? About New Memory Card for My Camera

My daughter is getting married Sun. and I bought a new 2G card for my camera (don't have time to delete stuff off the other card). Do I need to do anything to this new card..other than pop it in the camera?

Yep, all I do is pop it in and go but let me warn you, I have an Olympus camera that will not take anything larger than a 512mb card so make certain *before* you get to the wedding that A) it is the correct type of card for your camera B) that your camera will accept the 2G size.

But over and above everything else, have a great time at the wedding (which of course would be difficult if your camera won't take pictures.)

I have never liked pulling the card in and out compared to hooking my camera up USB, but now am doing such as I was having trouble DL'ing my camera software into my new XP computer. I have had that happen to me too to where I bought a new card etc. After use in my computer, when I turned my camera on after inserting the card, it would show No pictures or something to where I could not shoot until I fiddled around with it. So far, I am having luck as I slowly put it in and out, holding my breath hoping. I also found trouble occurred when thinking I had to use that Safely Remove Hardware from the taskbar which I don't do now. Elaine if HP do not have updated drivers to cure this try phoning the store where you bought the 2 gig Kingston card and seek advice. Perhaps something as simple as an external card reader might cure the problem. I seem to remember you live in Mississauga, if so Canada Computes at Eglinton and Cawthra have a selection of readers for $10. Don't expect too much advice from them though. Good prices but not too helpful with questions. Off to check out my wife's 2 gig memory stick duo now, you have got me thinking.........

I really hate to try anything like that because it's not my camera....I'd hate it to ruin the camera too. I am going to leave well enough alone at this point! LOL.....My luck I'll end up buying her a new camera too! I just bought her a new card. She said not to, but I feel like it was I was the last person to touch the card, I should replace it. I was just happy to be able to recover her pictures she had in there. She keeps pictures in her camera forever and there was some as far back as Feb. in there. A lot of them were of Austin, his birthday party, Easter, etc. She doesn't have a cd burner on her computer so she can only save them on her camera or on the computer. I told her neither one are for safe keeping and she need to have them put onto cd's before she loses them all. Then this happens while was looking at her pictures! LOL...I am so happy to have recovered them for her, I was so afraid I lost them. There were a few of the last few days that I couldn't recover, but she said they are no big deal. She hasn't had the card out of the camera in a year because she uses the cables to transfer them to her computer. First time out and I'm the one who took it out...and it screws up! It figures!

You might take a picture or two right away to make sure the card is functional. You can always delete them. I've never had a problem with camera cards, but the people at DPReview warn about stuff like this.

Yep, put it in and test it out. Then you're ready!

Check your manual for the setting.... you should format it in the camera.

You should have no problems with taking pictures.... but you may have issues uploading them to your computer. My computer can't read my new larger card (says it isn't formatted, although it was). The machine at Walmart had no problem though. I'd take a couple pictures beforehand to make sure the card will work somewhere.

You may consider writing your name and some kind of contact info on a plain paper, and taking a picture of that as the first picture. If your card is lost or misplaced, the finder can return it. I learned this too late....

I've done exactly as PammieSue suggests. I took a photo of my business card, and then locked the file so it could not be mistakenly deleted. Just know that if you reformat the card, all will be lost, including locked pictures so keep a copy of the image on your hard drive so you can copy (drag) it back to your memory card when needed.
