How was your Garden Walk this morning

I just came in from my morning stroll in the garden. Sat a while with my coffee and enjoyed the flowers. Roses are three feet high and in full bloom. (can't you just smell that Blue One?) The newly planted Don Jaun is already reaching for the sky. Lantana are covered with butterflies and the Plumbago is lovely. Red birds feeding their young and the baby C. Wrens are flitting around under the feeders. The Gingers are at last wakeing up from their winter nap, AND WE NOW HAVE TO LEAVE ALL THIS TO GO BACK TO MICHIGAN FOR THE SUMMER. I surely understand why so many of us snow birds decide to stay here in your wonderful State of Alabama. Good summer to you all and happy gardening. Wanna B

Sorry you have to leave and head back north - not that there is anything wrong with Michigan - but I have a friend who left up there to live here - and loves it here year round. I hate that you have to leave just as gardening weather is kicking in here. Have a good summer....i am fixing to head out to mine myself, now that i am awake. I needed beauty sleep!

Wannab sorry you are leaving.

My morning walk was great. For the first time in a week there was no sign of an armadillo digging in my beds. Maybe there is hope for my little plants after all. Didn't see a hummingbird but the butterflies where enjoying their breakfast at the flowers.

Thanks Norma, Marian and Michelle! Norma, There is nothing quite like the early morning light in the gardens. Like you I absolutely love it and even when I'm supposed to be doing something else sometimes I just have to grab my camera and record things when the light is right. ~~ The patio is stamped concrete. We waited a few years before being able to do it but are so happy we waited until the budget allowed. We love the color and texture of the patio also. Michelle, ROTFLOL, yes the patio is a lovely place to sit but I never seem to do it. I have all these benches all over the place that I almost never use. I LOVE to have company so I can sit and enjoy the space. ~~ That hydrangea is a standard Hydrangea paniculata 'Tardiva'. It has been in there for a very long time and is the highlight of the shade area this time of the year. That phlox I've photographed it against is my favorite 'Nora Leigh'. Deanne

Oh, thank you, Sandy, for the ID. I will label him properly. Won't he be a beautiful butterfly! I 'think' this is what the little cats are eating: Veronica repens Sunshine Golden Creeping Speedwell I didn't purchase it so I'm guessing. A local garden center gave me some little pots they were throwing away and some still had growing medium in them, along with what appeared to be dead plants. This one was a Steppables or Walkables plant and it just began to grow. I stuck it down in the garden and it continued to grow. It makes such a bright spot of color as it creeps over the top of the soil. Information on-line says the Buckeye/Junonia coenia cats will also eat these plants that I have growing: cudweed Mexican Petunia Ruellia brittoniana cracker Russelia equisetiformis Butterfly Bush Buddleia davidii (says not as favored but will use as host) Mary

Thanks everyone and what a warm day it turned out yesterday after all that fog it got to 31degs. I love the damp foggy mornings also not that we get many here. Dee the garden is just about finished now though I did make a new bed for my Gerbera a few weeks back and I am thinking of another Rose bed but no more roses just giving them more space. We got 1200 used pavers given to us on Tuesday ( exchanged for hard yakka ) so I can see a few new raised beds getting made for extra vegies.. Hi Macbirch...I have a lot of Gerbera's now and those doubles are so beautiful and last a long time in the vase. Marion do you get Misty morning's like this..How is that packing going... Dear Rosalie::: No I have not mastered it yet..though I am trying hard between library books and video's and all those camera forums on the Internet...Today being a special day for me we are going into the big smoke to my favourite toy shop and Tony is going to buy me either another memory card two big ones are not enough for me or maybe a filter ??? Then there is that book shop, O decisions decisions but I will come back with something. Sorry I dont know the name of the Plumbago as I found it in a pile of rubbish when we bought this block it is not a really bright blue......Cheers...MM.

Wannab, as one nurse to another, so sad to see you have to go. My walk this morning was lovely. Here in North Florida (and probably not far from you), things are really starting to look alive. Roses, gingers, clematis, passionflowers, etc. are all blooming. I went and sat by the pond and listened to the waterfall. I looked around at all the green and the flowers. I caught the scent of the jasmine in the air. Ahhhhh, life is good.

My Saturday morning stroll was wonderful - I enjoy the flowers around my deck and parking area everyday but don't walk down to what I call "the bottom garden" everyday so Sat. was special - a beautiful day to be in God's world - thyme was covered with blooms, running rose getting ready to bloom, a great new variety of lavender blooming its heart out, feverfew sporting a few blooms, yarrow etc. - birds singing- I sat in the swing with a cup of coffee and just enjoyed!!
