First of all, you must read the membership account agreements very closely. Per their rules, on many sites the mere act of posting a photo places it in "Public Domain". As a rule I watermark all my photos before printing them or posting them online, even if I only intend to put the photo in my personal album. While on the subject of Personal Albums, whenever I take a series of shots at some point of interest I generally select one shot which is the title page for the grouping. I then add a title that indicates where the photo and/or group of photos was taken, and quite often I add captions. By example, I am attaching a photo of me that was actually taken by my GF while she and I were on an outing to a local wild game farm. I use PHOTOSCAPE, a free download from Google to add the text. While PHOTOSCAPE is primarily a very powerful, user friendly photo editing program I find adding text to be almost a no-brainer. To add text you open the photo in the editor, click the button for "Objects" and a box will appear where you type in the text you want to add, then you select the type of font and the color of the font. There is a box there to select the font size, but i generally ignore that because as you type the font it will show up in the center of your print outlined by a dotted line box with little arrows on the corners. If you click and drag the arrows you can drag the text to whatever size you want on the print. You then click and drag the text box to where you want to place it, and you can even rotate the text 360 degrees for special effect or to slightly slant your watermark. To get Photoscape just put the name photoscape in the search bar on your web browser home page and it will refer you to a free download site. I might add that even though this is a free download, it is a full lifetime version, not one of those annoying trials with the incessant pop ups reminding you to buy the program. In fact, it is entirely free of spam or popups, period. The only thing I would caution is, make sure you are getting the download directly from Google as others may use it to entice you to sign up for their pop up & spam nonsense.

I apologize for posting so much... but I have been researching this since the thread started. There is a lot of misinformation on the web on this topic. I am not a lawyer, but this is what I have learned: Clearly, copyright infringement is illegal. This means anything you copy without permission is wrong and you can get in trouble legally. However, hotlinking is NOT illegal as you aren't making a copy. Several sites out there say it is, but they are wrong. Refer to this court case that addressed this subject: "In the 2007 case of Perfect 10, Inc. v. Amazon.com, Inc., the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled that hotlinking ("in-line linking") as used by Google did not violate copyright law. Specifically, the court stated: Because Google's computers do not store the photographic images, Google does not have a copy of the images for purposes of the Copyright Act. In other words, Google does not have any "material objects in which a work is fixed and from which the work can be perceived, reproduced, or otherwise communicated" and thus cannot communicate a copy. Instead of communicating a copy of the image, Google provides HTML instructions that direct a user's browser to a website publisher's computer that stores the full-size photographic image. Providing these HTML instructions is not equivalent to showing a copy. First, the HTML instructions are lines of text, not a photographic image. Second, HTML instructions do not themselves cause infringing images to appear on the user's computer screen. The HTML merely gives the address of the image to the user's browser. The browser then interacts with the computer that stores the infringing image. It is this interaction that causes an infringing image to appear on the user's computer screen." While hotlinking is legal, it is frowned upon by some people/groups. If you have to choose between copyright infringement and hotlinking, choose hotlinking. Some of the small guys might have bandwidth issues if their images are used enough.... if you google the topic, there are certainly bloggers bothered by it. I imagine that isn't without reason. However, there is coding that helps them block the ability for people to hotlink, to post to pinterest, etc. If they care enough, they can take precautions to stop it from happening. Your tile looks great. If it was my kitchen I would not tile above the window. If you could replace that can light above the sink with some type of slightly blingy rectangular or oval semi flush mount light that might look nice. Here are just a few random ones I found (sorry if the pictures are too big). I'm sure other GWers could come up with more options If you didn't want to do a light fixture some horizontal art work piece could be put in the space.

Ah, photos. I've never been good at organizing my own which ended up stuffed in lots of cardboard boxes-many still in the photo envelopes from back in the day when you got em printed at Walgreens or CVS. I also took all of the photo albums and loose photos when we cleared my MIL's house. And last year when my dad died I took HIS photos when we cleared the house. I've started going through them and as others have done, I was pretty clear about dumping certain categories. I do not save vacation pictures, or pictures of friends and friend gatherings. For some reason my MIL was extremely fond of taking pictures of rooms and household objects she had-gone. I took pictures out of albums and then loosely started organizing them in photo boxes, usually grouped by families and/or individuals. I use Shutterfly to make photo albums and I do enjoy that process. I made one of my BIL's life in pictures for what turned out to be his last Christmas, and he was very moved by seeing a lot of images that he'd not viewed in many years. Have done an album for my son in law of baby/childhood pictures of my daughter, which he also seemed to like. Still want to do my son's equivalent for my DIL--they dealt with infertility for several years so I didn't know if she would want to see lots of baby pictures but now they've had their daughter so I will probably do that for Christmas. I do struggle with discarding pictures of my kids; it's just so damn difficult to throw away their images, even the ones that are blurry or not well composed. I'm not generally very sentimental but photos are an exception, I am so reluctant to see entire batches of family images tossed out. And at least unlike furniture or other large objects they don't take up huge amounts of space!
