YAY! It's McCloud's day to cook

I love it when this day rolls around. He's a very good cook and knows his way around the kitchen. Plus, he is even conscious of his presentation. I like that about him. LOL We share cooking alot, but recently, seems I've been on kitchen duty. So, I told him yesterday that he better start planning his meals because he was on KP duty all day. :)

Oops, gotta go. Breakfast is ready. *cheesy grin*

Nope, not at all. I am chief cook and bottle washer!
This man can barely nuke something. He isn't intrested in learning anything new either!

So whats on the menu today Summer!?

Not sure Connie. He's very secretive about his menu. LOL I just washed downed bacon, eggs, buscuit and jam with a cold glass of milk though. He's off to a good start. :)

Yep. As soon as they emerge you should remove any humidity device(dome, plastic wrap, etc.) and put them under some CFL's (shoplights are most common) about an inch away from leaves for about 12-18 hours per day. You should also make sure they have ventilation. Some people set up a small fan. As far as watering, during the 1st stages of developing a couple sets of true leaves, watch for the top of the soil and check. If dry, then use a spray bottle to just mist it a few sprays.. Do the "bone dry" watering thing after they get established some. I prefer to do this by watering from the bottom. i.e., setting container in a larger container with about an inch or so of water. Yeah, I've heard the cooking of Scandanavia is pretty good. I did some investigating two years ago when I got invited to a scandanavian pot luck! I brought blue cheese spread on rye krisp, and potato-beet salad, yum! Those nectarines sound divine. My mom used to make us grilled peaches for dessert when I was a kid, sounds similar. I could even add a sprinkle of cardamom, which I love. Or make this recipe for cardamom cookies that I have and have never tried. Grilled nectarines in a little glass dish with a cardamom cookie on the side, sounds very elegant. I was toying with making the peach-raspberry pie that I love, but that seemed too rich. I love to make it though, I throw together a bag of frozen raspberries, a bag of frozen peaches, a glop of brown sugar, a dash of cinnamon, dot with butter and then use a pre-made crust. "Homeade pie" that always gets me raves at potlucks, all in about 10 min. to prepare. Those mushrooms sound awesome Lars, thanks! It will give me a chance to use up some of the basil I froze last summer.

ROTFL!!! Donka, all I can say is "Giddayup". I need to clean out the fridge, so I'm going to make soup base for the freezer with the turkey carcass, leeks, rutabega and carrots. I got some lasagna noodles, so I'm going to slice up some yellow squash that needs using, and the fennel bulbs I just got, and whatever peppers I have, and oven roast them, to layer with the ricotta. I have a little tzimmis left which I think I'll puree into the ricotta. I got some shallots, too. And I got some lamb shanks to braise with baby carrots and pearl onions and leftover sweetish red wine. And a chicken. It's a really big chicken. They tried to tell me it was a fryer, but it's 4.5 lbs.!! I think I'll roast it with the heels of my multigrain bread if it's not gone moldy, and an orange. I can try out the probe because I have no idea (other than the butcher's recommendation) how long to cook this big a not turkey. JRueter, I'm in Gelsonsland, so it has to be an amazing farmer's market to be really tempting. And yes, some of them are more about the social thing than cooking! The worst is being at a dinner party where the hosts are name dropping the truck farmers like they're best friends rather than customers. Needs, keep us posted!!! I'm keeping a good thought for Thursday!

Pot filler yay or nay?

We don't have one, but I can think of another reason to have one. I believe that the water flow from a pot filler is greater than from a regular faucet that is compliant with water-saving regulations. If I am correct about that, I would guess that the reason that the pot filler has a greater flow is that it is assumed that the water won't be wasted because it all goes into a vessel, versus a sink faucet where the running water runs right down the drain, so less flow equals less wasted water. My Waterstone sink faucet is made in California and complies with its code. While I have gotten used to the lower flow for the most part, it would be nice to be able to fill a pot more quickly.

Oh that sounds goooood! Tell him I'd love a plate and I like my eggs scrambled! LOL Food always tastes better when someone else cooks it! At least thats what I think! :)

Hmmm sounds good Summer! I've eaten your cooking and McLeod has to be pretty good to make it to your level of expertise!

Jammer is a great cook. He is one of the older of 13 children and helped his Mom alot. So he can do just about anything around the house. He uses lots of spices in his meals and my kids and I love that! The only problem is that after being used to cooking for so many, he has a hard time cooking for just 2 or 3 people. We do have lots of left overs when he cooks. *S*

Main Man is a kitchen piddler. If he is gonna cook....you better eat a little something to hold you over. A simple meal takes him 3 hours. Seriously...3 hours. Our BF's go crazy when we are on a RV trip and he "volunteers" for breakfast duty. We go for a long boat ride while we wait for a meal.

You are very lucky that he likes to cook and will cook. I guess he did get lots of experience being the oldest. Good for Mom for teaching him.

Connie, would you like that scramble with a little minced onion and bell pepper or just plain? :)

Thanks Glender, he could use an apron for sure. I'll be having to use a lot of Spray 'n Wash when this day is over. LOL

Don't rush the cook Gayle. :) But good idea on a snack or two before his main meal gets served.

No, DH does not do cooking for him and I. I am the kitchen B**ch 24/7,
I would be afriad to eat anything he cooked anyhow!!!

My man can cook but only on the highest heat possible.
There are grease splatter patterns on my kitchen ceiling.
He only cooks enough for him....true story.
He will, god bless his little heart, gather up his dishes but before you give him too many accolades, this chores consists of pushing everything across the counter towards the sink.

LOL

Want to know what is the most amazing about all this?
We don't even fight about it.
It's just not worth the effort....LOL

My DH does most of the cooking these days,and whats even better he washes up his dishes and things as he goes,so after we finish eating there's very little left for me to do in clean-up.

He started out by shopping QVC and buying all this kitchen stuff.i told him to knock it off as we 1.didn't need it. 2,i didn't want it,as i really had no more kitchen space.and 3. i didn't cook that much anymore,just the 2 of us,and he'd always run out midday to subway for a sandwich and by the time i was ready to cook he wasn't hungry.So i just said you're on your own,i'm not coking if you're not gonna eat as i can always find something for myself.

About that time he got hooked on all those cooking shows,and started going on the internet for recipes,and then started making them.After a couple of weeks of this i said to him,i think you're liking this chef role,i know i am,so having said that,i oficially turn the kitchen over to you for cooking.We both laughed and he's been at it ever since.

He does only do dinner,and that's fine with me.We also get to try a lot of new things.

This all works great for me as i never liked to cook,and only did it because i had to,now i no longer have to.and i'm loving it.

DH sometimes takes over cooking on weekends to give me a break. Which I greatly appreciate. My 22 year-old DS and our 13 y/o DGS eat a LOT of food. As in yesterday, I made an 8 quart soup pot of chili. Most of it was gone by the time DH came home from work. (DH and I call them PIGS when they are not around to hear). The chili was in addtion to sandwiches and snack. Funny thing, neither of the guys is overweight.

DH has become quite a good cook. Several years ago, he used to have supper ready when I walked in the door and he was headed out to work. Some of those dishes were - well, yucky. Like Mac & cheese with hot dogs - I hate cheap hot dogs but the kids loved them. I'd wait til he left for work, them pick out the hot dogs and give them to the dog. Or Mac & cheese with cream of mushroom soup in it. (I doused it with a lot of ketchup to cover up the taste and not to hurt his feelings)

Now he makes yummy stuff like crab & shrimp manicotti alfredo, bruschetta, etc.

Yikes Lori. I thought when you mentioned Custer could only cook on the highest heat possible, I figured you meant the charcoal grill. LOL Grease on the ceiling, he is a menace. LOLOL....

Sounds like all of those cooking utensil purchases and recipe searching is really paying off Kathy.

Wow, he has expanded his cooking repertoire dirtyfingernails. LOL I don't do cheap hot dogs either. They have to be Oscar Mayer. LOL
