On My Walk This Morning........

I saw a few snowflakes, but I also saw the grass emerging from under the 2 feet of snow we had gotten last week. I heard the birds starting their day. They seem a little more urgent to me now. They are getting down to the business of spring, I think. What did you hear and see?

Actually, I heard nothing; not a sound, not a bird anywhere.

We were completely fogged in; a white-out.

It has mostly cleared up now and I can see across the street, and a few birds are flitting around.

Hurry, Spring!

I see green grass at the moment, but snow may be on its way. Hope not.

My Saturday morning stroll was wonderful - I enjoy the flowers around my deck and parking area everyday but don't walk down to what I call "the bottom garden" everyday so Sat. was special - a beautiful day to be in God's world - thyme was covered with blooms, running rose getting ready to bloom, a great new variety of lavender blooming its heart out, feverfew sporting a few blooms, yarrow etc. - birds singing- I sat in the swing with a cup of coffee and just enjoyed!!

We have a balcony that is northwest facing. I have successfully grown herbs for the past several years here in this way: The sun first lands on our balcony around 12noon. As it moves across (ending at around 5-ish pm) I move the containers so that they are constantly in the sun all that time. I know, it sounds insane! But I'm a SAHM and we're usually around to do that. :) Good luck.

These are all hardy Geraniums and will survive winters far harder than a single hard freeze. They would not be expected bloom between now and fall planting. They bloom in late Spring/Summer. Just watch and wait and they'll be up and flourishing in the Spring. No need to water in Winter unless your ground is absolutely parched. I can't comment on whether they'll need watering in Summer as I don't know your climate. Certainly in mine once planted and watered in they'd never be watered again.

I love this time of year when the birdies really start singing. You just know they are as excited about spring as we are! We have had a string of really nice days, temp in the mid 30's, but back to cold 20 degrees now. Haven't gone out yet, but take the doggies out everyday.
