said I'am perimenopausal, Believe me I don't like the idea but at least it explain's everything that is going on with me from not being able to go to sleep,the mood swings, the joint pain in my elbows and wrists when I'm trying to get to sleep, I have to constantly change positions, so frusturation

OK, You all get my point! Anyway, I just found you guys last night and I have learned so much already THANKS so much! I woke up at about 3:00 and couldn't go back to sleep.

I"M SO TIRED!! PLEASE HELP ME SLEEP!!

I'm almost 41 and I'm not going to take the Zoloft or the sleeping pills the Dr. perscribed, I didn't fill the perscriptions, Thank goodness because the Dr. didn't say Zoloft was a Anti~depressant he just said that what he was perscribing effects the right side of the brain that controls mood swings, sounds good huh?? He perscribed me 25mg but he said a normal dose is 150mg, so I didn't need much, It would just help with my mood swings. Then I got home and researched it and found out it's a anti~depessant, I'm not depressed.

So what I'm hoping is for some advice on natural things I can do for sleep, I just can't get my mind to go to that sleepy place~~I really can handle everything else now that I know what it is, It was the not knowing that was scary,

the deep breathing helps alot but at night when I'm trying to get to sleep, I snap awake, it's like I'm happy that I'm almost asleep and I'm making myself aware of it~~do you understand? I have a hard time understanding myself, lol

I read some of you like the natural Progresterone cream, so I want to try that after I talk to a new GYN on Thursday, I have a male right now and I think I need a female so she will understand what I'm going through..

Is there any side effects with the cream??

I really just need some sleep!

Whooo boy! :o) What fun! There are side affects... if you use too much, you turn into an eating machine. BUT with the cream, the amount you use is adjustable...but you have to use it for a week before it's effective. Until then, I recommend lemon balm, made into a tea. Knocks me out. Also I recommend reading SusUN Weed... you can google SusAN Weed, but it's spelled Susun.... anyway, she writes a lot about living with menopause if you like her sort of way of thinking.
There are other herbs and soy to think of too... not everything works for everyone, experimenting is a good thing. The problem is, nothing herbal seems to work overnight, unfortunately, so you have to give it time.

Please listen to your doctor or at least look into the medication a bit further. Some antidepressants are used at different dosages to treat other symptoms--they are only truly antidepressants at the higher dosages. They get a bad rap because most people only learn about the side effects that mostly occur at the higher dosages.

Here's info about Zoloft from PDRHealth.net (patient/consumer wing of the Physician's Desk Reference online):

Recommended dosage for Zoloft

ADULTS

Depression or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

The usual starting dose is 50 milligrams once a day, taken either in the morning or in the evening. The doctor may increase your dose depending upon your response. The maximum dose is 200 milligrams in a day.

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder

Doses may be prescribed throughout the menstrual cycle or limited to the 2 weeks preceding menstruation. The starting dose is 50 milligrams a day. If this proves insufficient, the doctor will increase the dose in 50-milligram steps at the start of each new menstrual cycle up to a maximum of 100 milligrams per day in the 2-week regimen or 150 milligrams per day in the full-cycle regimen. (During the first 3 days of the 2-week regimen, doses are always limited to 50 milligrams.)

Panic Disorder, Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, and Social Anxiety Disorder

During the first week, the usual dose is 25 milligrams once a day. After that, the dose increases to 50 milligrams once a day. Depending on your response, you're the doctor may continue to increase your dose up to a maximum of 200 milligrams a day.

Dry all last year and the beginning of this year (except for a 2ft snowstorm in Feb) until the last week of May when we got a month's worth of rain in 1 week. Alternating cold(30's) then hot (90) then cold (40's) temps in May and June, finally got tomatoes out the beginning of June and MORE rain! Poured for about 20 minutes at dinner last night, weather.com is showing 0 inches but I'm guessing 1/4". More gentle rain overnight, clear this morning and then this afternoon another T-storm. So I'm saying 7.5 -8" this month plus the 3.5" last week of May. Tomatoes are looking sad - I started replacing some yesterday and also planted 6 I'd been holding back. Haven't checked today to see how they've held up in the driving rain (had a couple broken last week). Peppers are still in 6-packs, I guess I can say they're hardened off though they may sunburn when I can get them out, 1 is blooming. Squash looks like it's loving this weather, cukes OK (seeded before squash and they're smaller), spinach is bolting and the kale and Asian greens are just OK. I guess I'll try to harvest mustard greens, tatsoi and bok choy for stirfry mix rather than salad greens since lettuce is so far behind. Carrots are disappearing, lettuce is barely coming in after seeding twice (every time I seed we have a downpour) but the arugula in the mix is getting tall (not bolting yet). Radish bulbs are finally starting to show above the ground 3 weeks after seeding and I don't know what's happened to my chard and beets that I've seeded twice. Beans are doing OK, but I lost 2/3 of my edamame. The only thing I'm harvesting right now that is doing really well is strawberries and they're coming to an end just as market season is beginning. Blueberries and brambles are coming along though.

This is a sore subject around here right now! I am the one that packs clothing for me, my youngest daughter and check that the older one has her list. I also pack all of the food, anything related to cooking, utensils, sleeping bags, bedding, etc. So, what is my husband responsible for? The trailer. Well, last week when we went camping we arrived in the cold pouring rain. I picked a site off in the woods a bit and not real close to the bath house because I knew I had a porta potty. What do you think was forgotten? Well, the excuse was that I didn't put it on the list for him! My response is why do I have to? It goes with the popup! I was really ticked off! I know these things happen but why is it my responsibility to remember every single thing we take? So, I told him the next time he is packing EVERYTHING! In fact, I would be safer to not camp with him! Maybe I'll tent camp next to him and see how often he needs to come to borrow things! Okay. I'll stop now. He's forgiven this time. On my first solo trip I forgot silverware and cooking utensils. That was fun! I also not thinking left a box of cereal on the picnic table overnight. It was gone the next morning without a trace. I can only guess a raccoon thought he hit the jackpot and took off with it! My husband always forgets his toothbrush and toothpaste unless I remind him. Oh yeah. I was going to stop! Just call me a NAG!

I probably should be "fitted"- mine are QUITE different in sizes. Get a bra to fit one side and the other billows over the fabric vs. fitting the larger one and I can almost put a pair of socks in the other! LOL Went to a new MD for an annual exam and he asked me "have they always been THAT different". Yep, at least since my late teens! I HATE looking for bras! and refuse to wear underwires!!!!!

remodelqueen - I soooo agree with you! My brother was ready to re-do my entire kitchen plan on what "he" wants in his kitchen remodel...claiming that he "knows" what look I am going for & HE has already had it & it would be better if I scrap it & do something completly different... huh? Budget? Oh, is that what we were supposed to do? ;-) Actually DH & I are quite stubborn when it comes to something we want. What usually ends up happening is we find a way to get it cheaper (did some labor ourselves, bought some scratch & dent items/clearance ~with a 4yr warranty...you get the idea) or we do without until we can find a way to get what we want. This board has been a GREAT resource. I returned a double oven that was sitting in my living room for a month after reading some reviews of loud & long fan times & other issues. I returned a sink for another (it was actually cheaper~gasp!) after seeing one on here I had never heard of before. I was very careful selecting our (prefab) granite after reading things here. I was thrilled when I actually found a couple with some movement in them! I never would have thought to tell the granite guy what to do without having seen what I like on this board. Yeah, the granite was a bit of an upgrade in pattern, but the overall price was only a couple $100 more...not a lot in the grand scheme of life. We may have gone overboard on the appliances. I will admit that. DH fell in love with a fridge (42" counter depth) that fits beautifully in the kitchen. Did we "need" it? Probably not. But he really loves it. I have NEVER seen him break out a rag & clean something so often before ;-) So, in some respects we were "good" with a budget...on others, well, we agreed to sacrifice other expeditures for a while to get what we really loved. "Forgotten" the budget? No... I just try not to think about it right now! LOL!
