I have a mammo every year but how often do you have your paps? Interested in those over 55 yrs old and how often they go.

Annual since I was 23. I'm 52 now.

I think it is annually unless you have had a hysterectomy.

The edges of these are very frilly, which is not as conspicuous by the frontal view though (the vivid color-contrasts distract from this property) My precious GirlFriend was so kind, to hold a Vase with two Scapes of "Ambiance" next to the flower, for comparison. Everybody draw their own conclusion, as to why - what purpose for - I purchased cutflowers of particularly this! Cultivar, right now. I shall keep the message coming.

Thank you Maria! I am uncertain as how the flower size (17-19 cm diameter) should be "judged" Papilio hybrids will generally not produce the biggest florets. The biggest flowers I saw was from a bulblet of "Ambiance", when it bloomed in the 3rd Season. - H,papilio BULBS definitely go through an aging process. The biggest flowers being produced by "just matured" bulblets in the 2nd or 3rd Year after Maiden flower. The same applies for "Ambiance" and to a degree for "PapDon1"too, while "PapDon2" which grows slower, ages also, slower. The Lifetime of the flowers is not the longest. The Florets are slightly inclined downwards, and I assume that THIS property would be fatal IF it came to the consideration of "commercial propagation".Oh, and maximum count of flowers, had been on the very first scape of the seedling bulb: 5 Florets.

The one Papilio I got in January put out 3 lanky leaves as soon as I potted it up semi-hydro style. It has been outside all summer, and I've pretty much ignored it until last week when I noticed that 4 more leaves were peaking out. The bulb has also bulked up a bit and a little digging revealed an offset. Now if it would just bloom already...

Ashley, nice to hear from you again..those seeds you sent me are still growing, maybe in a few years I'll be posting pictures of YOUR crosses!! Joe, But of course....!! Haven't used any yet, it's in the fridge and there wasn't really much pollen at all.. My original Exotic Star is sleeping and I had it planted outside in a barrel so it won't have any roots this season so..I bought another one a few days ago. When it blooms I might try the same cross again, but, I WON'T keep any of the seeds. I'll offer them up if anyone wants to give them a try. The only thing is that I notice that this year's Exotic Stars seem to be lighter in color than my original one was..less pink. And, on an unrooted bulb she may not set seeds so easily. But, I might give it a try anyway just to see if the same cross will take again. I've got a few Fairy Tale x Lemon Star (or the other way around) that look like they might big enough to bloom..I'm hoping before the winter is over one will send up a scape! Not really an exciting cross though but, you never know....Stay tuned..... Donna

I know they say it is every year and I have been going every year but I had read some time ago that if you don't have any probs that every 2 years would be ok. Just wanting to know if other go less than every year.

I don't remember what I have read, but there is something to what you are saying. No problems may be one thing, and no sex at all may also be a factor. Even without a Pap smear, they have to check the rest of the plumbing, so they might as well just check it out, I guess. I'm going to start a new post that sort of relates to this.

the thing about pap smears is its a game of chance and statistics - a pap smear has a 5% to 30% chance of a false negative result (thats missing abnormal cells ) - so if you go once a year then statistically you are reducing the chances of getting a false positive (ie. 3 consecutive tests in a row are highly unlikely to be false positives)

My experience is that the doctors say every year. The insurance companies say every 2 years. Hmmm.....

What is so discouraging is a pap smear will only show cancer of the cervex. It does not show any other type. I even had a vaginal ultrasound on the 8th of August and it did not pick up this cancer. I just don't get what good they are if they can't detect much. Very costly also.

However, that being said I do believe every year an exam is in order. Without it nothing could be caught.
